Petrified Root are a very sought after reagent in the Midnight Expansion. They are used in a large variety of Midnight Profession recipes including Gems, Feasts and Enchants. This means that you will find yourself needing quite a few Petrified Roots if you are working on your Professions, especially if you are doing Enchanting or Jewelcrafting.
Petrified Roots are dropped exclusively from doing Prey and Delve content. Petrified Root can also be bought and sold on the Auction House, or traded with other players.
Note: Unfortunately, they are not a guaranteed drop, which means they are slightly harder to farm than most other Profession materials. This also means that they will likely be more expensive to purchase from the AH, especially at the start of the expansion.
How to Obtain Petrified Root in Prey
Petrified Root are a rare drop from the cache after completing a Prey event.
The higher difficulty the Prey is, the larger the chance to contain a Petrified Root. Because of this, when trying to farm Petrified Root through Prey, we recommend doing the highest difficulty Prey that you have access to to improve your chances of them dropping.
How to Obtain Petrified Root in Delves
Petrified Root can be obtained in the Cache at the end of Delves. The higher the Delve level, the more Petrified Roots you will receive. During testing, in tier 8 delves we received between 1-4 Petrified Root.It seems that to have a chance at receiving a Petrified Root you need to be doing Tier 4 or Higher Delves, although even at this level they seem pretty rare.
If you want to more efficiently farm Petrified Roots via Delves, then the specific delve we recommend doing is the Collegiate Calamity, as it is by far the easiest delve to complete at higher levels. This is because in all three versions you are assisted by NPCs that will defeat the bosses fairly quickly.
With Petrified Root being such a crucial component in a lot of Midnight recipes, it may be worth farming them. Likewise, if you’re looking for a potential gold making opportunity then this might be a good material to try.
