Introduction

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Altar of Fangs dungeon guide for Season 2 of Midnight! In this guide I’ll be going over the abilities of all the trash mobs and bosses throughout the dungeon, as well as how I recommend you handle them. I’ll be focusing on the mythic and M+ versions of the dungeon, but most of this article will apply to both normal and heroic difficulties as well. I’ll also be including my recommended, PUG friendly route via the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon for anyone interested.

Some background on myself, my name is Tactyks and I am an avid M+ player, achieving the 0.1% M+ title numerous times on 5 different specs, as well as competing in The Great Push in season 4 of Shadowlands. I also create M+, Raid, and tank guide content on my YouTube and Twitch channels, so be sure to stop by and say hi!

Video Guide

Rav’i Trash

To start the dungeon there are 6 Caustic Mist Totems spread around the initial area that players must interact with to destroy, opening up the path to the first boss. Guarding these totems are several different mobs:

Venom Leech

  • Beware these mobs heal on their melee swings thanks to the Gorge passive
  • Avoid the circles created by Septic Spatter on death

Twinfang Harrower

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Paralyzing Shots debuffs two random players, use magic dispels or freedom effects to remove it
  • Tanks beware of the high melee swing damage due to Duostrike
  • Make sure to face this mob away from your group to make it easier to dodge the Toxic Breath sweeping frontal

Ravenous Descendant

  • Tanks beware of the stacking Ravenous enrage and use soothes or CCs to reset them

Primal Serpent

  • Make sure to interrupt every cast of Piercing Hiss
  • Fetid Spit targets random players, beware of this additional damage

Ritual Chieftain

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • In the initial area of the dungeon beware of the constant pulsing damage from the Caustic Mist Totem due to the Unstable Totem passive
  • Healers be ready for the Blood Sacrifice AoE hit and healing absorb
  • Dismember targets the tank, use a defensive if needed

Rav'i Boss Fight

Make sure players are topped for the Ravenous Stomp hit, and tanks should watch for which Bone Pile does not have a Twinfang corpse land on it and move the boss towards it before Ssscavenging is cast to avoid a Feeding Frenzy.

During Ssscavenging, make sure to get into all the Messy Eater soaks that spawn and pool damage to break the shield quickly to make this phase easier to heal.

Loosely spread to avoid cleaving allies with Triple Shot, and use defensives if this overlaps with other damage.

Regurgitate shoots waves towards a random player, make sure to avoid these and use a disease dispel if someone gets hit.

Tanks beware of high melee damage output on this fight due to Hydrastrike.

The Writhing Coil Trash

High Evolutionist

  • Envenom targets a random player, interrupt as many casts as possible and use Poison dispels to remove any DoTs
  • Use a CC to stop the Evolve channel, which turns Envenom into Mass Envenom

Rattling Writhe

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Corrosive Fangs targets the tank, use defensives as needed
  • Healers make sure you are prepared for the channeled AoE damage from Rattle

Bloodletter

  • Avoid the puddles these mobs create on their melees due to the Bloodletting passive

Hatchling

  • These mobs hatch from eggs on being stepped on or pulling certain packs
  • Use CCs and slows to lock them down, as they just fixate random players with Nascent Hunger

The Writhing Coil Boss Fight

Healers beware of the consistent ticking damage Synchronized Venom does for most of the encounter.

Toxic Atrophy is cast three times back-to-back, make sure to interrupt every cast.

Vindictive Onslaught does a combo towards a random player, step out of the Burrowing Charge line attack and try to point the Venom Jet frontal away from your group before moving out of that as well.

Tail Scythe targets the tank, though this is not particularly dangerous.

When Death Rattle is cast, all players should use movement abilities to snap their tethers as quickly as possible and stop the heavy AoE damage. This spawns 5 Uncoiled Writhes that fixate random players and mirror damage to the boss, so stack them up, use CCs to lock them down, and use damage cooldowns here.

Three of the Uncoiled Writhes will cast Toxic Atrophy, so be ready to interrupt or use a CC to delay the cast if needed. After 25s they recoil in the centre of the room, forming Undermining shockwave lines that players should avoid.

Zul’jan Trash and Unfinished Mixture Buff

Immediately after the 2nd boss room another wall of poison mist will block your path, where this time you must destroy the 4 Infusion Totems to free the Ascendant Serpent mini boss and then defeat it.

Also in the corner of this room is an Unfinished Mixture, which players that have at least 25 skill in Midnight Cooking or Alchemy can interact with to give their group the Mutating Elixir buff for the remainder of the dungeon, which is definitely worth grabbing.

Ascendant Serpent

  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Loosely spread to avoid cleaving allies with Infest, then group to allow for easier cleave on the Hatchlings that spawn
  • Avoid the tornadoes created by Virulent Whirl
  • Tanks point the Noxious Spray frontal away from your group and use a defensive while fighting the pushback

Blade of the Altar

  • Laced Edge targets a random player, beware of this extra damage intake

Ula'tek's Chosen

  • Make sure to interrupt every cast of Mass Envenom
  • Avoid the line attacks during Toxic Surge and healers be ready for the pulsing damage this channel does

Living Venom

  • These mobs explode in a Venom Burst on death, make sure to stagger kill these mobs to give your healer time to top players between hits

Zul’jan Boss Fight

Be ready to soak all 4 beams that shoot towards the boss during Ritual Of The Fang, using healing cooldowns if needed for this moderate damage.

You need to clear your stacks of Ritual Venom before they expire, which can be done by taking physical damage thanks to Bloodletting, just beware it also drops a puddle nearby for 30s.

I recommend standing in one of the two casts of Boneslicer, which will clear up to 8 stacks from the initial hit and 7s DoT it applies.

Tanks use a defensive on the Chop Down combo, and beware this will also drop puddles if you still have stacks of Ritual Venom,

Otherwise just make sure to avoid the 3 spinning axes that Axegrinder creates which bounce around the room.
