Midnight Alchemy Profession Guide: Leveling, Changes and Knowledge Builds

Midnight Alchemy Profession Guide: Leveling, Changes and Knowledge Builds

Written by Roguery - 26th February 2026

Alchemy in Midnight is receiving a large amount of changes, while the basics of the profession remains the same. In this guide we go over the changes to Alchemy, how to level your Midnight Alchemy, and a recommended starter build.

New to Alchemy in Midnight

Alchemy is receiving a fair few changes, making the profession much more approachable especially in the early game.

Only Two Ranks of Materials

Materials and consumables used and crafted by Alchemists in the Midnight Expansion will only come in two ranks, as opposed to three in recent expansions.

No More Experimentation

Gone are the days where you would need to experiment every few hours to learn new recipes. The trainer will still only offer a few recipes, but now we will turn directly to the cauldron of the alchemy trainer to buy recipes beyond level 15 Midnight Alchemy.

The recipes offered by Camberon’s Cauldron have requirements and cost materials to purchase. For example, to purchase the Transmute: Mote of Light recipe you will need to fulfill the prerequisite and already have performed 5 Midnight Transmutations. Then you can purchase the recipe for three Stabilized Derivate and 25 Artisan Alchemist's Moxie.

Higher quality recipes are either found in the knowledge trees or purchased from vendors around Midnight zones.

Recycling

In Midnight you will be able to convert Flasks and Potions into Stabilized Derivate. This material is used in a lot of recipes and required to purchase new recipes from Camberon’s Cauldron.

Decor and Lumber

At level 80 Midnight Alchemy you will learn several decor recipes for housing. The recipes are expensive to craft and we have not recommended crafting them as part of our leveling guides. However if you know you want to make them for your own house, or to sell on the AH, remember to gather lumber as you level your character.

Moxie

As you gain knowledge you will also be gaining Moxie, which is the currency in Midnight for which you buy new recipes. Unlike Artisan's Acuity in the War Within, Moxie is gathered separately for each profession, and you can’t use currency gained from one profession to “feed” into recipes for another profession. Moxie is also not used for recrafting gear, or crafting profession gear; just purely for buying from vendors.

Epic Profession Equipment

All professions will now have access to epic quality profession equipment. The uncommon green gear can still be bought and sold on the AH, while the rare and epic gear is Bind on Pickup and has to be ordered through the work order system. None of these crafts require Moxie.

Alchemy Trainer Location

The Midnight Alchemy Trainer Camberon is located in the Bazaar on the east side a little south of the bridge to Isle of Quel’danas.

Leveling Midnight Alchemy

Leveling Alchemy will be a little different than other professions. Depending on what you want to do, the recipes that you have available will be different. We have given the required materials to get to level 50. We then suggest selecting one of the recommended builds below and crafting items learned from placing knowledge points there.

Profession Equipment

Before starting to level your profession, you may want to pick up some profession equipment. You can purchase cheap green equipment from the auction house, although availability early on in the expansion may be lower.

The Hobbyist Alchemist's Mixing Rod, Chemist's Cap and Bright Linen Alchemy Apron are all great to start with.

When you upgrade to blue and epic quality we recommend starting with the Mixing Rod, and then whichever you prefer, as the other two items have the same stats.

1 - 35 Camberon’s Cauldron Training

When you first pick up Alchemy, you will only have access to three recipes: Silvermoon Health Potion, Recycle Potions and Recycle Flasks.

Craft 2 Silvermoon Health Potion, and use it as materials for the Recycle Potions Recipe. You should be able to cast it three times. You will receive 3 - 6 Stabilized Derivate, then learn more recipes from Cambreon.

Return to Camberon and learn new recipes whenever you don’t know the next recipe in the list below. Craft:

At this point craft Enlightenment Tonic until level 35 when it goes gray.

35 - 50 Transmutation

Craft Silvermoon Health Potion until level 47.

Be aware that this is a green recipe and could take a lot of materials, but you can turn the Health potions into Stabilized Derivate, so it's not necessarily a waste.

We then recommend unlocking your first specialization, choosing Transmutation Authority, and placing 5 points in the main wheel, which unlocks a sub-specialization. Select the center option, Synthesis Synergy. This unlocks the Wondrous Synergist craft daily cooldown, and crafting this once will let you hit 50 and select a second specialization.

50 - 100 Choices

At this point, which recipes you have available will depend on how you specialize. We have a few suggestions below.

Suggested Alchemy Builds

If you followed the guide above, then your first specialisation was Transmutation Authority and you have spent 5 knowledge in that tree. Once you have 50 Skill in Alchemy you will gain access to a second specialization.

Transmutation Build

The Transmutation build turns resources from one thing into another. While we can’t say if the transmute recipes will be worthwhile, we do know the Wondrous Synergist material will likely be highly sought after, for both crafting Cauldrons for raiding and for many Decor Recipes.

For this build your second specialization choice should be Alchemical Mastery for the +5 skill.

We recommend placing 20 points in Synthesis Synergy in the Transmutation Authority Tree.

After this place 5 more points in the main Transmutation wheel, to unlock a second sub-specialization, and pick Metamorphic Mastery, which gives you a lot of Multicraft for your four Wondorus Synergist Crafts.

Finally place 10 points in the Alchemical Mastery tree, to unlock a sub-specialization. Choose Reduce for more Resourcefulness, and fill this wheel out.

Beyond this point, place your points as you like.

Potion Prowess Build

Potions in Midnight are split into two categories, Light and Void. If you want to specialise in crafting these, we recommend focusing first on the Light Potions as the recipes and materials are much easier to obtain. However, it could be worth waiting to see if certain recipes are more valuable once raids open.

We suggest opening the Potion Prowess tree at 50 skill, then placing 20 points in the main wheel. This unlocks two recipes, Void-Shrouded Tincture on the Void Side and Light's Potential on the Light Side.

Place 10 Points in the Path of Light Tree to unlock one of its sub-specializations, and choose, Prolific Potioneer - Light. Filling this wheel out will give you a bunch of Multicraft for these potions.

Once you reach 60 skill, open the Alchemical Mastery Tree, and place 10 points in the main wheel to unlock a sub-specialization. Opt for the bottom tree, Reuse, to gain resourcefulness while crafting potions.

From here place points to buff the potion you want to make. If you want to start buffing void potions, start filling out Path of the Void to unlock Prolific Potioneer - Void. This will buff the amount and quality that you make.

Beyond this point, place your points as you like.

Fluent in Flasks Build

Similar to potions, Flasks come in two varieties: Thallasian and Haranir. Haranir flasks are focused on professions and buffing them, which people might be looking for early in the expansion. Thallasian Flasks buff you in combat, but might not be used much until raids and mythic+ open. With this in mind we suspect going for Haranir will be a good choice if you are leveling up around Midnight launch.

At 50 unlock Fluent in Flasks, and spend 20 points to unlock both sub-specializations. This will teach you 2 Flask Recipes and allow you to diversify into Thallasian if you want to.

Then place 10 points in Haranir Secrets to unlock a sub-specialization, and choose Phial Abundance. Fill that up with 20 points, which increases multicraft.

At level 60 Midnight Alchemy, pick the Alchemical mastery specialization and place 10 points on that wheel to unlock a sub-specialization. Choose Recycle, and spend 20 points inside to increase your resourcefulness when crafting flasks and phials.

From here you can continue to invest knowledge points in crafting Haranir Phials, or switch to Thallasian to start preparing for the raiding and mythic+ to start.

Beyond this point, spend your points as you prefer.

Where to obtain Knowledge Points

You earn a knowledge point every time you craft a new recipe. In addition you can earn knowledge points weekly from several sources which we have in the table below.

Knowledge Source Knowledge Points
Weekly Quest 2
Patron Crafting Orders 16
Repeatable Treasures and Drops 2
Thalassian Treatise on Inscription 1

Profession Treasures

There are a total of 8 profession treasures scattered around Midnight Zones, which award a one time only 3 knowledge points each. We have a full guide with their locations in our Midnight Profession Treasures Location Guide.

Reputation Profession Knowledge

Once you reach renown 9 with Singularity in the Voidstorm, you can buy 10 Alchemy Knowledge from Void Researcher Anomander for 75 Artisan’s Alchemist’s Moxie and 750 Voidlight Marl.

Darkmoon Faire

When Darkmoon Faire is active, you can gain 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points by completing a short quest from Sayge Called Writing the Future.

We recommend leaving this as late as possible to get the most value out of the increased skill points.

Best Race for the Alchemy Profession

While all races are perfectly fine for Alchemy, a few have some bonuses which give a minor impact:

  • Goblin - Their Better Living Through Chemistry increases Alchemy skill by 5.
  • Kul Tiran - Have Jack of All Trades which increases all profession skills by 2.

Best Professions to Pair with Alchemy

We recommend pairing Alchemy with Herbalism to collect your own resources, or perhaps Inscription as it uses the same resources.

We hope this Alchemy Profession leveling guide helped you get started with this crafting profession. For more Midnight content you can check out all of our Midnight Guides.
