All Profession Knowledge Point Sources in Midnight

All Profession Knowledge Point Sources in Midnight

Written by Roguery - 7th April 2026

Earning Profession Knowledge Points is a long process, as filling out all of the trees for a profession will take several months. In this guide we go over all of the sources of profession knowledge and where you can obtain them.

Knowledge Points can’t be refunded once you have spent them in a Profession Talent Tree, so make sure you spend them wisely.

We will first go through the knowledge you can get only once, and then go through the stuff you can do every reset.

Profession Knowledge Point Sources:

One Time Profession Knowledge Points

In this section we cover sources of profession knowledge points that you can only gain once. Once you have obtained them all, you can only get more knowledge from the repeatable sources.

Unique Profession Treasures

Unique Profession Treasures rewards 3 knowledge points each; there are a total of 8 for each profession, giving 24 Profession Knowledge Points total for each Profession. We show you the locations for them all in our Midnight Profession Knowledge Treasures guide.

Renown Rewards

One of the 4 main Renown factions in the Midnight expansion will sell you a knowledge book that grants 10 knowledge points. To be able to buy it you first need to raise your renown to a certain level. The books cost 750 Voidlight Marl and 75 Artisan's Moxie for the respective profession and can be bought only once.

First Time Gathering

Everytime you gather a new node for the first time with a gathering profession, you will earn a knowledge point. This only applies to Herbalism and Mining.

First Time Craft

Whenever you craft each recipe for the first time with a crafting profession, you will gain 1 knowledge point.

Repeatable Profession Knowledge Point Sources

In this section we cover all Profession Knowledge Point sources that are repeatable every reset, as well as limited time knowledge points from the monthly Darkmoon Faire event.

Most of these sources have no catch up mechanic, so the weeks you have missed gaining knowledge points will continue to be missed. The only exception is the weekly gathering knowledge, which has a catch up mechanic for the four gathering professions (Herbalism, Mining, Skinning and Enchanting).

Weekly Profession Quests

Every profession has a Weekly Profession Quest that you can start from your respective profession trainer in Silvermoon City.

In order to do this quest you will first need to get the profession to level 25, and complete an introduction quest from Captain Flaresworn (found in Silvermoon City, near the Work Order NPC).

For gatherers the quest objective is to hand in materials and for crafters you will need to complete work orders. The quest will reward between 1 and 4 Profession Knowledge Points depending on the profession.

Thalassian Treatise

Every profession can use a Thalassian Treatise once per week, which grants 1 knowledge point. The Treatises are crafted by players with the Inscription profession and are warbound, which means if you don’t have a character with Inscription, you need to order them through the work order system.

Weekly Crafting Profession Points from Treasures

If you have a crafting profession you can open regular treasures, in any of the Midnight zones, and get items that when used grant profession knowledge points. Each profession knowledge item will only drop once per week.

Below is a table that shows all of the knowledge point items for each profession. The chat command provided for each can be used to see if you have looted it already this week.

Weekly Gathering Profession Knowledge

Gathering Knowledge is randomly earned from just gathering materials from nodes around the Midnight Zones (or from disenchanting for Enchanters). The table below shows the items you will receive depending on the profession.

Item Profession Weekly Amount
Igneous Rock Specimen Mining 5
Septarian Nodule Mining 1
Thalassian Phoenix Plume Herbalism 5
Thalassian Phoenix Tail Herbalism 1
Fine Void-Tempered Hide / Manafused Sample Skinning 5
Mana-Infused Bone Skinning 1
Swirling Arcane Essence Enchanting 5
Brimming Mana Shard Enchanting 1

You will always receive the epic version last, once you have received all the +1 items. The epic item indicates that you are “done for the week”.

If you are behind on knowledge from previous weeks, you can keep gathering and start receiving items to catch up on the missed knowledge points. The catch up items work the same way as the items listed above and grant knowledge points when used. When you stop receiving them you can assume you have caught up.

Patron Crafting Orders

Patron orders is the main weekly source of knowledge points for crafting professions. How many knowledge points there are to get varies somewhere between 16 and 24 in total. All you need to do is check in at the crafting table a few times a week and see which orders award knowledge points, and then complete those.

Most of the patron orders will need you to use some of your own materials, and some of the patron orders can be incredibly expensive to complete. In those cases it is your choice how much you are willing to spend for 1 or 2 knowledge points. Unfortunately, the orders can also be for recipes you haven’t unlocked.

Darkmoon Faire Profession Knowledge Point Quests

Darkmoon Faire happens on the first Sunday of every month and runs for a week. When you visit the Darkmoon Faire you can find a profession quest for each profession, which rewards 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points. You can only complete this quest once per Darkmoon Faire event each month.

Some of the quests require you to bring materials from outside the faire, all of which you can buy from the Auction House or from vendors.

The materials you need to bring to the Faire are:

  • Alchemy: 5 Moonberry Juice
  • Inscription: 5 Light Parchment
  • Leatherworking: 10 Shiny Bauble, 5 Coarse Thread, 5 Blue Dye
  • Tailoring: 1 Course Thread, 1 Red Dye, 1 Blue Dye
