Herbalism in Midnight is very much resembling Herbalism in The War Within. In this guide we have covered the few changes, given tips on leveling, suggested a knowledge build, and provided a farming route to help level your Herbalism profession.
Midnight Herbs
These are the names of all the new herbs that can be gathered in Midnight:
There is a node for all of them except for Nocturnal Lotus, which is rarely obtained when herbing other nodes.
Location of the Midnight Herbalism Trainer
The Herbalism trainer is Botanist Nathera, who is located in the Bazaar area in Silvermoon City. You will be sent to the city as one of the first quests of the campaign.

New to Herbalism in Midnight
All Herbs in All Zones - All herbs can now be gathered in all Midnight zones, unlike recent expansions when you had to change zones to find specific herbs.
Sky Golem No More - In Midnight Blizzard seemed to have nerfed the Sky Golem as it no longer seems to function with any of the Midnight herb nodes.
Only Two Ranks - Herbs gathered by Herbalists in the Midnight Expansion will only come in two ranks, as opposed to three in recent expansions.
Epic Profession Equipment - All professions will now have access to epic quality profession equipment. The uncommon green gear can still be bought and sold on the AH, while the rare and epic gear is Bind on Pickup and has to be ordered through the work order system.
New Herbs Modifiers
Similar to herbs in recent expansions, the herb-nodes in Midnight are sometimes modified. In Midnight the modifiers are tied to elements, and each type of modifier will always grant motes of the element it’s tied to. As such Lightfuse herbs will always drop Mote of Light. You can always spot a herb node with a modifier on your mini-map as it has a special icon.
Each type of node can only be found in specific zones or areas. The table below shows which nodes can be farmed where and which type of element drops.
| Herb Modifier | Mote Type | Zone |
| Lightfused | Mote Of Light | Eversong Woods and light areas |
| Wild | Mote Of Wild Magic | Zul’Aman |
| Primal | Mote Of Primal Energy | Harandar |
| Voidbound | Mote Of Pure Void | Voidstorm and void areas |
Lightfused
When you collect a Lightfused herb several orbs will spawn around it. Catching them will grant you additional Motes of Light.
Overloading these nodes spawns a large amount of light-orbs in the air, which grant Motes of Light if you catch them before they hit the ground.
Wild
When you collect a Wild herb you will spawn hostile Vengeful Lashers, which can be defeated and gathered for additional resources.
If you overload this node you will be attacked by an Elite cat, Avatar of Halazzi, who has a stun and a nasty bleed. Defeating the avatar will grant the buff Wild Perception for 5 minutes increasing your Perception by 150.
Primal
When you gather Primal herbs you receive a debuff which slows you, and deals a minor amount of damage over time. Druid shapeshift removes this debuff.
Overloading this node will summon green orbs on the ground. Run into these to receive additional Mote Of Primal Energy.
Voidbound
When you gather Voidbound herbs a void portal will appear and start to pull you in. The portal does no damage, and nothing happens if you get pulled to its center; it’s just an annoyance when you are trying to fly to the next node.
Overloading this node summons orbs on the ground which grant reagents (random herbs and Voidbound motes) when you run through them. A portal also spawns, which when clicked on sends you to another modified node.
We don’t recommend overloading these nodes until you have the Voidbound sub-specialisation (which grants a portal back again), as you can be sent deep into caves or even into other zones, without an easy way back.
Lush
In addition to the modified nodes above, you will also have the usual Lush nodes which grant additional resources.
Before Starting Herbalism
If you are starting Herbalism at the beginning of the Midnight expansion you will not have much of an opportunity to purchase anything. However, if you are starting later there might be a couple of things to get before you start.
Equipment
Before starting to herb, you may want to pick up some profession equipment, since the increase to skill will let you start gathering higher quality materials much earlier. You can purchase cheap green equipment from the auction house, although availability early on in the expansion may be lower.
The Thalassian Sickle, Eversong Botanist's Satchel and Bright Linen Herbalism Hat should be great to get you started.
When you upgrade to blue and epic quality, we recommend upgrading the Sickle, then the Satchel and finally the Hat.
Tea
Teas are a new type of crafted food made with the Cooking profession. There are a total of 3 teas which buff gathering professions, and which you can either buy on the AH or make yourself:
| Tea | Stat |
| Azeroot Tea | Deftness |
| Sanguithorn Tea | Perception |
| Argentleaf Tea | Finesse |
We recommend using either the Sanguithorn Tea or the Argentleaf Tea. Whichever you have the mats to craft or is cheapest on the auction house.
Leveling Midnight Herbalism
To level Herbalism, you just need to keep herbing. However, some nodes will stop giving you levels once you reach a certain skill level. The table breaks down at what Herbalism level each node will go Yellow, Green and finally Gray.
| Herb | Yellow | Green | Gray |
| Tranquility Bloom | 20 | 25 | 30 |
| Mana Lily / Argentleaf / Azeroot / Sanguithorn | 30 | 45 | 60 |
| Lush Tranquility Bloom | 60 | 80 | 100 |
| Lush Mana Lily / Argentleaf / Azeroot / Sanguithorn | 60 | 80 | 100 |
| Modified Tranquility Bloom | 60 | 80 | 100 |
| Modified Mana Lily / Argentleaf / Azeroot / Sanguithorn | 60 | 80 | 100 |
We don’t recommend ignoring nodes that don’t give skill ups, however, you should prioritize the nodes that give skill ups.
Midnight Herbalism Farming Route
This is a farming route we found efficient for finding herbs in Eversong Woods during testing for Midnight.

Best Herbalism Knowledge Build
Now that the Sky Golem can’t be used to herb while mounted anymore, which appears to not be a bug but an intentional nerf; you can now only pick herbs whilst mounted on the Sky Golem in older expansions up until Dragonflight, which was when the profession trees were introduced. So from Dragonflight on, it appears the intent is that Sky Golem should not circumvent the need to place points to be able to herb while mounted. However, it could also be a bug, or something that is reverted once Midnight goes live.
Despite that, Herbalism Knowledge choices in Midnight are pretty clear cut, as herbalists can still use druids flight form to herb while mounted. This means the value of Botany’s 40 point node, which gives access to herbing while mounted, still has a lower value compared to the same node for miners.
We recommend picking Midnight Overload as your first specialization, to get a shorter cooldown on the Overload Infused Herb ability. Overloading on cooldown will result in the most amount of resources while you are leveling the profession. Don’t spend any points here, instead hold the points until you open your second specialization.
Once you reach level 50 you can pick your second specialization. Choose Botany, and place 10 points in the main wheel to unlock a sub-specialization. Pick the left option, Mulching, and place 20 points to unlock Imbued Mulch. Imbued Mulch turns 10 Tranquility Bloom into an Imbued Mulch consumable, with a 1 hour cooldown. Use these consumables on cooldown to make the next herb you pick always contain a Nocturnal Lotus.
Once you have reached 75 Midnight Herbalism you unlock the final tree, Bountiful Harvest, if you want to access mounted herbalism at this point as you are not a druid and the Sky Golem Change is intended, do it now. Max out the main wheel, and then go into the sub-specializations.
Beyond this point, place your points as you like.
Where to obtain Knowledge Points
Similar to other expansions, you earn 1 knowledge point every time you gather a new herb you have previously not gathered. As there are 5 different gatherable herbs, and each one has 6 variants (normal, lush, and 4 modified), you will earn 30 knowledge points by collecting every type of herb.
Profession Treasures
There are a total of 8 profession treasures scattered around Midnight Zones, which award a one time only 3 knowledge points each. We have a full guide with their locations in our Midnight Profession Treasures Location Guide.
Faction Profession Knowledge
Once you reach renown 6 with Hara’ti in Harandar, you can buy 10 Herbalism Knowledge from Naynar for 75 Artisan’s Herbalist's Moxie and 750 Voidlight Marl.
Abundance Knowledge
You can buy 10 Herbalism Knowledge from Chel the Chip for 1600 Unalloyed Abundance and 75 Artisan’s Herbalist’s Moxie. Unalloyed Abundance is a currency earned from doing weekly Abundance events around Midnight zones, and Chel the Chip is a vendor at the Abundance locations.
Weekly Knowledge
In addition, you can earn knowledge points weekly from several sources which we have in the table below.
| Knowledge Source | Knowledge Points |
| Weekly Quest | 3 |
| Drops from Gathering | 9 |
| Thalassian Treatise on Herbalism | 1 |
Darkmoon Faire
When Darkmoon Faire is active you can gain 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points by doing a short quest from Chronos, called Herbs for Healing.
We recommend leaving this as late as possible to get the most value out of the increased skill points.
Best Professions to Pair with Herbalism
We recommend pairing Herbalism either with a profession that can take advantage of the resources:
- Alchemy
- Inscription
Or you can choose a second gathering profession:
- Mining
- Skinning
Best Race for the Herbalism Profession
While all races are perfectly fine for Herbalism, a few have some bonuses that will have a minor impact.
- Tauren - Their Cultivation passive grants 5 additional skill to Herbalism and 25% increase to deftness, letting you collect herbs more quickly.
- Dracthyr - Their Discerning Eye grants 2 % Perception, which increases the amount of rare resources you receive from Herbalism.
- Earthen - Their Hyper Productive grants 2 % Finesse, which increases the amount of resources you receive from Herbalism.
- Haranir - Their One With Nature increases Herbalism skill by 5 and Finesse by a small amount.
- Kul Tiran - Have Jack of All Trades which increases all profession skills by 2.
We hope this Herbalism Profession leveling guide helped you get started with this gathering profession. For more Midnight content you can check out all of our Midnight Guides.
