Midnight Tailoring Profession Guide: Leveling, Changes and Knowledge Builds

Midnight Tailoring Profession Guide: Leveling, Changes and Knowledge Builds

Written by Roguery - 26th February 2026

Tailoring is receiving few changes in Midnight and remaining very similar to The War Within, you will still be farming cloth, turning the cloth into bolts and finally into items.

In this guide we cover the few changes Tailoring has received, how to level your Midnight Tailoring, and recommended starter builds.

New to Tailoring in Midnight

Tailoring is getting a slight simplification in Midnight.

Only Two Ranks - Materials and consumables used and crafted by Tailors in the Midnight Expansion will only come in two ranks, as opposed to three in recent expansions.

No More Unraveling - Unraveling is no longer a thing. Instead of turning cloth into thread, and then back into cloth bolts, you will now just turn cloth into cloth bolts.

Moxie - As you gain knowledge you will also be gaining Moxie; which is the currency in Midnight for which you buy new recipes. Unlike Artisan's Acuity in the War Within, Moxie is now gathered separately for each profession, and you can’t use currency gained from one profession to “feed” into recipes for another profession. Moxie is also not used for recrafting gear, or crafting profession gear; just purely for buying from vendors.

Epic Profession Equipment - All professions will now have access to epic quality profession equipment. The uncommon green gear can still be bought and sold on the AH, while the rare and epic gear is Bind on Pickup and has to be ordered through the work order system. None of these crafts require Moxie.

Midnight Tailoring Profession Location

The tailoring trainer is Galana, who can be found in the East part of the Bazaar in Silvermoon City, a little north of Murder Row.

Midnight Materials Overview

Cloth and Bolts farmed or crafted by Tailors in Midnight.

Other Materials frequently used by Tailors.

Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk

In Midnight there are two special types of cloth, Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk, which can drop from mobs, but only if you have placed 20 points in the Nimble Needlework knowledge tree. We recommend you level to 25 Tailoring and open these options as fast as possible, preferably while still leveling up your character, so you start getting drops of all types of cloth sooner rather than later.

Leveling Midnight Tailoring

Here we cover how to level your Tailoring to max, with a focus on gaining knowledge while spending as little gold and resources as possible. The first levels will be easy to gain but once you hit 50 things become much more difficult.

Profession Equipment

Before starting to level your profession, you may want to pick up some profession equipment. You can purchase cheap green equipment from the auction house, although availability early on in the expansion may be lower.

The Farstrider Fabric Cutters, Thalassian Needle Set and Bright Linen Tailoring Robe are all great to start with. The robe you will be crafting yourself if you follow the guide below.

When you upgrade to blue and epic quality we recommend starting with the Fabric Cutters, then the Needle Set, and finally the Robe.

List of Materials Required

If you follow the guide below you will be using the following materials to get to level 60 Tailoring.

The number of bolts you need to craft in total are:

1 - 25 Bright Linen Bolt

Start by crafting:

You are going to need a lot of Bright Linen Bolt, and the recipe will go yellow at 15 and green at 20.

Return to the trainer and learn new recipes, then craft the following:

Then keep crafting Bright Linen Bolt until the recipe goes gray. You will be using all these bolts and more as you continue leveling.

Level 25 - Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk

At level 25 tailoring, open Nimble Needlework and place 20 points in the main wheel to open both sub-specializations, and get both Arcanoweave and Sunfire Silk to drop from mobs.

25 - 40 Imbued Bright Linen

Craft in the following order, returning to the trainer whenever you don’t have a recipe:

At this point you should have reached level 40 Midnight Tailoring

40 - 60 Bright Linen Spellthread

From this point on, all new recipes you learn will require special materials, which you need to either specialise to farm yourself, or buy off the auction house. However you can get to 60 just using the base recipes.

First craft: 3 x Courtly Shoulders.

Then: Craft Bright Linen Spellthread until you reach level 60.

60 - 100

At this point you have access to 3 out of 4 specialisations, and now your levels will come from recipes you learn from the knowledge trees or from vendors. If you are unsure of where to put your points, check out our suggested builds below.

Starter Tailoring Knowledge Build

In Midnight we see three distinct starting builds, with a slight overlap between each. All three of these builds will take Nimble Needlework as their first specialization and spend 20 points in the main wheel, as mentioned in the leveling guide above.

We would also suggest placing 15 points in Arcanoweaving or Sunfire Bolt Weaving, or both, to open the Expertise subspecializations which grants a daily cooldown of making bolts. But you can start the builds below without this step and save it for a later point.

Cloth and Bolt Farmer Build

This build is aimed at getting skilled at farming cloth and making bolts first, and going into crafting things with the bolts at a later date. We think there should be a lot of profit from this build, especially since you have to spend 20 points in Nimble Needlework to get access to all types of cloth, and many tailors might have skipped that step, thus forcing them to buy the bolts on the auction house to level their Tailoring.

Unlock Fabric Specialist as your 2nd specialization and place 15 points in the main wheel to unlock a sub-specialization. Here you get a choice between which zones you want to increase cloth drops in, and you pick Eastern Kingdoms Cloth, because Eversong Forest and Zul’Aman have more easily farmed humanoids than the other two zones. Fill this wheel to get more high quality cloth drops in these zones. Then place 25 points to completely fill the Fabric Specialist main wheel.

Unlock the Fiber Arts specialization, which lets you pick a sub-specialization straight away. Pick Creative Efficiency and place 30 points here for multicraft.

At this point, completely fill the Nimble Needlework main wheel to increase the quality of bolts you are producing. Then select either bolt type and put 15 points in each, if you haven’t already, to open the Expertise sub-specializations and the daily bolt cooldown. Completely fill out the Expertise Wheels, then the wheels above.

Finally place 10 points in the Fiber Arts main wheel to unlock a 2:nd sub-spec, and choose Textile Utilization for resourcefulness.

At this point place your points as you like.

Cloth Gear Crafter Build

This build is focused on crafting cloth gear, and since end game players frequently use crafted bracers, belts, boots, and sometimes gloves; there should be opportunities to make some profit from work orders. We aren’t sure which crafted piece will be the most popular, but whichever order you unlock your recipes, they will never be useless, as you can still do patron orders.

To start, choose Sin’dorei Finery as your second specialisation and place 5 points in the main wheel to unlock a sub-specialization. We suggest picking Elegant Accessories and then placing 10 points here to unlock Bracers, which teaches you a new bracer recipe. This is because bracers are probably the most common crafted slot, meaning you are extra likely to see public work orders.

Then put another 10 points into Elegant Accessories to also get the Belt recipe. At this point you have two recipes to get patreon orders for, so now you can choose if you want to finish off Elegant Accessories and get the Shoulders, or place more points in the Sin’dorei Finery main wheel, to open other subspecializations.

Once you have a selection of recipes you are happy with, go into Fiber Arts and place 10 points to unlock 2 sub-specializations. Choose Textile Utilization for resourcefulness, and Fashion Genius to make it easier to concentrate on crafts, and get more concentration back when you do get ingenuity procs. At this point place your points as you like.

Sunfire / Arcanoweave Gear Build

This build is focused on crafting the Sunfire and Arcanoweave set items. These grant a large amount of crit or haste above 80% health and could be very powerful for some classes and specs. However it could also be that they are not at all popular, because they already have embellishments - and these things can change with hotfixes and patches. If the items are popular for any class or spec, this is likely not the gear route a lot of other tailors have gone, so there are possibilities for profit here. And if they aren’t popular with other players you will always get patron orders for the items.

To get this spec started, continue in the Nimble Needlework tree, and choose what side of the tree to go down first. Place 30 points in Sunfire Silk Weaving or Arcanoweaving to unlock equipment recipes. Then place 10 points into Sunfire/Arcanoweave Expertise to unlock the Bracers Recipe. At this point you can go down the other side of the tree, or save that for a bit later.

Pick Sin’dorei Finery as your second specialization. Place 5 points in the main wheel to unlock a sub-specialization, and pick Elegant Accessories to get more skill for crafting bracers, as bracers are probably the most common embellishment slot. At this point this build merges with the Cloth Gear build above. Keep putting points into the Sin’Dorei Finery tree to unlock other sub-specializations, and learn more recipes.
