Mining in Midnight is very much resembling Mining in The War Within. In this guide we have covered the few changes, given tips on leveling, suggested a knowledge build, and provided a few farming routes to help level your Mining profession.
Midnight Ore
These are the types of ore you can mine in Midnight:
There is a node for all of them except Dazzling Thorium, which is rarely obtained when mining other nodes.
Location of the Midnight Mining Trainer
The mining trainer is Belil, who is located in the Bazaar area in Silvermoon City. You will be sent to the city as one of the first quests of the campaign.

New to Mining in Midnight
All Ore in All Zones - All types of ore can now be gathered in all Midnight zones, unlike recent expansions when you had to change zones to find specific ore.
Only Two Ranks - Ore gathered by Miners in the Midnight Expansion will only come in two ranks, as opposed to three in recent expansions.
Epic Profession Equipment - All professions will now have access to epic quality profession equipment. The uncommon green gear can still be bought and sold on the AH, while the rare and epic gear is Bind on Pickup and has to be ordered through the work order system.
New Ore Modifiers
Similar to ore in recent expansions, the herb-nodes in Midnight are sometimes modified. In Midnight the modifiers are tied to elements, and each type of modifier will always grant motes of the element it’s tied to. As such Lightfuse ore will always drop Mote Of Light. You can always spot a mining node with a modifier on your mini-map, as it has a special icon.
Each type of node can only be found in specific zones or areas. The table below shows which nodes can be farmed where and which type of element drops.
| Ore Modifier | Mote Type | Zone |
| Lightfused | Mote Of Light | Eversong Woods + light areas |
| Wild | Mote Of Wild Magic | Zul’Aman |
| Primal | Mote Of Primal Energy | Harandar |
| Voidbound | Mote Of Pure Void | Voidstorm + void areas |
Lightfused
When you mine a Lightfused ore several orbs will spawn around it. Catching them will grant you additional Motes of Light.
Overloading these nodes spawns a large amount of light-orbs in the air, which grant Motes of Light if you catch them before they hit the ground.
Wild
When you mine a Wild node you will spawn two hostile earth elementals which can be defeated and mined for additional resources.
If you overload this node you will be attacked by an Elite Bear. Defeating the bear will grant the buff Wild Perception for 5 minutes increasing your Perception by 150.
Primal
When you mine Primal ore you receive a debuff which slows you, and deals a minor amount of damage over time. Druid shapeshift removes this debuff.
Overloading this node will summon green orbs on the ground. Run into these to receive additional Mote Of Primal Energy.
Voidbound
When you mine Voidbound ore a void portal will appear and start to pull you in. The portal does no damage, and nothing happens if you get pulled to its center; it’s just an annoyance when you are trying to fly to the next node.
Overloading this node summons orbs on the ground which grant reagents (random ore and Voidbound motes) when you run through them. A portal also spawns, which when clicked on sends you to another modified node.
We don’t recommend overloading these nodes until you have the Voidbound sub-specialisation (which grants a portal back again), as you can be sent deep into caves or even into other zones, without an easy way back.
Rich ore and Seams
In addition to the modified nodes above, you will also have the usual Rich nodes and Seams which grant additional resources.
Before Starting Mining
If you are starting Mining at the beginning of the Midnight expansion you will not have much of an opportunity to purchase anything. However, if you are starting later there might be a couple of things to get before you start.
Equipment
Before starting to mine, you may want to pick up some profession equipment, since the increase to skill will let you start gathering higher quality materials much earlier. You can purchase cheap green equipment from the auction house, although availability early on in the expansion may be lower.
The Thalassian Pickaxe, Farstrider Rock Satchel and Farstrider Hardhat should be great to get you started.
When you upgrade to blue and epic quality, we recommend upgrading the Pickaxe, then the Hardhat and finally the Satchel.
Tea
Teas are a new type of crafted food made with the Cooking profession. There are a total of 3 teas which buff gathering professions, and which you can either buy on the AH or make yourself:
| Tea | Stat |
| Azeroot Tea | Deftness |
| Sanguithorn Tea | Perception |
| Argentleaf Tea | Finesse |
We recommend using either the Sanguithorn Tea or the Argentleaf Tea. Whichever you have the mats to craft or is cheapest on the auction house.
Leveling Midnight Mining
To level mining, you just need to keep mining. However, some nodes will stop giving you levels once you reach a certain skill level. The table breaks down at what mining level each node will go Yellow, Green and finally Gray.
| Ore | Yellow | Green | Gray |
| Umbral Tin / Reflungent Copper | 30 | 35 | 40 |
| Brilliant Silver | 65 | 70 | 75 |
| Rich Umbral Tin / Reflungent Copper | 45 | 50 | 55 |
| Rich Brilliant Silver | 75 | 80 | 85 |
| Umbral Tin / Reflungent Copper Seam | 80 | 85 | 90 |
| Brilliant Silver Seam | 90 | 95 | 100 |
| Named Umbral Tin / Reflungent Copper | 80 | 85 | 90 |
| Named Brilliant Silver | 100 | 100 | 100 |
We don’t recommend ignoring nodes that don’t give skill ups, however, if you see several nodes you should prioritize the ones which give skill ups.
Mining Farming Routes
Below we have suggested a mining route in Eversong Woods, which is the first leveling zone of Midnight. We have purposely chosen the areas with your character not being max level in mind.

Best Mining Knowledge Builds
We think Mining knowledge choices in Midnight are pretty clear cut, and have two different builds we recommend. One is more focused on mining while mounted, the other is generally going to yield more resources but will dismount you.
Regardless of which build you choose, always unlock the Over-LODED tree first (without putting points in it) as this makes the Overload node ability come off cooldown a lot faster.
Mining Fundamentals - Mount Build
In this build, once you reach level 50 Midnight Mining and can unlock your second specialization, you pick Mining Fundamentals and fill out the main wheel with as many points as you can. Once you fully filled it out, and can mine while mounted, segway into the Plentiful Ores tree (which you have likely unlocked by now) and fill the main wheel there. Finally fill in the wheels for the ore that you specifically want.
Beyond this point, place your points as you like.
Over-LODED - More Raw Materials
In this build we recommend spending 5 points in the Over-LODED tree, to pick a sub-specialization. We suggest taking the Wild specialization, which means that the two elementals spawned by mining Wild ore will drop additional materials. Then continue filling out the Wild wheel, to continue to increase the amount of materials earned from mining these nodes. This strategy will greatly buff you when mining in Zul’Aman, which means that is where you should be mining exclusively. Once the Wild node is full, finish the main Over-LODED one, and then move to Plentiful Ores. Beyond this point, place your points as you like.
Where to obtain Knowledge Points
Similar to other expansions, you earn 1 knowledge point every time you mine a new node you have previously not mined. As there are 3 different minable nodes, and each one has 7 variants (normal, rich, seam, and 4 modified), you can earn 21 knowledge points by mining every type of ore.
Profession Treasures
There are a total of 8 profession treasures scattered around Midnight Zones, which award a one time only 3 knowledge points each. We have a full guide with their locations in our Profession Treasures Location Guide.
Faction Profession Knowledge
Once you reach renown 6 with Amani Tribe in Zul’Aman, you can buy 10 Mining Knowledge from Magovu for 75 Artisan’s Miner's Moxie and 750 Voidlight Marl.
Abundance Knowledge
You can buy 10 Mining Knowledge from Chel the Chip for 1600 Unalloyed Abundance and 75 Artisan’s Miner’s Moxie. Unalloyed Abundance is a currency earned from doing weekly Abundance events around Midnight zones, and Chel the Chip is a vendor at the Abundance locations.
Weekly Knowledge
In addition you can earn knowledge points weekly from several sources which we have in the table below.
| Knowledge Source | Knowledge points |
| Weekly Quest | 3 |
| Drops from Gathering | 9 |
| Thalassian Treatise on Mining | 1 |
Darkmoon Faire
When Darkmoon Faire is active you can gain 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points by doing a short quest from Rinling called Rearm, Reuse, Recycle.
We recommend leaving this as late as possible to get the most value out of the increased skill points.
Best Professions to Pair with Mining
We recommend pairing mining either with a profession that can take advantage of the resources:
- Blacksmithing
- Engineering
- Jewelcrafting
Or you can choose a second gathering profession:
- Herbalism
- Skinning
Best Race for the Mining Profession
While all races are perfectly fine for mining, a few do have some bonuses that will have a minor impact.
- Highmountain Tauren - Their Pride of Ironhorn grants 5 additional skill to mining and 25% increase to deftness, letting you mine more quickly
- Dracthyr - Their Discerning Eye grants 2 % Perception, which increases the amount of rare resources you receive from mining.
- Earthen - Their Hyper Productive grants 2 % Finesse, which increases the amount of resources you receive from mining.
- Kul Tiran - Have Jack of All Trades which increases all profession skills by 2.
We hope this Mining Profession leveling guide helped you get started with this gathering profession. For more Midnight content you can check out all of our Midnight Guides.
