You've probably noticed if you've spent a bit of time in Dune Awakening that your third ability slot is locked. This can however be unlocked fairly easily while playing but it's also easy to miss.
Fear not, this guide will show you how to unlock it with ease by focusing your time on a specific sequence of quests.
Unlocking the Third Ability Slot
At the start of the game, one of the first quests we get when we begin our story in Dune is the First Trial of AQL. This quest introduces us to Spice for the first time, but the quest change is one that will stick around for a while.
The Second and Third trials come fairly soon after, however, it’s the Fourth Trial of AQL that we ware going to focus on.
It’s the hardest of the first four to do, in the sense that it requires the most effort before we start. However, its compilation opens up two major new mechanics. The first is Spice-fueled combat, but the second is the unlocking of the third ability slot.
The Fourth Trial of AQL
We’re returning to the Eastern Vermillius Gap, located just north of South Hagga Basin on the east side of the map. Head straight for the giant hammer rock that was first mentioned upon our arrival. The site is quite noticeable.
The Fourth Trial of AQL is found within the largest rock formation on the map. Unlike earlier trials, there is no cave; this time, we must ascend. Approach the giant hammer rock from the east. If you approach from the west, you might miss the actual hammer. Be ready to climb the rock face, as this ascent can be quite challenging.
Pro tip: Bring a Suspensor Belt with a strong power pack; relying solely on stamina won’t suffice.
Sticking to the 'official' route simplifies the climb and may eliminate the need for a Suspensor Belt. If you opt for a different route, be sure to take breaks as needed.
You’ll recognise you’re in the correct location when you see bodies, ropes, and rune carvings. Continue along the path until the quest advances. Prior to entering the large room filled with spice, be sure to collect the radio device for additional lore.
Once you finish the trial, you will have your new ability slot unlocked.
