The Planetologist is one of the five classes you can play in Dune Awakening. However, unlike the other four, the Planetologist is the only one you can't play as your primary class.
With the Planetologist not being a primary class, we need to unlock it to use it as our secondary class. Thankfully, the process isn't that difficult, and it can be done in the first few hours of the game. In fact, it's possible that you already have the required quest item without even realising it.
In this guide, we'll go over how to unlock the class so that you can take advantage of it as early as possible.
How to Unlock the Planetologist
Early in the game, you'll need to head near Griffin's Reach Tradepost. As shown in the image above, you can see Griffin's Reach Tradepost as the left icon. The right icon shows the Testing Station 2, a key location for the quest. You will find the Planetologist trainer in the orange circle. There is a path to reach him on the West side of the rock.

Once you find Derek Chinara, the Planetologist will ask you to find a Minimic Film in Testing Station 2, located below where he is. The quest is fairly simple, and requires you to go deep inside the Testing Station. Our advice is once you are done, continue to the end of the location anyway and make sure you fully clear the location first. There are other quests in here, and many of them allow you to pick up the item before you even have the quest. If not, then we suggest going to Griffin's Reach Tradepost first to collect some of the quests and contracts.
Pro tip: You can get the Minimic Film before heading to the Planetologist and then hand the quest in right away.
Once you head into the Testing Station, you'll need to fight your way till near the end before you get to the Minimic Film location. Once you get to the location shown above, you are nearly there. For context, this is about 15 minutes into the dungeon, and features a large round room, with huge trees blooming up from the ground. Make sure to loot the room first, but then head down the spiral stairs and onto the final part of the quest.
Once you reach the long corridor with the green energy door at the end, you are in the right place. Towards the end of the corridor, but before you go through it, you'll see a bookshelf with a yellow light on it as shown above. Open the door and head inside.
In the room, you'll find a briefcase which contains another briefcase inside, which is the quest item we need. You can head out now and be done, however, it's best to kill the boss at the end behind the green door as it gives us a quick way out.
Head back to the quest giver, and unlock the Planetologist. You can now spend points on skills in the tree and pair your main class with one of the best PvE classes in the game.
