Abyss Heuklang - How to Tame the Cute Black Chimera Pet in Crimson Desert

Written by Geekmandem - 23rd April 2026

The Abyss Heuklang is a cute, fluffy black cat/chimera that can be found very early in the game. You simply need to head to the Abyss Archive, which is the first place you visit in the Abyss, and look for the Abyss Heuklang there.

In this guide, we'll show you how to tame this cute little "kitty" so you can have it follow you around on your journey.

What Is the Abyss Heuklang?

The Abyss Heuklang is a Chimera-type animal that is "a peculiar animal with sleek, black, silky fur." The Abyss Heuklang was one of the most wanted pets by fans since the game's release.

With the release of Patch 1.04.00 on April 23rd, many players spent hours trying to tame it, feeding it legendary fish, Abyss Artefacts, and anything else can be thrown on the floor. Players even tried following it around the Archive, petting it repeatedly, only to get nowhere. Pearl Abyss acknowledged the demand and officially made it tameable with the April 2026 update.

Abyss Heuklang Location

The Abyss Heuklang can be found at the Axiom Archive, the ancient library you first visit during the main quest Polar Opposites in Chapter 1. It's one of the first Abyss locations in the game, so it's easily accessible once you've progressed past the opening hours. Of course, if you have progressed past that point, you can easily return whenever you like.

The Abyss Heuklang doesn't stray far from this area. Look for it along the outer courtyard and the pathway leading up to the Archive entrance; it also likes to sleep on the pillars outside the main entrance. If it's not visible immediately, try sleeping to advance in-game time or fast traveling away and back, as this causes the spawn pool to refresh.

Pro Tip: Unsummon your current active pet before approaching the Abyss Heuklang. Your companion will gobble up any food you drop before the wild creature gets to it, wasting precious Trust gains.

How to Tame the Abyss Heuklang

Taming the Abyss Heuklang uses the same Trust system as all other pets in Crimson Desert. You need to build its Trust from 0 up to 100, at which point you can register it as your companion. Trust is earned through two actions: petting and feeding, both of which have daily caps that reset at midnight in-game time.

  • Petting will reward +5 Trust; however, it has a cap of 25 per day, meaning just petting will take four days
  • Feeding will reward +10 Trust; however, this is capped at 35 per day, meaning it will take three days
  • The key is to combine the two. Feed for +35 Trust in meat, then pet them three more times
  • Now, go away and sleep, or just come back in 12 hours/the next day. Repeat the steps above again, and you will hit 100 Trust
  • Note, the Abyss Heuklang will have a "favourite" food which will tame them in one day. We will update the second we work this out.

Can the Abyss Heuklang Wear Armor?

Currently, it can't as it's still listed as a "Chimera-type" which means it's not allowed for now. This may change in future, however, as the pet was only made tameable via a patch.

Renaming Your Abyss Heuklang

Also added in Patch 1.04.00 is the ability to rename your pets. Once you've tamed your Abyss Heuklang, you can give it a custom name of up to 15 characters. To do this:

  • Open your Inventory
  • Navigate to the Pets tab
  • Select your Abyss Heuklang
  • Press R-Stick (controller) or G (keyboard/mouse) to bring up the rename option
