The Pirate Hat is one of the most unique items in Crimson Desert. While it isn't considered a "best in slot" helm, having just 3 DEF and no Abyss Gear slots, It does have the Detect Treasure passive. This causes the feather on the hat to glow whenever you're near a hidden treasure chest!
For any player who likes hunting collectables and hidden loot across Pywel, it's genuinely invaluable... plus it looks really cool.
Where To Find The Pirate Hat In Crimson Desert
Getting To The Singing Catfish

Pro Tip: Before you look to loot the Pirate Hat, it's really good to pair this search with quests such as Beyond the Silent Waves & The Girl Lost in the Mists. These will send you to the ship anyway, and also offer you the Field Sprayer item, which aids with the Greymane Camp.
The Singing Catfish is a pirate ship off the coast of Reedwind Valley, the same area where you fought the Reed Devil in Chapter 3. The ship is visible from shore, but it's too far to swim. You need a boat.
- Head to Vellua, the small fishing village along the coast
- From Vellua, follow the coastline east until you find a small cove and beach
- On that beach, you'll find a small rowboat which you can interact with to get in
Pro Tip: If you have level two flying and you have good stamina, it is possible to fly over to the ship if you jump from the cliffs overlooking Vellua village.
Approaching the Ship

The Singing Catfish is not welcoming. There are two hazards to deal with before you even get on board:
- Sea mines: the water surrounding the ship is packed with proximity mines. Navigate through them carefully rather than cutting straight in.
- Cannons: the ship fires cannons from both sides. Approach from the front or the back to stay out of their firing arc. Coming in from the sides will get you blown up.
Once you've made it through the mines and come in from the front or rear, use the ladder to climb the ship or just climb up.
Clearing the Ship
The ship is full of pirates, and there's a Vice Captain marked with a red star on your minimap. A few things to be aware of:
- Some pirates throw grenades, so don't cluster in tight spaces.
- Ignore the Vice Captain until the regular pirates are down; trying to fight everyone at once in the confined space is the quickest way to get into trouble.
- There is also a wind spell, which will wrap you in wind. You will need to pass the Quick Time Event (QTE) to get out of the binding. For us, this happened the second we attacked the first pirate.
- Once the crew is cleared, deal with the Vice Captain on his own.
Stock up on food before you head out; there's no restocking opportunity once you're at sea.
Finding the Pirate King Hat

With the ship cleared, head to the lower deck of the ship and head to the closed room at the back of this section. Open the door into the storage room, and the chest containing the Pirate King Hat is inside.
How The Pirate Hat Detect Treasure Passive Works
With the Pirate Hat equipped, when you are close to treasure, it will glow white. It's not the most amazing ability in the game, but you do get to wear a cool pirate hat, which probably makes up for it.
A couple of things worth knowing:
- Direct sunlight can make the glow harder to spot; pay closer attention when exploring during the daytime.
- The hat indicates you're near treasure, not the exact location. If the glow stops, you've moved out of range. Backtrack and scan the area more carefully.
- The hat cannot be refined at a Blacksmith and has no Abyss Gear slots, so its 3 DEF is fixed. It's a utility piece, not a combat one. Swap it on when exploring new areas and switch back to your normal headgear for fights.
Happy looting!
