Clay is one of the more important early resources in Windrose. You’ll be asked to find and mine it as early as the Islander Tutorial with limited hints regarding its location but don't worry, this simple guide will keep you right.
Where to Find Clay in Windrose and How to Mine It
Where To Find Clay in Windrose

As you can see in the images above, Clay spawns in large brown/muddy patches, usually nestled in amongst grass and typically near the coast. It's usually roughly where the sand meets the grass and the nodes are clumped together.
How To Mine Clay in Windrose

When it comes to mining clay, you are going to first need to acquire a Pickaxe. You can use the Stone Pickaxe, which can easily be crafted at the workbench with the following recipe:
- Stone Pickaxe: 3 Wood and 3 Stone
Keep in mind that Clay is not exactly abundant on the islands and it takes a while to respawn once you completely mine a node. We found that it took about 3 in-game days to respawn after mining it ourselves. So, when you do go looking for Clay, make sure to mine all the available nodes and store them for future usage.
What Is Clay Used For In Windrose?

Mining one Clay node completely gives you about 70-80 clay, which is not much. However, if you mine 4-5 or more clay nodes altogether, you should have enough clay to last you a while. Once you do get enough clay, you'll be able to make important items like the Charcoal Kiln and Smelting Furnace to then further progress in the game by making Copper Ingots.
