When you reach the Cursed Swamp zone in Windrose, you will get access to a new system: Enchanting. This system is not really super fleshed out in the current version of Early Access but despite that is still essential for crafting some of the best weapons in the game.
In this short guide, we'll run through how the system works, what you can do with it and how we suggest you go about interacting with it.
How Does Enchanting Work In Windrose?
How To Unlock Enchanting In Windrose
You will first be able to interact with the Enchanting system in Windrose when you reach the Cursed Swamps. To unlock Enchanting, you will first need to obtain Plague Wood, and then smelt the Plague Wood into Essence Arborum at the Smelting Furnace or Large Smelting Furnace.

Plague Wood can either be obtained by chopping down Tainted Trees within Plague Wood zones of the Cursed Swamp (see left image below) or by killing Plague Crocodiles.

The Enchanting Table
Once you have smelted Essence Arborum, you will be able to build the Enchanting Table. This can be found in the 'Refining' section of the Building Menu right at the very end, and has no upgrades. To craft the Enchanting Table you will need:
- 3x Mire Metal Ingots
- 10x Hewn Stone (crafted at Workbench)
- 10x Plant Fiber
- 2x Essence Arborum
The Enchanting Table currently only produces one item: Ingot Arborum.
Ingot Arborum: Crafting The Most Powerful Weapons & Bullets In Windrose
In this section we'll explain what Ingot Arborum is used for and how you can craft it most efficiently.
What Is Ingot Arborum Used For In Windrose?
Ingot Arborum currently has two primary uses:
- Crafting & upgrading the most powerful weapons in Windrose: Plague Weapon
- Crafting the most powerful bullets in Windrose: Bullet Arborum

Crafting Plague Weapons with Ingot Arborum
The following weapons require Ingot Arborum to craft or upgrade:
- Plague Halberd
- Rapier of Devastation
- Arboris Saber
All three of these weapons are S-tier and extremely powerful. However that comes at a cost as they are very expensive to craft. Each of these weapons costs 8x Arborum Ingots (and other materials) to craft at Level 11, and for each upgrade thereafter.

Therefore, to craft a Level 11 Plague weapon and upgrade it to Level 15, the cost will be 40 Ingot Arborum, which requires
- 40x Mire Metal Ingot
- 80x Essence Arborum
- 40x Tainted Bile
Crafting Bullet Arborum with Ingot Arborum
Bullet Arborum are the strongest bullets in the game, by a long shot. Not only do they fly straight and true ('excellent ballistics'), they also increase Critical Damage by 30%. However, just 5 bullets will set you back 1x Ingot Arborum.
Crafting Ingot Arborum: How To Get Tainted Bile & Quagmire Powder
You will come across two bottlenecks when you start crafting Ingot Arborum: Quagmire Powder and Tainted Bile.
- Quagmire Powder is required to craft the Metal Mire Ingots
- Tainted Bile is required for the Ingot Arborum recipe

Fear not however, for we have scoured the Cursed Swamps for you, testing various different methods to work out what the fastest way to farm these resources are, as follows:
- Quagmire Powder Farming Guide: The best locations to farm large numbers of low level Plague enemies
- Tainted Bile Farming Guide: The best locations to consistently find groups of Plague Crocodiles.
