The Boar Whistle is one of very few Legendary items in Windrose that you can actually use. So what is it? The Boar Whistle is an item that you can activate to summon Truffle, a boar companion that will engage in combat.
The Boar Whistle has unlimited uses and a reasonably short cooldown.
How To Get The Boar Whistle in Windrose
You can obtain the Boar Whistle in Windrose once you reach the Foothills zone. It's recommended you are at least Level 8 and have Level 8 or higher weapons and armor but there's nothing stopping you from obtaining it earlier.
You will need to find an island that has an Ancient Village POI with the following description text on mouseover:
"A ruined village now inhabited by animals. Above the wreckage rises a mysterious altar of the ancients."
Once you reach the location, you will find a large Altar at the top of a hill, and various ruins nearby.
Making An Offering At The Ancient Altar
To obtain the Boar Whistle, you need to interact with the Ancient Altar and provide an offering of the following items:
- 20 Meat
- 3 Ritual Oil
You'll be able to find the Meat by killing Goats or Wolves nearby (there are many). Read on to find the Ritual Oils.
How to Get the 3 Ritual Oils For The Offering
The village contains three nearby ruins which each contain a chest. Within each chest you'll find one of the three Ritual Oils you need to make an offering at the Altar.
All of the ruins around the Ancient Village contain aggressive Level 8 Wolves and Goats. You can mostly skip by them but it's easier to just come at the appropriate level.
Ritual Oil 1: Wolf Den
Just southwest of the Altar you'll find a ruin full of wolves. The chest sits within the ruin.
Ritual Oil 2: Goat Ruin
Moving counter-clockwise around the Altar, you'll find another ruin nearby in the southeast. This ruin is guarded by a number of Goats and you'll find the chest you are looking for in the centre of the ruin.
Ritual Oil 3: Climbing Puzzle
Continue further counter-clockwise around the alter to find the final ruin, again guarded by Goats. We use the term 'climbing puzzle' pretty loosely here. To access the chest you will need to climb up a fallen pillar the side of the ruin and jump down into the chest room.
The Boar Whistle: How Truffle Works
The Boar Whistle allows you to summon your new trusty porcine companion: Truffle. Truffle is actually super useful throughout the entire game, even in the Cursed Swamps. He doesn't deal a lot of damage but he is a great little tank that can distract your enemies.
Use him when you are in danger and need to heal, get away or reload. Or simply use him to tank enemies so you can dish out some damage. The cooldown on the Boar Whistle is pretty low so you can use it liberally.
How To Get The Windrose Crocodile Whistle
You might have seen mention of the Crocodile Whistle across various database sites or discussed in the Discord. As far as we are aware, there is currently no way to obtain the Crocodile Whistle in Windrose.
