Fishing is a fun little minigame in Windrose that isn't currently super fleshed out but is a nice touch nonetheless. Fishing is required to obtain raw materials for cooking certain items, including some of the best food in the game. You are also awarded a unique Ring for catching every fish. Read on to learn all about it.
How Does Fishing Work In Windrose?
Crafting Your Fishing Rod
To start fishing in Windrose, you will need a Level 2 Workbench. That means building the Sawhorse building upgrade in the 'Crafting & Utilities' > 'Workbench' section of the Building Menu. Once you have the Sawhorse, interact with the Workbench and you'll be able to craft the 'Simple Fishing Rod' for 5x Hardwood, 3x Rope and 2x Foothills Iron Ingots.

Catching Fish
To fish, simply assign the Fishing Rod to a hotkey and equip it, then click (as you would to attack) to cast your rod out into the water. You can cast your rod from the shore or from a boat, basically anywhere there is water.

The bobber at the end of the line will bob, but what you are waiting for is a big splash (as shown in the image above). When you see it, left click again to reel the catch in.
Catching Every Fish In Windrose
There are currently 10 fish that you can catch in Windrose, 6 uncommon fish, 2 rare fish and 2 epic fish. As you'd expect the rarer the fish, the lower the chance of catching it. The fish are either live in the shallows or in deep waters as listed below:
Fish In The Shallows
- Blue Tang
- Moon Angelfish
- Queen Angelfish
- Pink Wrasse
- Sapphire Wrasse
- Reef Snapper
Fish In Deep Waters
- Emerald Bluefish (Rare)
- Red Snapper (Rare)
- Giant Mackerel (Epic)
- Large Barracuda (Epic)

Note: There is currently a bug that allows you to catch all fish no matter whether you are fishing in the shallows or in deep water but we expect this will be patched soon.
What Can You Do With Fish In Windrose?
All fish in Windrose currently serve one purpose, and that is to be processed into Fish Fillets. This is done simply by right-clicking on the fish in your inventory, with smaller (uncommon) fish yielding a small number of Fish Fillets and larger (rare and epic) fish yielding much higher amounts.
Fish Fillets are required for crafting some of the best food in the game, full list below:
| Food Item | Rarity | Effect | Recipe |
| Seafood Skewer | Uncommon | +5 Strength | 1x Fish Fillet, 1x Crab Meat |
| Chowder | Rare | +10 Agility | 3x Fish Fillet, 3x Sweet Potato, 2x Salt |
| Fish and Tostones | Rare | +10 Vitality | 3x Fish Fillet, 3x Banana, 2x Nuts |
| Seafood Platter | Epic | +20 Vitality | 7x Fish Fillet, 4x Lime, 3x Crab Meat, 4x Salt |
If you are wondering where to get Salt, you can obtain it through naval combat (boarding ships) or buying it from the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner for 2 Piastre per piece.
Reward For Catching All Fish
There is also a reward for catching all 10 fish, the 'Fisherman's Ring'. This ring grants a 15% chance to catch an extra fish while fishing but can be upgraded to Epic (Major Fisherman's Ring) to increase the chance to 30%.

Honestly, you're going to have so many Fish Fillets after catching every fish that I think it's unlikely you'll need to go fishing again any time soon but if you are a completionist then it's a must-have of course.
Happy fishing! If you're running low on Piastre, check out our Piastre guide which breaks down all sources of Piastre and advises on the most efficient methods of farming it.
