In the second season of the WoW Midnight Expansion Blizzard are changing how the Catalyst will work. In the previous seasons when you used the Catalyst it would convert the item into the desired tier piece item.
However, in Season 2 of Midnight using the Catalyst will keep the current stats and cantrips on the item you inserted, while still turning it into a tier piece. Resulting in some tier items being better stats if made from a Tier Set item token, and for others getting a specific item drop from a raid or dungeon and using the catalyst to give it the Tier Set Bonus.
You will only be able to get the tier set items with their assigned stats from the Tier Tokens and Curios that drop from The Venomous Abyss Raid. If you do not know where to find the Curio Vendor, check out our Where to Find the Curio Vendor Guide.
