How to Complete To The Rescue: The Infinite Quest

Written by Geekmandem - 27th March 2026

While many explorers wander the wilds of Pywel, wondering if the To the Rescue faction quest ever actually ends, the answer isn't found in a random bandit camp; it’s found north of Hernand.

If you’ve been freeing Pailunese refugees from cages at Karin Quarry or bumping into tied-up prisoners across the Hernand Region, you’ve likely noticed your quest log remains stubbornly open. Here is the definitive way to wrap up this questline.

The Problem: The "Endless" Rescue

Most guides suggest that To the Rescue is a nonlinear, potentially infinite task. Some players report being up to nearly 500 Pailunese Refugees freed with no sign that the quest is ever going to end. But, there is a theory for how you complete it, which we cover later in the guide.

How to Progress To The Rescue Quest

You earn credit for the quest in a number of ways, as shown below:

  • Interacting with (or bumping into) tied-up refugees
  • Breaking prisoners out of cages (similar to the Hernand Guard Station)
  • Ambushing bandit convoys on the road.

However, many players get stuck clearing camps without ever seeing a "Quest Complete" notification. So, what's going on?

Quick Tips for Efficient Rescuing

  • Don't Waste Time: You don’t need to untie every single refugee in Pywel to trigger the end. Just do it as you go, do not go out of your way
  • The "Bumping" Mechanic: As noted by many, you don't need to sit through a long "Untie" animation. Simply sprinting into a tied-up refugee will free them instantly, allowing you to stay mobile during bandit skirmishes

The Solution: The Crossroads of Succession

Note: The solution is based on a Reddit comment about the quest. A number of people claim it fixed it; however, some said it did not. We are investigating it, but it looks like there could be a few quirks to it.

To officially progress and close out this chapter of the Pailunese struggle, you need to follow the refugee trail to its logical conclusion. Pailune is an area in the north of the map, and if you go running up there, you will find the people not so friendly. Instead, you need to progress the main story into Chapter 7, when the "Homecoming" storyline starts.

Once you do, you will be introduced to the Blue Fang group as you look to reclaim your homeland from the Jackals and Black Bear tribes. Once here, you will eventually start the following sequence of quests:

Faction quest > Pailune > Pailune Militia > Crossroads of Succession > Closed Fence

The Crossroads of Succession has nine quests, and technically, you can start them in Chapter 6. But this quest is very odd, and even we are not 100% sure if it's just bugged or not. You will first get access to the Closed Fence quest shown above after you complete Chapter 7.

Note: Having progressed past the above point ourselves and progressed even further in the chain, we have yet to see this quest completed. We will update it once we do.
