The Ruby Whelp Shell is a powerful trinket that is returning in Midnight Season 2.
The Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket drops from the Ruby Life Pools dungeon, which was originally released in the Dragonflight WoW Expansion, but will be returning to the Mythic+ dungeon pool in Midnight Season 2.
The use and passive effect on the trinket are a little ambiguous. In this guide we go over all 6 of the effects the Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket can have and how to train it to more reliably get the effect you want.
Where to Obtain The Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket in Midnight Season 2
The Ruby Whelp Shell trinket drops from Melidrussa Chillworn, the first boss of the Ruby Life Pools Dungeon. Meaning this trinket will be available on Myth Track either from the Great Vault or using Nebulous Voidcore when you have completed a Ruby Life Pools on +10 or higher.
Potential Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket Procs in Midnight WoW
The Ruby Whelp Shell has 6 potential procs depending on the situation you are in. The two stat procs do not have any requirements and can always proc.
Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket Effects:
- Fire Shot - Single Target damage will be used when you are actively hitting an enemy with less than three enemies around.
- Lobbing Fire Nova - AoE damage will be used when you are hitting an enemy with three or more enemies nearby them.
- Curing Whiff - Single Target Healing when less than three friendly players are nearby.
- Mending Breath - AoE Healing when more than three players are nearby.
- Sleepy Ruby Warmth - Crit Buff for 12 seconds.
- Under Red Wings - Haste Buff for 12 seconds.
Note: When you are in combat the Ruby Whelp will use all of these depending on the enemies and other players present randomly, unless you train the trinket to be more predictable. When you train your Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket, the situational requirements will not need to be met to get that effect. For example, you can have the trinket proc a Crit or Haste Buff more frequently.
Training Your Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket
The on-use effect on the Ruby Whelp Shell lets you train your Ruby Whelp to make the procs you get more consistent. You get to train your whelp 6 times in total, each time increasing the chance of that proc.
Daily Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket Training Cooldown
Training the whelp shell is a daily cooldown and you can track your progress through the following in game command.
/run for i=2148,2153,1 do V=C_CurrencyInfo.GetCurrencyInfo(i); print(V.name.." - discovered:",tostring(V.discovered)..", quantity:",tostring(V.quantity)) end
Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket Training Options
The table below shows a breakdown of the proc effects available with the respective training activity you need to use the on-use action of your Ruby Whelp Shell Trinket in for your Ruby Whelp to proc that effect more consistently.
| Ruby Whelp Shell Proc | Proc Type | Training Activity |
| Fire Shot | Single Target | Use on an enemy with no other enemies nearby. |
| Lobbing Fire Nova | AoE Damage | Use on an enemy that has at least 3 enemies nearby. |
| Curing Whiff | Single Target Healing | Use on a friendly player or healable NPC that is their own. |
| Mending Breath | AoE Healing | Use on friendly a player or healable NPC near other friendlies. |
| Sleepy Ruby Warmth | Crit Buff | Stand on your own and target yourself. |
| Under Red Wings | Haste Buff | Stand in the middle of several other friendly targets and use it on yourself. |
If you train your whelp incorrectly you can retrain it, and you will always remove one from the highest trained skill. The daily cooldown remains, meaning a full retrain from one proc to another will take 6 days.
Once you have completed the training, the Ruby Whelp Shell will now have a much higher chance to select the trained skill. Making the proc effect for the trinket more reliable.
Overall the Ruby Whelp Shell could be a very powerful trinket for Season 2 of WoW Midnight. With a lot of specs when it was originally available training one of the stat buff procs.
