Turbulent Timeways is a recurring Timewalking event that spans several weeks, and it's returning in Midnight Season 1 during Patch 12.0.7, starting on June 30th and running until August 11th 2026.
Over the course of the event you will gain access to several different WoW Expansion’s Timewalking dungeons each week, by completing these dungeons you will also gain an experience buff that can be used to quickly level characters.
This guide will show you how to get the maximum Experience gained Buff available during the Midnight Season 1 Turbulent Timeways V event, and our recommendations for what content to do whilst the buff is active. Turbulent Timeways is always a great time to level up any characters you haven't had a chance to yet.
How to Obtain the Mastery of the Timeways Experience Buff in WoW Midnight
Mastery of the Timeways increases the experience you gain from killing enemies and completing quests by 30%. The buff lasts 3 hours, persists through death and is refreshed when you complete a Timewalking dungeon.
To gain the buff you need to complete 4 Timewalking dungeons which will each grant 1 stack of Knowledge of the Timeways, which will turn into Mastery of the Timeways when you get your 4th stack.
Note: The buff is not account wide, meaning you will need to complete 4 Timewalking dungeons to get the buff on the character you want to level. Thankfully, Timewalking dungeons reward you with a significant amount of experience, so working towards completing them for the buff will actually contribute to leveling your character.
How to use the Mastery of the Timeways Experience Buff
There are several different ways to level with the Mastery of the Timeways experience buff: Questing and Dungeons (notably Timewalking), which we have made recommendations for in the sections below.
Questing
With the Mastery of the Timeways experience buff, questing in WoW goes from a good way to level to great; especially if you target the right zones. The following is a list of questing zones that we feel are great for new characters.
Alliance Zones:
- Elwynn Forest
- Redridge Mountains
- Duskwood
- Shadowmoon Valley (Draenor)
Horde Zones:
- Stonetalon Mountains
- Silverpine Forest
- Hillsbrad Foothills
- Frostfire Ridge
Shared Zones:
- Gorgrond
- Ohn’Ahran Plains
- The Azure Span
At level 80 you will need to level in Midnight Zones, where we would recommend picking up all of the delve quests and completing those. You can usually find these just inside the entrance to each delve.
WoW Timewalking Dungeons
Timewalking Dungeons are a great way to level, especially if you are a tank or healer and can get fast queues. They are usually pretty short (depending on what WoW Expansion's Timewalking dungeons are active) and grant a large amount of experience when completed. In addition, you can also complete some of the quests that are found within the dungeons for some bonus experience.
Other Experience Buffs in WoW
One of the best ways to take advantage of the Mastery of the Timeways Experience Buff is to stack it with other WoW experience buffs. There are quite a few you can get, but not all of them will be active at the same time.
The experience buffs you can obtain in Midnight are shown in the table below.
| Experience Buff Source | Experience Increase |
| Mastery of the Timeways | 30% (from killing monsters and completing Quests) |
| Darkmoon Faire | 10% |
| Warmode | 15% (from killing monsters and completing Quests) |
| Warband Mentor | 5% - 25% (5% per max level character) |
| Draught of the Ten Lands | 10% (up to level 50) |
Darkmoon Faire Experience Buff
There are technically two experience buffs you can get from the Darkmoon Faire, they do not stack, but how you get them is different. The Darkmoon Faire is only available from the first Sunday of a Month to the following Sunday, so it won’t be available for the entire duration of Turbulent Timeways, only on the weeks that they overlap.
You can read our Darkmoon Faire Experience Buffs Guide for more information.
Warmode Experience Buff
Warmode is an easy way to obtain 10% increased experience, it can be enabled from level 25 and onward. You simply need to open the Talent window and click on the War Mode icon in the bottom right hand corner. This can only be done in Orgrimmar/Stormwind, Valdrakken, Dornogal or Silvermoon City.
This buff will only apply to world content, meaning if you are using Timewalking dungeons to level this will not apply.
Warning: War Mode makes you attackable by players of the opposite faction. While most ignore lower levels, if you feel like you ever want to turn off War Mode you can do so in any rested area. You do not need to return to a main city.
Warband Mentor Experience Buff
The Warband Mentor is a buff that you receive for each previous max level character you have. This starts at 5% and increases by 5% for each character up until a cap of 25%.
| Level 90 Characters | Experience Buff |
| 1 | 5% |
| 2 | 10% |
| 3 | 15% |
| 4 | 20% |
| 5 | 25% |
This buff is applied automatically, you do not need to do anything special to activate it.
Draught of the Ten Lands Experience Buff
Draught of the Ten Lands is a 10% increased experience potion, it can only be used by characters that are below level 50 and the buff is lost when you die.
There is a different vendor depending on your faction. For Horde the potion costs 5 Honorbound Service Medals and is sold by Provisioner Mukra in Dazar’alor. For Alliance the potion costs 5 7th Legion Service Medals and are sold by Provisioner Stoutforge in Boralus.

If you are looking for more information on how to obtain the Service Medals for the Draught of the Ten Lands, you can read our How to Farm Honorbound and 7th Legion Service Medals Guide.
