With the release of Patch 10.2, the Emerald Dream zone and the Amirdrassil raid, Blizzard introduced a new secret hunter pet that players can tame; Nah’qi, a unique fiery owl model with a matching mount coming from Fyrakk on Mythic difficulty.
Unfortunately, this Hunter pet does have a pretty challenging requirement to even be able to tame it, as you need to have obtained the Reins of Anu’relos, Flame’s Guidance mount from Fyrakk on Mythic difficulty.
It’s also worth noting that you need to be in Beast Mastery specialisation, as this pet is classified as a spirit beast.
Once you have obtained and learnt the mount from Mythic difficulty Fyrakk, you will be awarded with both the Cinder of Companionship, which will give you access to taming the pet, and the Feather of the Blazing Somnowl, an item that allows Druid characters to transform their flight form into Anu’relos.
Thankfully you can learn both of these items on any class, with the rewards being shared account wide. So your hunter alt can get its own fiery owl pet even if you didn’t get the Fyrakk kill on that character.
Where to find Nah’qi
First let's outline where Nah’qi is located.
The flaming owl flies high above the sky around the world tree Amirdrassil in the Emerald Dream zone. It has a leash range of 100 yards, meaning you can’t pull it down to the ground as it will stop attacking you and fly back up.
The respawn timer for Nah’qi seems to be around 30 minutes, but with the use of server hopping by joining Superbloom groups, you may be able to find it a lot quicker.
The owl flies in an anti-clockwise loop around the tree, taking under 20 minutes to complete a full circuit. The image below shows the route that Nah’qi flies and the marker shows the location of where we want to be to tame the beast.
How to Tame Nah’qi
So if Nah’qi is flying high above the ground and it’s aggro resets when we try to take it down, how do we go about completing the Tame Beast cast?
For us to get around the 100 yard leash issue, we are going to be waiting for Nah’qi just above one of the tree trunks that is conveniently in the patrol path of Nah’qi.

Tip: I would recommend switching to Steady Flight mode so you can just hover in a single spot in the air whilst you wait for Nah’qi to be close enough to engage. You can change your flight mode in the mount journal.
Once the owl flies above you, tag the mob and either use the Disengage ability just before you hit the tree trunk to avoid dying to fall damage, or use a Goblin Glider Kit to glide onto the branch. If you have executed this correctly, Nah’qi should come down to the branch and start attacking you. Once this happens you should begin your Tame Beast cast.
And if all goes well, you have just gained a brand new unique pet! If you want to look extra cool, you can tame a second Nah’qi and have one in the stable, so then you have 2 fire owls accompanying you everywhere! Running around on Anu’relos mount really adds to this effect too.
