Ascendant Voidshards are combined to create Ascendant Voidcore in WoW Midnight Patch 12.0.5. You need 5 Ascendant Voidshards to create an Ascendant Voidcore, which can be used to upgrade max level Hero Track and Myth Track weapons and trinkets by 6 item levels, up to a max item level of 282 / 298 (or 289 / 295 for Crafted Gear).
Originally these had a small chance to drop from end-game content., Thankfully, in a hotfix going live on May 13th, this was changed to have the following content always rewards you with an Ascendant Voidshard:
- Heroic and Mythic raid kills.
- Mythic+ 10 or higher completions, with no cap.
- Delve Tier 11 bountiful chests.
- Nightmare Prey Champion gear boxes.
Ascendant Voidshards come from a variety of sources, some have a higher drop chance than others. We have put together a list of all of the ways you can earn them starting with the best and slowly working towards the slowest.
This guide has been written based on the Ascendant Voidshards Drop Rate Hotfix, which will be going live on May 13th, later in the day.
Ways to Obtain Ascendant Voidshards
Nightmare Prey
The Nightmare version of Prey is one of the best ways to obtain Ascendant Voidshards; they are fairly quick to complete and have a 100% drop chance for an Ascendant Voidshard, from the Nightmare Prey Champion reward. However, you can only complete these twice per week.
If you are only missing a few, these are a great option as they are very quick to complete.
Delves
Delves similar to Nightmare Prey are very quick to complete, but you are limited on the amount you can complete per week as the Ascendant Voidshards are obtained from the Bountiful Chests (which you can do 4 of each day, per character) at the end of the Delve, which require a Coffer Key to open.
They are a guaranteed drop from Tier 11 delves and anything below is a lower chance, so make sure you complete them on Tier 11 if you can and make sure to have Coffer Keys.
Mythic+
Mythic+ is the only repeatable option that guarantees an Ascendant Voidshards. As long as the Mythic+ Key is +10 or higher you will always receive an Ascendant Voidshard. Anything below 10 has a small chance to drop one.
We recommend always trying to do a +10 or higher key if you want to farm Ascendant Voidshards.
Ritual Sites
Ritual Sites were originally the best place to farm Ascendant Voidshards. However, in a recent hotfix Blizzard severely reduced the drop chance in Tier 1 through 4 Ritual Sites. That being said, they did increase the drop chances slightly from Tier 5 Ritual Sites and it is probably the best option for solo players if you have already completed all Delves and Nightmare prey.
Heroic Raid
Each boss in Heroic raid is guaranteed to drop an Ascendant Voidshard, meaning you can obtain a total of 9 by clearing all the bosses.
If you are farming Heroic Raid with your guild and do not need the extra power from the Ascendant Voidshards to clear the raid, this is a great way to passively gain Voidshards.
Mythic Raid
Similar to Heroic Raid you have a guaranteed Ascendant Voidshard with each boss killed. However, Mythic is much more difficult and you will usually want to have the upgrade before entering the raid.
Overall Ascendant Voidshards are a nice way to upgrade your weapons and trinkets for a little more power. We hope this guide helped you farm all the Ascendant Voidshards you need, if you want more Patch 12.0.5 check out our Content Hub.
