Prey Overview - How To Unlock, Complete and Rewards

Prey is a new feature in Midnight, where players hunt down targets for Astalor Bloodsworn. In this guide we go over how to unlock Preys, how to hunt down your target, and which rewards you can expect.

Unlocking Prey

To unlock Preys, you need to have at least one character who has reached level 90. At that point you will get a quest to go talk to Astalor in Silvermoon, and be offered an introductory quest, Prey: Astalor’s Initiative. Completing the quest will unlock Normal difficulty prey.

Unlocking Hard Difficulty

Once you have unlocked normal difficulty you will receive the quest One Hero's Prey, which requires you to complete one prey on Normal difficulty. If you complete this quest you gain access to Hard difficulty.

Unlocking Nightmare Difficulty

To unlock Nightmare Difficulty, you first need to get to rank 4 on the Prey seasonal journey. There is a catch up for this, so if you missed a week you can keep completing random hard prey until you reach rank 4. At rank 4, Astalor will have the quest Dark Mending. This questline will end with The Sheep or The Wolf, which unlocks Nightmare Difficulty when completed.

How to Start and Complete a Prey Hunt

Once you have unlocked Prey you will be able to interact with Astalor’s Table in his sanctum in Silvermoon City.

This will bring up a map of all four of the Midnight zones, where you can select a prey to start hunting. Each week you will get 1 of each difficulty in each zone. Once you have selected a prey to hunt, head to that zone.

In the zone you will have a new red crystal icon on your interface. If you hover over it, you are informed how close you are to your prey. Completing activities within the zone, such as World Quests, killing rares or Prey specific objectives will increase your progress on the hunt.

We recommend flying over to the prey specific world quest that will spawn and completing that. In that area there will be traps which you can click for additional progress.

Occasionally your prey target will ambush you and need to be reduced to 50%, at which point they will run away. When they run away you can see a faint red cloud where they are hiding. If you go near it you can click on the prey in the cloud and “Riposte” it, for additional progress on hunting them.

Once you have filled the bar by completing objectives, you will be told the location of your prey target. Fly over to that area and click the crystal to engage the enemy. At this point you will need to kill them.

Hard and Nightmare Mode Differences

Hard and Nightmare will have the same essential layout when hunting your prey. However, they do add additional affixes that make it more challenging. but you are rewarded for that challenge.

Hard Mode adds the following affixes:

• Torment: Astalor's Artifact insidiously torments you, increasing damage taken by 2%. This effect stacks based on your Prey hunt progress.

• Hunter's Momentum: Dying in this zone will reduce your hunt progress.

• Seeping Gore: While in combat, gore occasionally appears beneath you, inflicting Shadow damage after a short delay.

Nightmare will have all of the Hard Mode affixes but will also have these additional Nightmare affixes as well.

• Echo of Predation: A bloody spirit periodically stalks you, dealing massive shadow damage on contact. You can kite the spirit and it will soon disappear, or interrupt the cast to make it disappear early.

• Bloody Command: Astalor occasionally commands you to kill an enemy, and causes you to bleed for massive Physical damage if you fail. You can kill any mob, even a critter, to fulfill the demand.

Prey Rewards

Completing a Prey grants Preyseeker's Journey progress, Gold, and a Preyseeker's Chest, which contains a variety of rewards.

Gear rewards from the Preyseeker’s Chest can only be obtained twice per week, per difficulty.

Normal: Adventurer Track Gear

Hard: Veteran Track Gear

Nightmare: Champion Track Gear

All chests have a chance to contain the Tormented Tantalum crafting reagent.

Great Vault

Completing Prey will count towards your great vault. The difficulty of the prey affects what quality reward you receive:

• Normal - Veteran Track
• Hard - Champion Track
• Nightmare - Hero Track

Vendor Rewards

The Prey vendor, V'anore, sells a variety of items for Remnant of Anguish. Some of these will require you to progress along the Prey Seasonal Journey in order to purchase them.

Decor Rewards

For each Prey Boss there is an achievement which rewards a decor item, one for Hard and one for Nightmare. For example defeating either Zadu, Fist of Nalorakk or Jo’zolo the Breaker on Hard Mode will complete the Prey: Anger Management (hard) achievement, which rewards the Preyseeker's Breaker Bust; or on Nightmare the Preyseeker's Breaker Effigy.

You can purchase additional copies of these decor from Construct Ali’a who can be found inside Astalor's Sanctum. They cost 800 Remnants of Anguish for the Hard mode decor or 1200 for the Nightmare mode decor.
