Dune Awakening Best First Base Location (Hagga Basin South)

Dune Awakening Best First Base Location (Hagga Basin South)

Written by Geekmandem - 20th May 2025

In Dune Awakening, there are a number of factors that should be considered when looking for your best base location. Starting out in Hagga Basin South, we want a base to act as a jumping-off point for our adventure.

Dune Awakening is a big game, full of resources, NPCs, quests, and other things to do. For that, we need a base of operations to get a solid foothold in the world. When starting out, there are a few things that you'll want to consider. What's important is the roof over our head and a way to store our items. This first base is just that, it's our starting point and not our forever home.

With that in mind, we've included a few locations below that are worth a look for various reasons.

Note: The starting area of the map will be busy, especially during the game's opening weeks.

Best Base Locations

Here are a few alternative options and why we like them.

Location 1 - Close to Griffin's Reach Tradepost

Our first location, and probably one of the best options, is shown above and located next to the Griffin's Reach Tradepost. The location will be busy. However, you can build anywhere nearby; you don't have to stay inside that orange circle. Just try to stay within one rock formation of the Tradepost.

Generally, you want to focus on higher ground for a base; however, in the early game, our focus is on getting a roof over our heads, and we’re not too worried about building our forever home.

This location gives us the chance to farm resources locally, with good yields of building materials and NPCs. It is also close enough to other major areas that we can move around freely.

The location also keeps us safe from the worm. However, you’ll likely hear from them often as the area is a prime location for players getting caught out in open sand.

Location 2 - The Downed Ship

Another good location early is the downed ship. This location will serve as one of the major quest spots, and is a really good spot for resources. We can’t build too close to the ship, so we need to pick a rock formation nearby. In the picture above, you can see we went for the West side. For us, this made the most sense as it also places us close to the Testing Station, another major quest location in the game.

With a base between these two locations, you’ll have access to some of the best resource locations in the starting area, including high yields of metal and science upgrade materials.

This will be a busy location. However, you can build high on the rocks to stay out of the way of other players. Note that in the Basin, the downed ship is PvE; however, in later areas, these ships will be PvP zones.

Location 3 - Look to the North

As we’ve said a few times, this first base is exactly that, a first base. Our main aim is to move on from this first location, as we expand out into the world and look for higher tiers of resources. Once we are done in the southern section of the map, the next two locations are in the north.

With that in mind, look to build on the north-facing side of the map, with your base pointed towards the two northern sections of the map. This works to give us a good amount of safe space in the South and also keeps us hidden in the zone.

The actual location doesn’t matter, though you could easily take the two above options near Griffin’s Reach or the Downed Ship and just move to the northern side of those rocks instead. And that’s really it for good spots. You won’t need to worry about these long-term, and while you can maintain a couple of bases at the same time, they will require you to top them up with fuel.

FAQ

How many bases can you have in Dune Awakening

You can have a total of three sub-fief consoles and a maximum of two starter ones. As you advance, your starter bases will be of little use and can easily be abandoned in favour of building more advanced ones.

How do you maintain a Base in Dune Awakening?

There are two key ways that a base is maintained. In the early game, you simply keep the generator topped up with fuel. The system works similarly to games such as Rust; the idea is to stop servers from being overloaded.

Later in the game, you will be required to pay tax on your land. This tax will increase based on the size of your land, where it is, and your reputation, etc.

How do you Protect Your Base?

If you build in a neutral part of the world, i.e, not the Deep Desert, then your base will always be safe from players. However, you will need to protect it from the world around it. Coriolis Storms will happen each week and can damage your base. See these as a soft reset on the server. To do so, build a shield on the sub-field console and make sure to keep it powered. You should be fine.
