Talents
Tariq has two core builds. One combines Chain Lightning talents to amp up damage and fury generation from Chain Lightning, and the other centers on the Schism talent to increase damage with spenders directly.
If you are new to Tariq, I recommend first starting with the Lightning Build as it has the least amount of divergence from Tariq's basic rotation. The Schism build allows you to play around Schism procs to change up your damage profile on the fly if you need more prio damage in trash packs or AOE burst damage to take down adds in boss fights.
Lightning Build
This build takes mostly passive damage talents so you can focus on mastering Tariq's core gameplay of building and spending fury at the right timings. It is weaker than the Schism build in higher target count situations due to the fact that Chain Lightning has a hard target cap of 8 (with Thunderstruck).

Most of the talents in the lightning build do not directly affect your basic rotation and are effectively passive damage and fury increases. The two exceptions are High Road and Kill 'em All. If you really do not want Leap Smash as a part of your damage rotation, you can switch High Road for Bloodline without a major loss in fury generation. Kill 'em All simply adds procs that will give you extra Heavy Strike casts.
The Motherload, Thunderstruck, and Crack The Sky are all direct increases to Chain Lightning damage, while Blood & Thunder and Ace Of Spades give you additional automatic Chain Lightning casts. Kill 'em All synergizes with Blood & Thunder to further increase the number of those casts.
If you are using the Executioner's Unsanitary Bands legendary, then you should take Killing In The Name if possible.
Schism Build
This build focuses on the talent Schism to give you access to significant amounts of prio damage in trash packs, but plays significantly differently from previous iterations due to both changes to Schism itself as well as some new talents.

Schism now has a flat proc chance of 25% instead of using a PPM timer.
Sledgehammer is a new talent that makes Skull Crusher always cleave for 10% of its damage.
This build takes the old combination of Schism and Mouth For War and adds in Sledgehammer for a very potent combination, as Sledgehammer makes using Skull Crusher stronger in AOE situations, and Mouth For War can be used to slightly empower spenders buffed by Schism procs while gaining significant fury efficiency.
Them Bones further increases the average damage of Skull Crusher while Ride The Lightning, High Road, and Bloodline are all taken to maximize fury generation as Schism is all about using spenders.
Crack The Sky will increase the bonus lightning damage from spenders during Thunder Call.
Killing In The Name and Pneuma synergize with the legendary Executioner's Unsanitary Bands and can be taken if you are using that legendary.
If you are using Drape Of The Slayer King, then you can switch Killing In The Name for Far Beyond Driven.
