How to Upgrade, Reforge & Scrap your Gear in Fellowship

Written by Devorta - 16th October 2025

One of the key gameplay loops in Fellowship relies on how you use the different NPCs in the Stronghold. Scraping, Upgrading, and Reforging are some of the best ways to improve your gear and easily gain power. This guide will help you to optimize your gear and understand the systems involved.

The whole upgrade and gear progression system in Fellowship can be summed up as follows:

  • Scrap Gear to get Gold & Materials
  • Use Gold & Materials to upgrade gear
  • Use Gold & Materials to reroll traits, add sockets & reforge your gear

Note: Gear acquired through dungeons & quick play in the earlier levels can’t be used for the majority of cases in these systems.

What is Scrapping and How to Scrap in Fellowship

So, the first step is to get materials and Gold. To do so, you need to visit the Scrapper; a machine located in the Stronghold.

Once you've run a few dungeons, select the items you don’t want. If you put these in the Scrapper, you’ll destroy the items but gain gold and crafting materials. Before you scrap something, the Scrapper will show the result of the operation before destroying the item. Try to not “autopilot” and scrap everything, to avoid destroying important items by mistake.

Once you’ve scrapped items, you can use Gold & Crafting Materials at the Blacksmith, Crafter and at some Vendors, so these are key currency for your progression.

Now that you have currencies, you can visit a few NPCs, the most important ones being the Blacksmith and the Crafter. Let’s start with the Blacksmith.

How to Upgrade Weapons & Armor in Fellowship

The Blacksmith can be found close to the scrapper. At this NPC, you can only do one thing: Upgrade your gear. This is useful if you find a great piece of gear for your Hero and you don’t want to replace it. Upgrading a build defining piece will help you a lot and lessen the RNG nature of progression in Fellowship.

This, however, costs Gold & Materials. You can’t upgrade common items and the more you upgrade a gear piece, the more it will cost. Unless you’ve found an incredible item, you might want to save your rarer materials for later game items. And finally, each item has an upgrade cap, so you can’t upgrade an item infinitely.

Blacksmith upgrades are very bare-bones, they just increase base stats and item level of that item. If you want a more complex upgrade system, you’ll need to visit the Crafter.

How to Use the Crafter & Reforge Gear in Fellowship

The Crafter will help you shape the effects of your items in a way that suits your play style and your Hero.

At the Crafter Station, there are a few useful services:

  • Reforging
  • Gem Crafting
  • Changing Traits

Reforging

First of all, Reforging. Simply put, this is a reroll option. You get a piece of gear, and you don’t like it, you can just reforge it into a new item of the same rarity. Simple, direct and low cost, but it’s very random, and you won’t get what you are looking for most of the time. If you are ready to spend more currencies, you can try the other reforging options:

  • Imbued Reforging: this will reduce the randomness and offer you 3 choices once you reforge, making it easier to hit the item you are looking for. The cost is way higher, as it uses rarer Imbued Mithril but can be worth it.
  • Arcane Reforging: the more precise reforging, offering 3 options in the same slot. The cost is even higher, with Arcane Mithril being needed.

Gem Crafting

The crafter will also help you with Gem Crafting. For more about Gems, read our dedicated Fellowship Gems Guide. Gems are used to progress through the gem power system: as you gather different colored gems, each color giving you different bonuses. This is a very important progression system. At the crafter, you can do a few things to help with that:

  • You can craft gems, combining 3 same quality gems and Aether to get a higher quality gem. The higher the gem quality, the rarer the Aether will need to be.
  • You can transmute gems, changing their colors.
  • You can socket gems into gear with sockets. If you want to remove gems from your gear, you'ill need to find Cassian the Jeweler, just next to the Crafter.

Changing Traits

The last service the Crafter can give you is a way to reroll the Traits on your weapons. You'll need to visit the Shrine of Infusion to imbue and empower Traits on your weapons. Traits are passive effects increases your effectiveness in battle; it's an upgrade system exclusive to weapons.

We will update this article with more information about them as soon as possible.

Materials & How to Get Them

For most of crafting, you'll need to find a good amount of materials. Most of them can be found through scrapping, rewards at the end of dungeons or with the Material vendor (Storekeeper Keiren).
