Introduction
Welcome to Method’s Tariq guide. I’m Seymour, formerly #1 ranked Tariq that comes from a top .1% mythic plus background in World of Warcraft. This guide is meant to give you the best overall understanding of the basic fundamentals of Tariq as well as providing insight on how to master him in the end game.
Overview
Tariq is a Melee DPS who utilizes his Fury to deal damage and empower his attacks with lightning. His unique mechanic involves using a Swing Timer which is represented as a bar to the side of your character. (You can edit the way the swing timer looks via the Edit HUD settings if you prefer it to be vertical or horizontal).
Most of Tariq's damage will come in his Thunder Call window (45 seconds cooldown, reduced when playing with Fateful Basher) and his ultimate Raging Tempest windows.
Strengths
- Extremely versatile
- Very strong burst damage profile
- Tankiest DPS currently in the game, with a high health pool and armor
- One of the strongest and highest damage ultimate windows currently in the game
Weaknesses
- Poor mobility due to Leap Smash being part of your rotation (recently given more mobility via Bloodline 20% movespeed increase passive)
- Relies heavily on good Schism RNG and usage (more on this later)
- One of the harder characters to master at a high level
Early Access Season 2 Changes
Full update to follow but but here are the important changes from the Early Access Season 2 patch:
- Overall damage increased
- Bloodline now grants +20% passive movement speed
- Heavy Strike is no longer queued — it is now off the global cooldown and pressed when the swing timer is in the red
- Several talent improvements and point cost reductions
- Culling Strike is now off global cooldown
Critical gameplay changes
- Heavy Strike: Only press Heavy Strike when the swing timer is in the red. Using it incorrectly puts it on cooldown and it does -80% damage
- Face Breaker - Do NOT press Face Breaker unless it is procced.
- The icon is now always lit, but you must wait for the highlight triggered by a Wild Swing miss/dodge. This gives +400% damage and prevents the cooldown.
- Putting either Heavy Strike or Face Breaker on cooldown incorrectly is a major DPS loss.

Stat Priority
With the changes in pre season 2, haste has become a lot more useful bumping it up to second in priority behind crit. More haste the more Wild Swing Face Breaker combo's you can dish out, as well as lowering the cooldown of your Leap Smash
Strength > Crit > Haste > Expertise > Spirit
Best In Slot Gear
- BIS Weapons: Sahril's Reckoning + Fateful Basher
- Alternative Weapon: Wildstone Crusher
- BIS Relics: Bloodrite Drums + Ancient Wardstone (if going purely for stats, but you will play what your group needs per dungeon)
- Alternative Relics: Humming Portalstone +Sinbinding Stone
- BIS Legendary: Drape Of The Slayer King (all around bis) or Executioner's Unsanitary Boots (best single target and prio damage legendary) it comes down to preference, Cloak was nerfed and Culling Strike is off GCD now making boots a very strong option as well.
