What Are Weapon Traits In Fellowship? Upgrading Your Weapons

Written by Devorta - 23rd October 2025

Weapons form a key part of your build in Fellowship, as they can provide an additional active ability that can really change how your character works and their power level. But Weapons also have a unique way to get power, and this can be confusing for two reason: the weapon power tree is unlocked only on Epic weapons found in Champion and upgrading this tree comes even latter. Let's see how this all works.

How To Upgrade Weapons in Fellowship

Weapons are certainly one of the key pieces of gear that you'll want to upgrade as even before unlocking the Weapon active, they hold the best stats with a lot of primary statistics.

But Weapons really start taking over once they get their active. Weapons like Fists of Fate for Meiko completely changes the power scale of the character. Upgrading your weapon at the Blacksmith will make this active stronger, so there is now a new reason to upgrade weapons.

Finally, once you get to Champion+, Weapons start to have Weapon Talent Trees (Weapon Traits). This new tree has 5 points you need to allocate to different Traits. There are 3 different types of Traits:

  • Green: Those are your defensive traits, keys to your survival.
  • Blue: Those are Heroic traits. They are very diverse, but mostly will increase your damage & healing output.
  • Purple: Those are Master traits. They impact the way your weapon works greatly, giving new passives, more procs, more uses, more damage from the active, etc.

Once you've unlocked the weapon tree, upgrade your weapon until you can spend 5 points and get the final capstone Trait. You can only choose 5 of them, so pick wisely! At 180 ilvl, a Champion weapon will unlock their 5 traits. But, if you don't like the Traits, there is a workaround. The Crafter can help you.

Changing Weapon Traits & Passives in Fellowship

Once you've got your Champion weapon, if you don't like the traits, you can change them. For that, visit the crafter, and choose Weapon Attuning. This option allows to reroll all your traits from one category into random ones. This is a bit dangerous, as if you have a few traits you like, rerolling everything is pretty much sabotaging yourself. Heroic & Master traits are the most important, and usually there is one or two BiS master traits you really one and one or two Heroic trats. Once you've a really strong Trait, don't waste it in a reroll!

You can find attuning materials in the different crafting boxes at the material vendors. But once you go even further beyond, you can find way to upgrade traits.

Upgrading Weapon Traits in Fellowship

In the Weapon Tree, you can find a second tab used to upgrade your weapon traits. Each time you upgrade a weapon trait, it usually just make its proc and its base stats better. But, if you've reached Champion & early Paragon, this tab might be inactive for a while.

Most of the weapons with traits that can be upgraded will be found in late Paragon and Eternal, and each upgrade costs at least 1.000 gold, with highest tier upgrade reaching 4.000 gold. So this is not a priority, usually you'll spend this gold only if you have nothing else to do.
