The Mage Phase 4 Best in Slot (BiS) list for Classic Anniversary adds ZG to the loot pool, and while considered a catch-up raid, there’s a good few items here.
Welcome to the Method Mage Best-in-slot gear guide for Phase 4 of WoW Classic Anniversary. This guide aims to give you an overview of the best items you can acquire during Phase 4.
Phase 4 serves primarily as a catch-up patch for many classes. Outside of the new enchants, for Mages we are looking at just one major upgrade to our BiS list from Phase 3. However, this Phase does give us more time to focus on items we have missed, as the patch will likely be around for the next two months.
The list below will feature the absolute best if you plan to do all forms of PvE content.
Note: Some PvP items, such as those in Rank 12+, are very good alternatives. If they are BiS we will mention them in the alternative BiS below. Our focus here is on gear you can get from drops. This will go equally for crafting gear.
Mage Phase 4 Best-in-slot
Pro Tip: If you plan to play Fire Mage, you can look to get 8/8 Tier 2 and then use the below list for the other slots.
Notes:
- Robe of the Archmage is the BiS chest if you can make it
- Zanzil's Seal and Zanzil's Band are a good option for rings, but work best when you have the set
- Jin'do's Bag of Whammies is ideal if not playing Frost
- Touch of Chaos for those not playing Frost or don't want to farm World Bosses

Best Talent Build for Mage DPS in Phase 4
There are a few options for us when it comes to the best talent builds we can use. The first of these is an Arcane/Frost-focused build and should be the standard build.
Next up is the Winter's Chill talent build. One person in your raid will likely be asked to go this spec, though it will be at the cost of your own overall DPS.
Lastly, we have a pure Single Target Fire build and an AOE alternative. For the Single Target build, Improved Fire Blast and Incinerate are two key talents that we need. For the AoE build, Improved Flamestrike is the most important extra change we need to make.
Pro tip: To play Fire Mage, you need to aim for 8/8 Tier 2:
- 3 Set: Reduces the threat generated by your Scorch, Arcane Missiles, Fireball, and Frostbolt spells.
- 5 Set: Increases the radius of Arcane Explosion, Flamestrike, and Blizzard by 25%.
- 8 Set: 10% chance after casting Arcane Missiles, Fireball, or Frostbolt that your next spell with a casting time under 10 seconds cast instantly.
Best Mage Consumables for Raiding
For Mage, the majority of consumables are all about doing as much damage as possible. We've included a number of consumables below. Thanks to the high price of Black Lotus, a few of these are fairly expensive. The rest of the list is fairly ok, however, so there are plenty of things to look for. If you want to look at the full list of consumables, including world buffs and enchants, then our full consumables list is for you.
Best Consumables
Consume Type | Name | Why it's good |
