Raid Setup
Introduction
Welcome to our Supremus guide, the second boss of the Black Temple raid in The Burning Crusade Phase 3. This guide covers the fight mechanics and the strategy we recommend to defeat this boss!
Supremus guards the entrance to the Black Temple, and is a colossal fire demon who will stop at nothing from preventing your team from entering the sacred temple. This fight will focus on players reaction time and avoiding fire and Supremus himself.
This fight is like a combination of Naxxramas’s Patchwerk and Tempest Keep’s Kael’thas’s Advisory phase with Thaladred, except with a LOT more fire. Hateful Strike, Fixate, and volcanos, and trails of fire. Survive the chaos and you’ll defeat the guardian of the Black Temple.
Fight Style: Single Target fight with consistent fire damage and Fixate
Recommended Setup: 2-3x Tank /5x Healer / 17-18x DPS
Required utilities: Healthstones and Personal Damage Reductions
Hero/Lust usage: Phase 1 after pull
Method Boss Review
This second boss is not too particularly challenging, but the raid damage is intense and fast, especially in Phase 2, and can lead to quick deaths.
As a second boss, it’s accessible to raid teams to keep progressing, and similar to Naj’entus, it’s a little more interactive for the healers, as they have to make sure all 3 tanks are kept up from heavy damage.
The fixate phase is a lot of “dodge bad”, and although it isn’t too hard, it’s a good check on who’s actually looking at their monitor when playing Classic WoW.

Video Guide
Easy Mode
This is a 2 phase fight each lasting 1 minute. First phase is a 2-3 tank fight as the boss has a Patchwerk style Hateful Strike, with the rest of the raid having to avoid fire trails. Phase 2 is a Fixate phase, where Supremus will Fixate random players for a minute, while players will continue to dodge more fire on the ground.
Phase 1:
- Tank the boss where he’s at, facing away from the raid. 1-2 off-tanks will need to be 2nd and 3rd on threat to soak Hateful Strike.
- Make sure off-tanks are healed before the next Hateful Strike goes out.
- Move out of the trailing Molten Flame.
Phase 2:
- Stay out of melee range of Supremus as he Fixates random players.
- Dodge Volcanic Geyser that spawn.
- When Phase 2 ends, Phase 1 will start again, with a full threat reset in between.
Mechanics
Hateful Strike
Supremus strikes the next target with the highest threat and highest health, dealing 27,750 to 32,350 unmitigated damage to that target.
Molten Flame
A trail of fire spawns, picking a random target and creates a trail of fire in their initial spot for 10 seconds, also leaving that trail of fire on the ground for an additional 10 seconds. Deals 3,325 to 3,675 Fire damage while in it.
Fixate
Supremus fixates random targets in the raid, chasing them down and dealing massive physical damage if he gets within melee range of them. If players are 40 or more yards away from Supremus, he gains a 100% speed boost.
Volcanic Geyser
Volcanoes spawn throughout the area, spewing fireballs that deal 4,163 to 4,837 fire damage to anyone hit by them. 15 yard range.
Strategy
Supremus is a 2 phase fight with each phase lasting one minute. Phase 1 will require at least 2 tanks to soak the Hateful Strike to prevent melee DPS from getting killed by it, while Phase 2 is when Supremus will Fixate on players and try to kill them if he reaches them. When Phase 2 is over, threat is reset, and we go back to Phase 1.
Phase 1
Have your ranged spread across the area, with melee loosely spread to avoid multiple people getting hit by Molten Flame. To establish threat for properly distributed Hateful Strike, have your Hunter’s Misdirect all tanks to make sure they are the top 3 in threat. When Molten Flame goes out, players only need to strafe left or right to avoid it, as it only goes in a straight line.
Three things to get right here:
- Make sure all tanks are top threat and have full health to avoid melee DPS from getting hit with Hateful Strike.
- Tanks should gear towards Mitigation, Survivability, and Avoidance, as the boss hits pretty hard.
- Dodge the fire; it’s really slow, really blue, and it’s not hard to miss.

Hateful Strike
Around every 10 seconds, Supremus will cast his Hateful Strike; healers need to make sure that the Hateful soaker is healed to full before the next one goes out, while also not divvying off too many heals from the main tank. If running 5 healers, have 3-4 heals on the MT while 1-2 swap to the Hateful tank.
Molten Flame
A trailing fire picks a target and chases in their initial direction for 10 seconds. Move left or right to avoid it, and be aware that it lasts for 10 seconds.
During the last 5 seconds of Phase 1, melee should spread to prepare for the Fixate phase.
Phase 2
Players should focus on survival during this phase versus getting extra damage in, especially melee players. Every 6 or so seconds, Supremus will target a player and fixate them, dealing massive damage to them if he gets within melee range. Supremus moves slower than 100% speed, allowing players to outrun him, unless they are more than 40 yards away, as he’ll gain a speed boost.
Two things to get right here:
- Do not be too far or too close from Supremus during his Fixate.
- Move away from spawning Volcanic Geyser as soon as they spawn to avoid fire damage.
Fixate
Supremus’s target circle is much bigger than it should be on TBC Anniversary, and although he LOOKS huge, his model is actually smaller than it seems. You should aim to be right by his target circle as the “sweet spot” to not be too far or too close.
Volcanic Geyser
Inexperienced players should focus on surviving this phase rather than applying more damage to the boss. Geysers spawn and will immediately shoot out their fireballs, so move ASAP if it spawns near you. There is no DPS check or race here, only dodge mechanics.
After one minute, Phase 1 will start again, and Supremus will reset on threat.
