What’s New for Mistweaver Monks in Mists of Pandaria Classic

In this section of the class & spec guide, we tend to discuss what’s new in Mists of Pandaria for said class or specialization. However, Monks are the brand-new class for the expansion, so everything is new. Here’s a quick introduction instead.

The Monk Class is the third Energy / Combo point class in World of Warcraft. It’s an Agility (and Intellect) Class and uses leather armor, like its counterparts. It’s a hybrid class with 3 specializations: Windwalker (Melee DPS), Mistweaver (Healer) and Brewmaster (Tank).

Regarding Mistweaver, as a healing specialization, you will lose the energy part of the class and get your mana back through Stance of the Wise Serpent. This healer is the first healer to really get out of the classic healer design of World of Warcraft and is very fun to play, but can be hard to master as it has a lot of unique ways to be played.

Is Mistweaver Monk Good?

Yes, the class as a whole is strong and Mistweaver is a good healing spec. Gameplay wise, it’s one of the funnest spec to play and will be an absolute blast once you master the basics and balance wise, it’s one of the more versatile healers in the game. It deals good damage, has strong single target and AoE healing, and isn’t limited by its range. The worst part of the Mistweaver is its lack of a powerful raid cooldown to help with mitigation, Revival is a strong raid wide heal, but not a strong mitigation cooldown.

Best Talents & Glyphs for Mistweaver Monk in MoP Classic

With the new revamped talents, we will provide you with 2 talent builds. One for raiding and one for Dungeons. We will also go through those two builds, but they will have the flexibility to change a lot more depending on the group size and what encounter you are in.

Mistweaver Monk Raiding Talent Build

This is a standard Mistweaver raiding talent build, but should change based on how stacked your group can be.

If your raid can stay stacked for most of the fight, using Chi Torpedo with the added cast from Celerity is great, and Chi Burst if it can hit most targets is a good healing tool.

If you can’t have a stacked group, or you play in small rooms, you will want to let Chi Torpedo go and take Rushing Jade Wind. With Chi Torpedo gone, you can swap Celerity for Tiger’s Lust. You also want to get rid of Chi Burst for Chi Wave.

Regarding the other talents, Chi Brew is the best solution all around in raid, Leg Sweep can be swapped with Ring of Peace depending on the fight, and Diffuse Magic is the better mitigation tool.

Best Mistweaver Monk Raid Glyphs

Regarding Major Glyphs, you will want to obtain Glyph of Renewing Mists, Glyph of Zen Meditation and Glyph of Touch of Death (or Glyph of Expel Harm).

There are very few good Minor Glyphs, the ones worth noting are Glyph of Spirit Roll, Glyph of Water Roll.

Mistweaver Monk Dungeons & Challenge Mode Talent Build

The Dungeon Build relies on the same logic as the raiding build. Chi Burst is very valuable in Dungeons, as it can deal a pretty good amount of damage. Chi Torpedo can be very weird to use in very small rooms and dungeon situations, so I tend to prefer Rushing Jade Wind. You can also swap Chi Brew for Ascension if you find yourself spending all your time in Melee range Fistweaving.

Best Mistweaver Monk Dungeon Glyphs

Regarding Major Glyphs, you will want to obtain Glyph of Spinning Crane Kick, Glyph of Touch of Death (only in raids not in open world), and Glyph of Touch of Karma.

Other options are Glyph of Zen Meditation, Glyph of Fortuitous Sphere and that’s pretty much it.

There are very few good Minor Glyphs, the ones worth noting are Glyph of Spirit Roll, Glyph of Water Roll.

Rotation for Mistweaver Monk in MoP Classic

Talking about a Rotation for Healers isn't really effective, so this part of the guide will mostly talk about spell usages, what to do in dire situations and how to maximize healing.

During combat, you will want to stay in Stance of the Wise serpent for the whole fight. You can do a bit of stance Weaving with Stance of the Fierce Tiger when playing Rushing Jade Wind in order to cast Rushing Jade wind for free but we don’t recommend that if you aren’t already familiar with the basics of Mistweaver.

Before pull, place your Jade Serpent Statue close to the targets you want to heal the most. During the fight, you want to spend most of your time in melee range.

When you need to heal, use Soothing mist to generate Chi and heal your targets. While using Soothing mist, Surging mist is instant. Use it to do burst healing and generate more Chi. Enveloping Mist is also instant during Soothing mist and is a great way to get single target healing and to spend Chi.

Your AoE Healing will come from Renewing Mist, Uplift and Thunder Focus Tea. Place Renewing Mist on different targets, it will jump around. Then, use Thunder Focus Tea to increase the power of Uplift. Uplift normally heals all allies affected by Renewing Mist, but with Thunder Focus Tea, it also resets the duration of Renewing Mist on all targets. When Thunder Focus Tea isn’t available, Uplift is a great source of instant AoE Healing.

For even more AoE healing, maintain Rushing Jade Wind if talented, use Chi Burst and Chi Wave on Cooldown, and Chi Torpedo if talented whenever you feel the need to heal everyone instantly. If you need mana, use Mana Tea. If you need more Mana tea stacks or/and more chi, use Chi brew. In dangerous situations, use Revival to save the whole group and Life cocoon to save a single target.

During the whole fight, you won’t be casting Soothing Mist non-stop. You also have to hit your target in melee, to keep up some buffs and debuffs.

  1. Maintain Serpent Zeal up with Blackout kick.
  2. Maintain Tiger Power with Tiger palm.
  3. Cast Tiger Palm to consume Muscle Memory.
  4. Use Jab to generate Chi. Use Spinning Crane Kick with 3+ targets.

Best Gear & Stats for Mistweaver Monk in MoP Classic

Best in Slot (BiS Gear) aren’t as big in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Reforging is the new hype, so you can tailor your gear better than before.

The gear you should aim for are: Trinkets, & Tier Sets.

The best pre-raid trinkets are:

MoP Classic Mistweaver Monk Stat Priority

Reaching your Hit or Expertise cap can be a good thing as a Mistweaver as you will hit quite a lot, but it’s not as much a priority as other secondary stats.

After that, it goes: Critical Strike and Haste, then Intellect, then Mastery, then Spirit, then Haste again in that order. As you can see, Haste is written twice: Mistweaver monks have very precise haste caps. You need at least 3145 haste to get a new tick for Renewing mist, or 4717 if you don't have the 5% haste buff in your group, and 6141 haste (counting raid buffs) to get 2 new ticks. After that, you can get a third one with 9158 haste but it’s not as valuable as the first two. So: Crit first, Haste to reach one or two soft caps, and then the other stats.
