Blacksmithing in WoW Forever: 1-300 Leveling Guide & Trainers

Blacksmithing in WoW Forever: 1-300 Leveling Guide & Trainers

Written by Old Guardian - 6th November 2026

Blacksmithing is the primary crafting profession in World of Warcraft Forever for creating Plate armor and weapons.

Like other professions, Blacksmithing has been improved considerably from what it was in vanilla and Classic WoW. Many low-level items have been upgraded to actually be useful and you are able to create Rare-quality bind-on-pickup leveling gear for yourself.

Overall, the number of blacksmithing recipes has been increased by around 50%, providing many more options and gear for specs that the profession supported poorly in the past.

Note: End-game Mail recipes have been moved from Blacksmithing to Leatherworking. There are still some leveling Mail recipes.

Blacksmithing Training and Ranks in WoW Forever

You generally want to level up Blacksmithing while you are leveling your character to benefit from the gear that you craft as you go. At the very highest levels, Blacksmithing becomes expensive to level, and your path in the high 200s depends heavily on reagent availability and the recipes you are able to acquire.

Blacksmithing consists of four skill ranks. Each trainer can teach all ranks that are below their skill level.

Blacksmithing Rank Skill Range Skill Needed Character Level
Apprentice 1-75 0 No requirements
Journeyman 75-150 Blacksmithing 50 10
Expert 150-225 Blacksmithing 125 20
Artisan 225-300 Blacksmithing 200 35

Blacksmithing Materials Shopping List

A blacksmith’s tool of the trade is a Blacksmith Hammer, and the primary materials you will be working with are bars of metal that are provided by the gathering profession Mining.

This shopping list provides you with all the materials you need to level up your Blacksmithing.

Blacksmithing Shopping List: 1 - 75

Blacksmithing Shopping List: 75 - 150

Blacksmithing Shopping List: 150 - 225

Blacksmithing Shopping List: 225 - 300

Work In Progress: This will be updated as we learn more information about the higher-end Blacksmithing Recipes.

Apprentice Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 1-75

Apprentice Blacksmithing means largely working with stones, and the Grinding Stones you produce will then be used as crafting reagents later.

Leveling 1-25

25-30 x Rough Sharpening Stone, 15 / 35 / 55, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 25-50

25-30 x Rough Grinding Stone, 25 / 45 / 65 / 85, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 50-70

40-60 x Coarse Grinding Stone, 50 / 62 / 75, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 70-75

5 x Runed Copper Belt, 45 / 85 / 105 / 125, learned from the Trainer

Quest (Alliance): The quest Gearing Redridge requires 4 x Runed Copper Belt. (Alongside 4 x Heavy Copper Maul 40 / 80 / 100 / 120 - 12 x Copper Bar, 2 x Weak Flux, 2 x Light Leather each)

OR

5 x Rough Bronze Boots, 70 / 100 / 115 / 130, learned from the Trainer

Journeyman Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 75-150

Journeyman Blacksmithing begins with copper and moves on to bronze and potentially iron depending on the ore prices.

Leveling 75-85

10 x Runed Copper Belt, 45 / 85 / 105 / 125, learned from the Trainer

OR if Bronze is cheap:

75-80 with 5 x Rough Bronze Boots, 70 / 100 / 115 / 130, learned from the Trainer

and 80-85 with 5 x Rough Bronze Leggings, 80 / 120 / 135 / 150, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 85-95

10 x Rough Bronze Leggings, 80 / 120 / 135 / 150, learned from the Trainer

This is the cheapest Bronze item up to 95.

Leveling 95-100

5 x Patterned Bronze Bracers, 95 / 125 / 140 / 155, learned from the Trainer

This is an even cheaper Bronze item that becomes available at 95.

Quest (Horde): The quest Barbaric Battlements requires 2 x Patterned Bronze Bracers. (Alongside 2 x Bronze Greatsword 105 / 135 / 150 / 165 and 2 x Sharp Claw).

Leveling 100-115

30 x Heavy Grinding Stone, 100 / 112 / 125, learned from the Trainer

You may only need 20 for the levels, but you will need 30 for crafting later. Goes grey at 125: if you want to continue all the way there, you need to craft around 100 x Heavy Grinding Stone.

Leveling 115-125

10 x Patterned Bronze Bracers, 95 / 125 / 140 / 155, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 125-150

25 x Bronze Warhammer, 100 / 155 / 170 / 185, learned from the Trainer

Bronze Warhammer is the last Bronze item to give skill gains. It goes yellow only at 155. This is not in line with the other Bronze items, so it may be changed at some point.

Quest (Horde): The quest On Iron Pauldrons requires 4 x Bronze Warhammer. (Alongside 4 x Bronze Battle Axe 110 / 140 / 155 / 170)

OR

125-130 with 5 x Golden Rod, 125 / 130 / 132 / 135, learned from the Trainer

Every Enchanter needs one Golden Rod. If there is demand for these when you are leveling, it is possible to grab a few gains for free or even at a profit.

130-140 with 10 x Bronze Battle Axe, 110 / 140 / 155 / 170, learned from the Trainer

140-150 with 10 x Green Iron Bracers, 140 / 165 / 177 / 190, learned from the Trainer

Expert Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 150-225

Expert Blacksmithing uses mostly Iron, Steel, and Mithril.

Leveling 150-155

5 x Bronze Warhammer, 100 / 155 / 170 / 185, learned from the Trainer

OR

150-155 with 5 x Green Iron Bracers, 140 / 165 / 177 / 190, learned from the Trainer

You can buy Green Dye from Tailoring and Leatherworking vendors. If Iron is cheap, this can be better than sticking to Bronze.

Leveling 155-160

5 x Green Iron Bracers, 140 / 165 / 177 / 190, learned from the Trainer

You can buy Green Dye from Tailoring and Leatherworking vendors.

Leveling 160-175

15 x Golden Scale Bracers, 160 / 168 / 197 / 210, learned from the Trainer

Quest (Alliance): The Alliance Armorsmith quest The Origins Of Smithing requires 6 x Golden Scale Bracers

Leveling 175-185

30-40 x Solid Grinding Stone, 175 / 180 / 185, learned from the Trainer

On average, you need to craft 7 x Solid Grinding Stone to reach 180 and 30 x Solid Grinding Stone to reach 185.

Leveling 185-200

15 x Heavy Mithril Gauntlet, 180 / 200 / 210 / 220, learned from the Trainer

Leveling 200-210

10 x Steel Plate Helm, 190 / 210 / 220 / 230, learned from the Trainer

Quest (Horde): The quest The Old Ways requires 4 x Steel Plate Helm. (alongside 4 x Steel Breastplate 175 / 200 / 212 / 225).

Leveling 210-225

15 x Mithril Coif, 205 / 225 / 235 / 245, learned from the Trainer in Booty Bay

The trainer recipe alternative to reach 225. Another trainer recipe alternative is the Heavy Mithril Breastplate 205 / 225 / 235 / 245, which replaces the Mageweave Cloth with even more Mithril Bar and takes 16 x Mithril Bar each.

OR

15 x Mithril Spurs, 210 / 235 / 240 / 250, World Drop recipe

Mithril Spurs is by far the cheapest item to craft to 225, but because it is a world drop recipe, the recipe itself may cost too much or be unavailable.

Artisan Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 225-300

If you thought Blacksmithing was expensive before, you actually have not seen anything yet. Artisan is the final stretch, and the last bits are tedious.

Before launch, we still don't know the ways to acquire several high-end Blacksmithing recipes, and many of the adjusted recipes have not yet been seen in-game, which may affect the optimal route as the minimum skill and character level needed to acquire them, as well as their final skill gain potential, is confirmed. Calculating a shopping list is not possible at this time.

Leveling 225-235

15-30 x Dense Sharpening Stone, 225 / 230 / 232 / 235, learned from the Trainer in Booty Bay

Dense Grinding Stone is only used in a few crafts, so it is better to opt for the cheaper Dense Sharpening Stone instead.

Before launch, there have been some concerns whether the recipe is now available at 225 as the skill requirement indicates (lowered from Classic). Continuing to 235 with Mithril Coif is an option.

Leveling 235-245

15-30 x Heavy Mithril Boots, 210 / 230 / 240 / 250, learned from the Trainer in Booty Bay

One of the last trainer recipes and Mithril recipes that can still give you gains.

The recipe goes grey at 250, but the last green points are so hard to get that it is not worth pushing through it all unless you have no other option.

Leveling 250-270

20-40 x Blight, 250 / 262 / 275, learned from the Trainer

Blight looks like a highly desirable BoE weapon in WoW Forever. If there is a market, it can be a reasonable way to improve your skill. Before launch, it is uncertain if Blight will require the Weaponsmith specialization in WoW Forever.

It takes on average 22 x Blight to reach 265 and 38 x Blight to reach 270. The recipe goes grey at 275, but the last green points often require 10+ crafts each.

The Thorium World Drop set

The requirements for the Thorium set have changed in WoW Forever. As the final values get confirmed in-game, the Thorium set could be one of the main pathways to level through one or more parts of Artisan.

225-250, 25 x Thorium Belt, 225 / 250 / 255 / 265 (preliminary)

230-255, 25 x Thorium Bracers, 230 / 255 / 260 / 270 (preliminary)

255-285, 30 x Thorium Boots, 255 / 280 / 285 / 295 (preliminary)

275-300, 25 x Thorium Leggings, 275 / 300 / 305 / 315 (preliminary)

Ornate Mithril and Imperial Plate sets

The acquisition of Ornate Mithril and Imperial Plate recipes in WoW Forever is not yet clear. These sets can potentially offer paths up to 255 (Ornate Mithril) and 300 (Imperial Plate), although their maximum skill gains may have been reduced. The recipes came from Blacksmithing quests in vanilla.

Scholomance recipes

The weapon recipes sold by Magnus Frostwake may help you with gains starting from 230 (Ebon Shiv), 250 (Ornate Thorium Handaxe), and 255 (Huge Thorium Battleaxe).

However, Magnus Frostwake is dead, and you can only see him after completing a number of quests in Scholomance, a level 60 dungeon.

Best Professions To Pair With Blacksmithing In WoW Forever

If you are looking for a double crafting profession setup, Engineering can be an excellent choice to go with Blacksmithing because it uses many of the same raw materials and it has lots of uses in PvP, and Alchemy is always strong for potions and transmutes.

In WoW Forever, professions also craft some intermediary materials for each other, but Mining remains by far your most important source of raw materials and a viable option for a second profession if you prefer to gather reagents yourself instead of buying them from the auction house.
