Why Should You Play WoW Forever Together?
There is no pressing need for you to play in a group while leveling. Ad hoc groups formed for dungeons and elite quests are perfectly capable, and they are even the fastest way to level up when combined with effective solo questing. That said, playing in a group (co-op) is a viable alternative, so there is no reason to shy away from it either.
Pros
- Much easier to find Dungeon groups if you have a tank and/or healer
- Able to attempt more challenging pulls
- Able to complete elite quests without searching for helps
Cons
- XP is shared so you will be required to kill more mobs
- Quest drops are mostly not shared so these quests can be time consuming
Don't Forget... the main reason to play in a group is to have fun and enjoy the game with people you know.
WoW Forever does include multiple changes to playing as a group compared to vanilla and classic, which make the experience better.
Changes to Leveling as a Party in WoW Forever
There's a few key improvements being made to leveling as a party in WoW Forever.
Are Quest Item Drops Shared In WoW Forever?
A direct change to improve the group experience is how collection quest loot is handled. For the most part, all players in the party still cannot loot the quest items at the same time, but the system is now far less random.
Party members with fewer quest items have improved odds to get quest items as loot, which results in the party completing the quest roughly at the same time. No more getting your 10/10 while your friend or partner is stuck at 3/10!
Devs were asked if they could make all quest items shared loot on a podcast on October 22, and they did not take a firm stance on the topic. It is something that may still happen, and that would make co-op leveling even better.
More Quests
WoW Forever also significantly increases the number of quests in the world. Many quest chains that were abruptly cut now have follow-up quests, and these have been added to all levels. There are now up to a third more quests in the game compared to vanilla and classic.
This is great news for group leveling, because a group needed to stop to grind some mobs or to move to the other side of the world to continue questing far more often than a solo player did.
Easier To Get Together
It is also easier than ever to start together all the way from level 1. There are new world travel routes that make travel from one starting zone to another much easier. For Alliance Night Elves, there is no need to do a corpse run across Wetlands anymore to join your friends!
There have also been changes to dungeon XP, and these can help or hurt group leveling, depending on your exact plan. Dungeon XP from quests has been increased, whereas dungeon XP from mobs has been decreased. This means that you really want to do each dungeon once when you have a bunch of quests for it, but grinding XP in repeated dungeon runs is not that effective.
Tips for Leveling as a Group in WoW Forever
While you can succeed with any combination of characters, there are some things you may want to consider to make your leveling journey smoother.
Consider A Dedicated Alt Group
If your playtime is different, and somebody grinds to five levels ahead of the others, the group does not function. It is much better to have them play another character if they want to play more. With Legacy points up for grabs, and alts being an effective way to get them, this is some of that sweet horizontal progression for their account!
Schedules Proving Problematic? Create separate characters that are dedicated to playing together.
Best Party Combinations In WoW Forever
It is also a good idea to choose classes that wear different armor types. The more armor type coverage you have, the more useful loot you will get when nothing goes to waste. Crafting professions can also create useful bind-on-pickup gear while leveling, so only the crafter can use it. By spreading your armor classes around, you can also more easily get different professions.
Having someone who can tank and someone who can heal can help with group quests and dungeons. An off-spec is fine, you can roam around as damage dealers and then swap into other roles as needed. Bonus points if you bring a lineup with multiple hybrid classes so you can also switch up who takes turns tanking or healing
Example Party Combinations
Some example combinations for a three-man party:
- Warrior/Paladin + Druid + Mage/Warlock (plate/leather/cloth with some flexibility and a pure dps class)
- Paladin + Shaman + Druid (the only full hybrid team with no overlapping armor types - plate/mail/leather team where everyone can tank, heal, and deal damage)
- Warrior/Paladin + Hunter/Shaman + Priest (plate/mail/cloth)
Some other alternatives include:
- Classes that all have increased movement speed at level 20: Druid, Shaman, Hunter (that would be leather/mail/mail though)
- Everyone rolling Tauren for Plainsrunning - faster movement all the way from level 1
- Warlock + healer or Warrior + healer, making use of the classes that can go on and on as long as they get healing
