Where Are the Secret Landing Locations in Doom: The Dark Ages?

Written by The Old One - 23rd May 2025

Doom: The Dark Ages does not hold back when it comes to over-the-top action, but Chapter 5 truly takes things up a notch by letting you mount a cyborg dragon and fight airborne in the Holy City of Aratum. The chapter also features an optional challenge called Layover that you can complete for some bonus rewards.

To complete the challenge, you'll have to find two secret dragon landing zones situated within the city. While it may seem like a tall task given everything else that’s happening in the chapter, the location of the two landing spots isn't too difficult to find. In this guide, we'll point you in the right direction to help you locate them quickly to complete the mission.

Secret Landing Zone #1 – Tower Left of the City

Right after you finish the flying tutorial and enter the main city area, turn left. You'll spot a tall tower in the distance with a Titan perched on top. This is your first target. Take out the Titan from the air while dodging its energy blasts. Once it's down, you'll see a green arrow appear on the ground, marking it as a valid spot to land your dragon.

This landing spot holds a Gore Nest that you can destroy with your Shield Charge. But as soon as you do, a wave of demons will spawn, forcing you into a fight. After defeating all the enemies, you'll be rewarded with a Demonic Essence to boost your maximum health, along with some Gold you can use for weapon upgrades.

Secret Landing Zone #2 – Below the Central Garden

The second landing zone isn't too far from the first one. After mounting your dragon from the first landing spot, head towards the objective marker. You'll notice a circular garden hanging over a pit. Dive down, and you'll find two more Titans standing on separate pillars. Try to bait and eliminate them one at a time to unlock the second secret landing spot for the mission.

The second landing zone contains a Ruby and some extra Gold, along with the Nightmare Skin for the Pulverizer. You can also get a Red Keycard by solving a nearby puzzle to access some secret areas later on in the chapter.

Layover Challenge Rewards

The Layover Challenge will count as complete the moment you use the second secret landing zone. As a reward, you'll get 50 Gold. That, combined with all the loot picked up from the two landing sites, gives you a solid boost to upgrade the Slayer. Make sure to complete this challenge early, however, since you won't be able to go back once you reach the point of no return.
