Wildcard slot is a special army bonus slot in Warcraft Rumble that provides the bonus levels regardless of the traits the mini in the slot has.
Wildcard slots are earned by defeating the third boss in the normal Siege of Stormwind (Highlord Bolvar) and Siege of Ironforge (King Magni). With the current co-op rotation, you get one Wildcard slot every four weeks.
When you earn a Wildcard slot, you can use it on any Leader that you own, not just the one you used to defeat the boss. If you leave the selection screen, you can come back to it later, but you cannot progress to Heroic Siege without choosing the Wildcard slot Leader.
Each Leader can only have one Wildcard slot, and it always replaces the static trait slot on the top right of the Leader’s army board.
So, which Leaders are the best Wildcard slot targets?
There are three main aspects to consider:
- Gaps in the Leader’s bonus slots: many Leaders cannot buff all minis in the game
- Specific armies: even if a Leader can buff every mini in your army, it may not be able to buff them all at the same time, and a Wildcard slot can help with that
- PvP: If you play PvP, the strongest PvP Leaders may be more attractive to improve
Gaps in the Leader’s Bonus Slots
Here is a list of all the Leaders in the game, gaps in their bonus slots, and their original top-right slot trait that a Wildcard slot replaces.
Some of the most notable gaps are:
- Rend, Ragnaros, and Anub’arak missing a Spell slot, and thus unable to buff various spells (depending on family and other traits)
- Sneed, Cairne, Grommash, Orgrim Doomhammer, Baron Rivendare, and Hogger missing a Tank slot, and thus unable to buff many of the bigger tank minis in the game
- Maiev and Sylvanas missing both Ranged and Elemental slots, and thus unable to buff many ranged minis

Specific Armies
Even if a Leader can buff all the minis in its army, it might not be able to do so at the same time. This, of course, is more meta-dependent, and the requirements may change over time.
Charlga is a good example of a Leader who can buff a wide variety of minis, but her Fast slot can sometimes hold her back because it is quite narrow and sometimes you do not want any Fast minis in your army.
Likewise, the Tank slot on Malfurion, Cenarius, and Tirion can sometimes be an obstacle.
The Squad slot on Grommash Hellscream and Orgrim Doomhammer is also occasionally awkward, as is the Unbound slot on Baron Rivendare.
PvP
Many PvP armies rely on Wildcard slots, so meta PvP Leaders are good ones to upgrade. However, the top Leaders depend on balance patches and on the rotating PvP modifiers, so these will also change over time.
Even Leaders like Arthas, Jaina, and Bloodmage Thalnos may benefit from a Wildcard slot for specific PvP armies.
Top 10 Best Leaders for a Wild Card slot
Combining the above factors, here are my top-10 recommendations for Leaders you want to use a Wildcard slot on:
- Rend Blackhand (missing many spells)
- Orgrim Doomhammer (Squad slot is weak, no Tank slot)
- Arthas (PvP flexibility)
- Grommash Hellscream (Squad slot is weak, no Tank slot)
- Anub’arak (missing Execute)
- Ragnaros (missing multiple spells)
- Charlga (Fast slot is sometimes useless)
- Malfurion (separate Tank slot is not always needed)
- Baron Rivendare (no Tank slot and Unbound slot is not always useful)
- Sneed (no Tank slot)
