The Secrets of Thrall and the Best Thrall Talents

Written by Old Guardian - 14th June 2025

Thrall is a Horde Leader mini that was added to Warcraft Rumble on June 11, 2025. In this article, I will reveal all of its secrets and the details on how Thrall's abilities and talents really work, as well as what are the best talents to choose for Thrall.

Thrall is the seasonal mini for season 15. This means that Thrall will become available on the Grid in season 16, roughly six weeks from his debut. As a Horde Leader, he will only be available on the Grid during Horde weeks. Before season 16, the only ways to acquire Thrall are to get him from the Horde Family event (19 stars available) or from paid bundles from the store.

Thrall Details

  • Horde
  • 4 gold
  • Ranged, One-Target, Elemental, Tank, Detect
  • 1500 Health
  • 2 Movement speed (Medium)

Thanks to Detect, Thrall can attack minis in Stealth. He cannot let your other minis attack them though. He needs to get a hit in first, because getting hit removes Stealth.

Thrall has one melee attack:

  • 180 physical damage
  • 1.8 seconds attack speed
  • Melee range
  • After two melee swings, Thrall gains one charge for his ground Chain Lightning

Thrall also has two ranged Chain Lightning attacks: he can always cast his Chain Lightning on flying minis, and he also has another version of it that can be cast on ground minis. That version starts with one charge, and recharges after two melee swings. Other than that, the two Chain Lightning attacks are identical.

  • 125 Elemental damage
  • 1.7 seconds attack speed
  • 8 range
  • Bounces up to 2 additional targets within a range of 6
  • Note that Thrall's Chain Lightning is similar to the spell, but has many differences in details: lower damage, fewer bounces, and longer bounce range

He has a powerful aura called Warchief's Presence:

  • All nearby Horde and Elemental (damage type) allies get +20% damage
  • All nearby Horde and Elemental (damage type) allies get Resistance (-50% Elemental damage taken)
  • 6 radius from Thrall
  • Does not buff Thrall, but having a second Thrall nearby makes the Thralls buff each other
  • Minis gain the benefits when they get to within a range of 6 from Thrall, and lose them when they move further away
  • Note that 6 radius may be too short to buff some ranged minis at the backline
  • S.A.F.E. Pilot crash damage is not buffed; the mini has not yet entered the area when it crashes

Thrall Talents

Like all minis, Thrall has three available talents. The in-game descriptions don't tell you everything about them, so let's examine each in detail.

Feral Spirit

Up to twice per deploy, summons 2 Feral Spirits at 50% health. If you can heal Thrall back up, you can get a second set! There is a counter that keeps track of it so that you cannot get more.

The summoned spirits are Spirit Wolves:

  • 700 health
  • 4 movement speed (Fast)
  • Bite: 100 Elemental damage, 0.9 seconds attack speed, 1.5 range, hits ground minis only
  • Dash: 100 Elemental damage, 6 range charge
  • Taunt: 10 seconds duration, 1.5 range, single use

Because the Wolves Taunt as they arrive, there is a good chance for you to heal Thrall back up with a healer or a healing spell.

Totemic Mastery

Summons a Totem at his location and a new one every 10 seconds. Each Totem lasts for 10 seconds, so each Thrall has one Totem active at a time.

There are four different totems and Thrall cycles through the list. There seem to be some inconsistencies with the cycle so far, we'll see what the final one will be. Multiple Thralls cycle through the same list, so you will always get different Totems.

The four Totems are:

  • Windfury: +25% attack speed to allies map-wide
  • Searing: 25 Elemental damage to an enemy within a radius of 6 every second
  • Healing: 25 healing per second to allies map-wide
  • Earthbind: -25% movement speed to enemies map-wide

Call of the Horde

Gain Bloodlust for 5 seconds and pulses lightning whenever a Horde ally is deployed.

Thrall is the one who gains the effects, and playing any Horde mini counts, including spells.

Lightning:

  • 200 Elemental damage
  • 6 radius
  • Hits both ground and flying minis
  • Cannot hit Barracks

The Best Thrall Talents

My first pick is Feral Spirit because the Wolves are very strong. It is also the top PvP talent.

The other two talents are less impressive, but my second pick is Totemic Mastery. Three of the Totems have global effects, and if you can get more than one Thrall on the board, you will have multiple Totems active at all times. Searing Totem is quite bad, so you cannot get constant value, but a small edge that becomes bigger the more Thralls you have alive still helps.

This leaves Call of the Horde last. It is hard to use effectively because you need Horde minis, and most of them are not cheap. The ideal scenario is again multiple Thralls and then multiple Horde minis to really blast with lightning, but that requires a highly specific deck construction. If Horde ever gets a one-gold mini, this talent could become much more valuable.
