While the first Control game was known as an action-adventure shooter, Control Resonant takes an action-RPG approach, including switching from shooter to melee combat mechanics.
To complement this melee style, at the start of the game you can choose between primary and secondary Aberrant Form weapons. The primary will focus on quick attacks, and the secondary on heavy ones.

How to Unlock Aberrant Forms

You will unlock your first chance to select between these Forms automatically in the first chapter of the story. Don't worry about this being your permanent weapon throughout the game; it isn't. There are different ways you can acquire the other weapons. One way is by using a Reset Item.
Reset Item is a consumable in Control Resonant that can be used to reset the upgrades that you have made to your Combat Abilities, Talents, and, of course, Aberrant Forms. You can obtain Reset Items in several ways: buying from Vendors, defeating bosses and vending machines, and from arcade machines.
Another way you can unlock new Aberrant Forms is with Living Shards. These are another resource that can be used in the Gap to craft the other weapons. Like the Reset Item, you can unlock these Shards with a number of activities such as defeating bosses, completing quests, or buying them directly from the Vendors.
Which Aberrant Should You Pick?

What Aberrant you should focus on will depend on your playstyle. Strike offers fast attacks and high critical chances for players who prefer faster-paced combat. Glaive brings a heavier but slower attack that can hit multiple enemies. Cleave brings a balance of speed and power that is perfect for both close and mid-range distance.
| Aberrant | Effect | Special Ability |
| Cleave | A balanced attack that does extra Damage when performed from the back. | Dodge Cleave: Press the Attack Button right after a Dodge to perform a Dodge Attack that throws enemies in the air and applies Lifted status to them. |
| Strike | A fast attack with a high Critical Chance. | Dodge Strike: Press the Attack Button right after a Dodge to perform a Dodge Attack that deals more damage. |
| Glaive | A wide attack that can hit multiple enemies at once and push them away. | Dodge Glaive: Press the Attack Button right after a Dodge to perform a Dodge Attack that deals more damage. |
As for the secondary Forms, Crush is a slow yet powerful attack that can be used to knock enemies down. Extend is a whip-like attack that can hit multiple enemies, and Drill is a quick attack that drills the target like a stun baton. All three can be charged for additional Falter damage.
| Aberrant | Effect | Ultimate Ability |
| Crush | A slow, high Damage attack that can knock enemies down. Can be charged to do more damage. | Capitalizing Charge: Adds 20% Falter from Charged attacks. |
| Extend | A long range attack that may hit multiple enemies. | Executive Order: Guaranteed Critical Hit on the last attack in Extend combo if all attacks are perfectly charged. |
| Drill | A quick attack. Charge to continuously drill the target. | Board Rebuttal: Dylan takes less Damage from all attacks when drilling. |
Best Aberrant Combinations

Cleave
As mentioned, Aberrant choices will depend on playstyle. However, we still recommend the Cleave as the starting primary Aberrant for its balance of speed and damage. Additionally, the Cleave contains the Dodge Cleave skill, which lets you throw enemies into the air after a dodge attack.
As a secondary Form to complement the Cleave, we recommend the Crush for extra heavy damage. Ideally, you will start with the Crush to knock down some enemies and finish them with Cleave attacks.
Strike
For a secondary build, a Strike and Extend combination is highly advised. This mix is perfect for the Strike since the Extend attack compensates for range. Strike also covers a single enemy, while Extend damages multiple enemies at once.
Glaive
Lastly, if you still want to give the Glaive a chance, then a good combination for it will be the Drill. Since the Glaive's attacks are slower, use the Drill to slow down enemies and keep them at a distance. Alternatively, you can use the Glaive at long range to take on multiple enemies from afar, and use the Drill to finish the remaining enemies.
