Control Resonant: How to Find & Complete the Underpass Fault

Written by Grace Black - 27th September 2026

In Control Resonant, the Jesse-related quests, known as "faults," are located at specific locations throughout the core zones. They are incredibly crucial as they permanently unlock additional traversal abilities, some of which are required to progress through certain main quests and bosses.

The Underpass Fault is one of the Jesse quests that players may find most confusing. Not only do you have to traverse a puzzle-like environment, but if you have not unlocked the needed abilities, then you will also need to double back before you can complete it all. Don't worry, though, we've got you covered with a complete Control Resonant Underpass Fault quest walkthrough in the guide below.

How to Start The Underpass Fault & All Mission Prerequisites

First, you need to unlock The Underpass, which can be done by starting and completing the Power Lines and Into the Sinkhole questlines. Since the necessary quests all unlock one after the other, this can be achieved by tracking them in your quest log.

Once you have completed Power Lines, drilled into the ground, restored the signals, and finally found your way back after being lost and abandoned (thanks to Zoe), then you should now unlock access to The Underpass with the "Recursions and Iterations" quest, which has Dylan search this new zone for a missing research team.

During exploration of The Underpass, you may pick up on a fragment of Jesse. However, even if you manage to follow this lead, if you haven't unlocked the right traversal abilities, then you can only get so far. You should have no problem getting to the stage where you're prompted to "Investigate the island with the orange pipes for signs of Jesse"; all it takes is a bit of exploration using your traversal abilities - primarily Shift. You can also use this to climb the Spire and reach the Astral Plane, where the Physicist boss awaits.

If you're having no luck in reaching this island with any of your abilities, then you may be missing Reach. This ability enables you to lock on to the transparent orbs near edges, grappling towards them. With this ability, you can explore much more of The Underpass, including the island with orange pipes.

To unlock it, you must find and repair the Subway Fault, meaning you'll need to find the nearest fast travel door and backtrack.

To initiate the "Repair the Subway Fault" quest, you'll need to head over to the Railyard Street Station in the Evacuation Zone area. It has been pointed out on the map screenshot above.

Once you enter the station, follow the path to descend further Underpass. Once you hit the tracks, hop on the tracks and continue to follow them all the way. Eventually, you will come across a gap where another train will rush through. Wait until the timing is right, jump through the gap, and continue forward.

Continue jumping across the next gaps while avoiding the trains, and you will come to a section of the tunnel filled with mold, indicated by a blue light.

Unfortunately, there is also train that will be rushing through this tunnel, on the same track that you need to run on. There's currently no way to get past the train with your current abilities, so turn left and look for a little window gap that you can follow into further infested mold terrain.

Follow these tracks and clear the enemies along the way. Now make your way over to the tunnel in the screenshot below and go through it. It will spit you out onto another section of terrain.

Continue forward and turn right and continue right again when you hit the next set of tracks. Clear the next room of enemies, and you will remove a large orange mold blockade. Move through this new path once it is revealed.

You will now come to a crossroads of trains moving vertically and horizontally. Time your jumps and dashes accordingly and descend to the bottom of this tunnel.

Once you reach the giant monsters, you need to land on the nearby ground. Fall any further, and you will die.

Follow the tunnel the entire way, and you will come across the Fault. Interact with the TV to start the fault. Then simply follow the path forward using your abilities, and you will gain the powerful new Reach ability, letting you grapple to the transparent orbs across the map and opening up new avenues for exploration. Finally, you can now return to The Underpass and find Jesse to also complete the Underpass Fault.

How to Repair the Underpass Fault

Use a Fast Travel Door to return to The Spire in The Underpass. Now, hop across the pillars heading in the direction of the glowing island with orange pipes. You can now cross over the previously unreachable gap thanks to your next Reach ability.

Once you reach the island, head to the northern side and drop down to the pillars underneath. Turn around and face the other way, and you should be able to find the hidden entrance to the Underpass Fault, standing out due to the glowing bright colors.

Enter the building, battle your way through enemies, and progress forward. Eventually, you will come to a tunnel that leads directly to the Underpass Fault, so jump this final gap and interact with the TV to begin.

During this fault, Dylan will have to fight not only to find his sister, but to remember her, and to help her remember him, too. To begin, follow the path forward as it is revealed to you, using your glide, shift, and reach abilities to navigate the terrain as necessary.

Use the L2/LB button to interact with stone walls/pillars along the way, viewing memories in the form of puppet-like silhouettes on these surfaces. Along this fault, little glowing children's silhouettes will mark the correct way, so follow their pathing.

These "Light-Projected Children" resemble the young Dylan and Jesse and are key to helping Dylan remember his past and find Jesse.

You will now need to guide the Light-Projected Children the correct way. However, they can only be projected onto surfaces in light, so you will need to use a bit of clever work with your traversal abilities to find a way to guide them through.

At the next point, the two Light-Projected Children will become separated, and Dylan will need to guide them both back to a spot where they can reconnect.

  1. First guide the young Dylan across the left pathway.
  2. Use the walls along the right side to get him across the gaps until you reach a ledge you can grapple up to.
  3. Climb this and continue guiding him into place. He will now wait while you go and find the young Jesse.control resonant how to find the underground fault part 6 young dylan

  5. Use Reach to land on this next set of pillars, then use Shift to attach to the slab of terrain.
  6. Follow the path all the way down and detach at the end; you will see the young Jesse waiting.control resonant how to find the underground fault part 7 young jesse location
  7. Use this wall to guide her back up the same way you just came.
  8. Once you reach the ledge, leave Jesse and float across to the next terrain, shifting to it.
  9. Jesse will be waiting where you left her, but she will now have line of sight to you and the path forward.
  10. Guide Jesse through the remainder of the path using the walls, and you will be able to see young Dylan in the distance. Lead Jesse up the remainder of this path using the walls on the left and then guide her back to the spot next to him.

Witness the memory with the reconnected light-projected children. A giant hole will now open up in the ground. Jump down it and follow the path forward to finally find a very disoriented Jesse.

Speak to her to reunite, help her remember, and share the final memory together to seal the Underpass Fault.

Jesse will tell you that there is now just one more fault remaining and will warn you about preparing for it. The Underpass Fault quest will now be complete.
