Boss Strategy

This guide focuses on the Heroic Lunaclaw encounter in Darkshore but also works for the normal version.

heroic lunaclaw map

Minis in Lunaclaw’s army

  • Chain Lightning - Brilliant Flash
  • Earth Elemental - Obsidian Shard
  • Gnoll Brute - Thick Hide
  • Harpies - Talon Dive
  • Huntress - Shadowmeld
  • Raptors - Fast Food
  • Spiderlings - Envenom

Other minis and map mechanics

The main mechanic in Lunaclaw is its long-range Moonfire that will target your minis from almost halfway across the map (30 range to be specific).

Lunaclaw also summons additional Prowlers:

  • A Prowler will spawn from the cave on the left at 3:20 and every 60 seconds thereafter (2:20, 1:20, 0:20)
  • A Prowler will spawn from the middle cave at 2:50 and every 60 seconds thereafter (1:50, 0:50)
  • A Prowler will spawn from the cave on the right at 2:20 and every 60 seconds thereafter (1:20, 0:20)
  • In Heroic, these Prowlers have On the Prowl talent

Lunaclaw:

  • 6000 health
  • Melee (cleave): 250 Physical damage, 2.2 seconds attack speed, 90 degree arc, 3 radius, targets the lowest current health mini in range, cannot hit flying minis
  • Moonfire (single target): 220 Elemental damage, 50 Elemental damage per second for 8 seconds, 3.0 seconds attack speed, -50% movement speed for 6 seconds (Daze), 30 range (Normal: 85 Elemental damage, 30 Elemental damage per second for 8 seconds)

General strategy

If you outlevel the encounter, it is possible to beat Lunaclaw with Whelp Eggs and an Unbound tank, preferably Earth Elemental. If you do not, I do not recommend an Unbound strategy.

If you do not outlevel it, I like to send my first attack over the bridge towards the Tower on the right, followed by another push towards the Meeting Stone on the left. Minis on the bridge can shoot down at any minis Lunaclaw sends under the bridge and get some kills for free.

The left Prowler is the first to spawn, and sending some Angry Chickens against it will take it down quickly. Sometimes Lunaclaw also plays other minis to support it, such as Huntress, in which case you need to let your base tank a little before deploying the Chickens.

With one army proceeding from the Tower and another from the Meeting Stone, you can get a good pincer attack on Lunaclaw that may end the fight immediately.

The Gold Mines are so close to each other that a Kobold Miner can keep walking between the two as long as it is not targeted by Lunaclaw or a Prowler from the middle cave.
