Welcome to our Mists of Pandaria Classic (MoP Classic) Discipline Priest Class Guide for Phase 1, it focuses on getting you up to speed with the Spec for PvE content, Dungeons and Raiding. The guide includes key information for what has changed going into MoP, the best Talent builds, Major Glyphs, your Rotation, Gearing and Consumables for Disc Priest.

Table of Content:

What’s New for Discipline Priests in Mists of Pandaria Classic

With a lot of classes receiving huge changes and the addition of the Monk class, you could expect the same for Priest. But Blizzard seemed happy with the general direction they went for in Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria will just expand and improve on this design. Below are some changes you should expect for Discipline Priests in MoP Classic:

Is Discipline Priest Good?

Oh yes, it’s amazing. Even without talking about how strong the spec is, the new and improved version of Discipline Priest in Mist of Pandaria Classic is way more fun to play. Atonement is more reliable, you have more cooldowns, more damage, better mana management tools, more mobility… You get everything basically. It’s also one, if not the most original healer in WoW! If playing a fun spec isn’t enough for you, you should know that it’s also the best healer in MoP.

But tread lightly, you will have to invest a bit of time into the spec and the game to learn how to play it, because you’ll have to understand fights and dungeons correctly to maximize healing.

Best Talents & Glyphs for Discipline Priest in MoP Classic

In the talent build section, you are going to find 2 builds for PvE activities: one for raid, one for dungeons. This distinction is good for clarity purposes, but know that every talent can be swapped around depending on the fight you are going to play.

Discipline Priest Raiding Talent Build

In this Raid Talent Build, you will find a lot of options that should be swapped depending on your needs. In the first row, Void tendrils is just a default good option but you should change if you need an AoE Fear or your Mind control. In the second row, Body and Soul is a good default choice you don’t really have to think about, but Angelic Feather is technically better. You just need to actively think about them and how to place them.

Next row, Mindbender is just amazing, giving you a Shadowfiend every minute. But you could also play with From Darkness, Come Light if you don’t need the extra mana. Desperate Prayer next is usually the best choice, being more versatile than Angelic Bulwark.

Regarding the last two throughput talents, Twist of Fate is considered better on Discipline Priest because you can easily gain advantage of it twice, through DPSing and Healing but Power Infusion is better if you need a strong healing cooldown.

Lastly, Halo is usually the better choice in raids, but if your group is always stacked together, Divine star will be better.

Best Discipline Priest Raid Glyphs

Regarding Major Glyphs, Priests actually have a very good glyph diversity with a lot of interesting choices. You should always consider Glyph of Penance, and after that, change depending on your needs. Glyph of Fade for an extra personal cooldown, Glyph of Smite for DPS, Glyph of Holy Fire for range, and either Glyph of Inner Sanctum or Glyph of Inner Fire depending on the type of mitigation you might need (magical vs physical). Glyph of Weakened Soul can also help if you need to spam shields.

There are no game changing minor glyphs, do as you please!

Discipline Priest Dungeons & Challenge Mode Talent Build

The Dungeon Talent Build relies on the same logic as the raiding build. Twist of Fate has even more value in dungeons, as you will find a lot more targets below 35% HP and have a higher uptime on this. Divine Star will also be the safest pick as Halo will not get the full 25 yard value. Regarding other choices, you can pretty much do as you want.

Discipline Priest Dungeon Glyphs

Regarding Major Glyphs, choices remains the same as the Raid build.

There are no game changing minor glyphs, use what you prefer!

Rotation for Discipline Priest in MoP Classic

Talking about a Rotation for Healers is very strange, so this part of the guide will mostly talk about spell usages, what to do in dire situations and how to maximise healing.

For Discipline Priests, you can identify 2 situations: when the group isn’t taking heavy damage and when the group is going to take heavy damage (or ; you will have to change your gameplay depending on the situation.

If your group doesn’t take heavy damage, here is how you want to play:

  1. Maintain Inner Fire.
  2. Use Mindbender if you need mana.
  3. Maintain 3 stacks of Grace on the tank.
  4. Use Power World: Shield on targets that tend to take damage, mainly tanks.
  5. Stay at 5 stacks of Evangelism.

Focus on healing through Atonement.

  1. Use Holy Fire on Cooldown.
  2. Use Penance on Cooldown.
  3. Spam Smite.
  4. Cast Inner Focus if you need a big single target heal. Its cooldown will be reduced by casting Greater heal.
  5. Use Greater heal if you need to top a target or Prayer of Healing for AoE.

If your group is taking heavy damage or a big damage spike is coming, change the way you play:

  1. Use Hymn of Hope moments before the big damage spike if you or your healer friends are low on mana.
  2. Cast Mindbender.
  3. Cast Archangel with your 5 Evangelism stacks.
  4. Use Spirit Shell and spam Prayer of Healing to build a big absorb on everyone.
  5. Use Power Word: Barrier to mitigate incoming damage.
  6. Use Divine Star on Cooldown for AoE Healing.
  7. Use Pain Suppression to mitigate damage done to a single target and Void shift to save yourself or an ally.
  8. Use Inner Focus on Cooldown.
  9. Use Prayer of Mending on Cooldown.
  10. Use Penance on Cooldown.
  11. And then use either Prayer of Healing for AoE or Greater Heal for a single target.
  12. Use Flash heal if you need to save someone fast.

Best Gear & Stats for Discipline Priest in MoP Classic

Best in Slot (BiS Gear) aren’t as big in Mists of Pandaria Classic. Reforging is the new hype, so you can tailor your gear better than before.

The gear you should aim for are: Trinkets and Tier Sets.

The best pre-raid trinkets are:

MoP Classic Discipline Priest Stat Priority

The best stat you can get as a Discipline Priest is Critical Strike Chance. This statistics works really well in combination with Atonement but can prove ineffective if you get the short end of the stick. After Critical Strike, Spirit and Mastery have the best value. Get enough Spirit to end all your mana issues, and then Mastery to increase your shield's power. Haste is always fine, but you shouldn’t prioritise this stat.
