The Blood of the Dawnwalker has an upgrade system for weapons, armour, trinkets, etc, though it doesn't make a big deal of it.
This is especially useful when some of the best weapons in the game can be acquired early. With items scaling with the level you find them, it could be a little annoying to find an item too early. Thankfully, there is a solution; however, it is very expensive.
This brief guide will explain how and where you can upgrade items, as well as the cost for doing so. We'll also show all the locations you can find Witchcraft Vendors for when you progress the story.

Where do you Upgrade Items?
This is a fairly simple task, though it's not one that's entirely obvious from the map. You need to head to the Witchcraft Vendor on the map, such as Vera shown in the image above, and after a small chat with her, you can select the option to have her take a look at your items.
There is also a nearby Shrine that you can fast travel to at any point, making getting back to Vera very easy. She is just the first Witchcraft Vendor; we'll have more on that at the end of the article.
Cost and What You Can Upgrade
The cost of upgrading depends on the quality of the item. A poor quality item is cheap and higher quality items cost much more. A Legendary item however might cost over 500 Denarii for a single level!
You can upgrade swords, armour, and jewellery, so basically all the stuff you wear on your person. One really important thing to note, and you can see in the screenshots here, is that upgrading can also upgrade the secondary effects on an item. For a sword, the DPS will always go up; however, things like the crit chance or stamina cost can also improve.
It's likely best used for Legendary items or for upgrading new green or blue items up to your level.
Witchcraft Vendor Locations
There are four Witchcraft Vendors in The Blood of Dawnwalker but they are not all accessible right away, and some of them require quests, etc.
Vera
Vera is the first one we come across, and she is the easiest to get to. You must visit her during the day, however, because she likes to get her beauty sleep, unlike Coen. She sells a lot of interesting items, which we will list a few below:

Peddler of Wonders
The second vendor, Peddler of Wonders, is located near Svartrau City. You'll find him on the outskirts on the west side in the small town of Middens. Like Vera, he has a fair few unique items that you can buy:
- Recipe for Supernatural’s Blood Infusion
- Recipe for Potent Aetheric Attunement
- Recipe for Potent Powder of Sharp Mind
- Recipe for Potent Keen Eye Potion
- Recipe for Potent Vrakhiri Attunement
Matriarch
This is the first Witchcraft Vendor that requires a little bit of setup to access. You need to complete the quest chain starting with 'A Friend Like This'. You can pick up the quest in Svartrau City by inspecting the suspicious markings on the walls using your Focus Mode. This eventually leads to a boss fight, leading to the rest of the chain.
Important: To unlock the vendor, make sure you choose all of the non-combat options; otherwise, she can die. The location for this one is a bit odd, but there is also Shrine outside.

Vicho
The final Witchcraft Vendor is Vicho, and, like the Matriarch, he requires some work to unlock. The first quest is a nod to Sherlock with the quest A Study in Crimson. You can trigger the quest a few ways, but the easiest is just to go to his house in Svartrau City at night. His house is right next to the location where his shop will eventually be; you may even have one of the yellow exclamation marks on your map.
Note: You can end up killing Vicho by doing quests in a weird order. The quest The Good Samaritan is offered alongside the second part of A Study in Crimson. Do the A Study in Crimson first or ignore both.
Vicho is the most unique of the vendors, offering up Rare and even Legnedary items rather than manuals and recipes. Here are the items Vicho sells:
