The Blood Of Dawnwalker: Best Prologue Quests To Optimise Time & Correct Recipe for Withering Away

Written by Geekmandem - 3rd September 2026

The Blood Of Dawnwalker's prologue is time-limited, and as such, you can't do everything it has to offer. Your first day gives you the freedom to do as you wish, but only for that limited time, so you need ot make it count.

What this prologue does, though it might seem harsh at first, is teach you how the rest of the game treats your time. You can't do everything, but that's ok. You can't do everything you want in life either, but your choices matter here, so, choose wisely.

If you don't want to miss out on everything, however, then we can help you out with a guiding hand. For more The Blood of Dawnwalker guides, keep it locked to Method.

Pro Tip: We ran into an issue where the Bandit Camp quest completed, but we were not able to do the treasure map. On a save reload, we skipped Into the Den and were able to complete it.

Withering Away (2 Notches)

The first quest we want to do is the first quest we get. Withering Away will see you help your father to feed your mother, with less-than-desirable results. Eventually, the second part of the quest will send us to Anca's Hut. Pick up your sword and head out.

Pro Tip: This quest will introduce the idea of the time notches to you, so pay attention to the tips.

Correct Spoonful of Herbs Choice for Withering Away

Once at Anca's hut, you'll need to do some mild investigation to find her. Simply follow the trail to the river. After speaking to Anca the first time, a notch will pass. Stick with her for the next part to collect the herbs for your mother. Once you get the herbs, you will be asked if you want to stay for Latin lessons. For the sake of time, say no; we don't want to use a third notch for now.

Correct Answer: You need to use Hot Water and Three Spoonfuls of Herbs to get the correct dosage for the quest. The amount of times per week isn't important.

Pro Tip: Anca has a bunch of stuff in her house you can loot that doesn't count as stealing, so loot away.

Once that's done, head back to your father to complete the quest. This rewards you with 600 XP.

Like Father Like Son (1 Notch)

To keep it simple, we want to stick with our father for the next quest. Follow your father until the combat starts; this is effectively our first boss fight, teaching us how to play around unblockable attacks, assuming you did not fight the boars on the way to the hut.

It's a fairly simple fight, offering up 100 XP on completion. When done, make sure to select the option to see him later (1 Notch) and not the Skip to Mass option. This will also unlock the Charge Manual skill.

On the Run (2 Notches)

This is a good option and a fairly easy quest to do. Head to Iorgu in town (shown above) and search for the tracks of his pigs. Follow the tracks past the bridge and to the right until you find Kuno camp and the pig. Chatting to him will advance time one notch.

Given the option, choose the option "Knyaz Brencise Does" which will avoid a fight, and he'll hand over the pig. Once done, chase the pig down.

You are then given three choices. Help him out, rewarding some cash, choose not to and complete the quest, or pay the 100 Denarius to take the pig. It's up to you, but the best reward comes from the first option of helping slaughter the pig. You'll get 50 Denarius and 3 bits of sausage.

Deep Down (1 Notch) and If A Tree Falls Down (0 Notches)

blood of dawnbreaker best prologue quests deep down

Head southwest to the farm and speak to the farmer to start the quest Deep Down. We'll be asked to head to the bogs to find Lazar, who had headed there to gather peat (peat is sort of like an early form of oil in a muddy clay form).

Before we complete that quest however, we'll pick up another quest first. In the Peat Bog, you will find a fallen tree which provides another simple quest that uses no time.

Follow the tracks, killing any wolves and looting the camps on the way for extra loot. You can follow the sounds in the forest and, if like us, you fall for it, you'll trip on a tree root. Sort of proving the point of the other idiots that died in the area. Complete the quest by following the clues until you get to the river and loot the items.

Deep Down

Now, head to the bog and follow the tracks until you get the Wolves. Deal with them and then head into the hole. When you find Lazar, keep heading deeper into the cave to avenge him.

Head into the room with the sarcophagi and loot around the room, then fight the Forgotten Guardian. It's a fairly easy fight; just block the attacks and kill it. You get a really nice early sword for doing so.

Into the Den (1 Notch)

You can do this after If A Tree Falls in the Forest to make it easier. Simply head to the cave shown on the map above. Fight the bear in the cave and then loot the body for the item. Head to the second location shown above to complete the quest.

Pro Tip: The Dirty Tricks skill is good here to get some nice opening damage on the bear.

Enter Not (0 Notches)

blood of dawnbreaker best prologue quests turn in

These are the two hand-in locations for Enter Not (right) and If a Tree Falls (left).

Head to the abandoned house where you found the pig earlier. This is a really good quest, and uses up no time.

To get into the house, climb up on the right side where the wood is slightly painted white, and then drop into the room with the sound. Simply take the doll back to the church.

Pro Tip: At this point, use the Shrines to fast travel back to town.

Dead Drop (0 Notches)

Head to the forest near your village. Inspect the graves as shown at the location above and then follow the trail, inspecting the runes on the trees as you go. Check the last symbol on the fallen tree, then loot the location below for your reward.

Pro Tip: Head up the road to the shrine, but keep going for the next quest.

Bandit’s Treasure Map: Laslea Glen (1 Notch)

blood of dawnbreaker best prologue quests bandit camp

The final quest we can do in the prologue. From the end of the Dead Drop quest, follow the shrine, and you'll see a Bandit Camp up ahead. This is a fairly hard quest, so be prepared; we've looted some good items, so we should be prepared. If you are on the hardest difficulty, pay extra attention here.

We'll need to fight off three guys and a dog, with the larger of the three being the boss of the group. Defeat them, and time will pass, but you will still get the Rebel's Falchion for it.

Note: It is possible that time will not pass here and you will get the chance to loot the house as well. In our playthrough, it triggered the night. It might be best to do this quest earlier and drop into the Den, as the rewards from this are better.

And that's it. The prologue is over, you've got some lovely loot, and it's now time for the rest of the game.
