The Blood of Dawnwalker is full of weapons that you can get, and the prologue has a surprisingly high volume of really good ones.
With the prologue being so heavily time-gated, it's possible to grab five or more swords or miss them all. We'll include a few from the prologue, though it won't be possible to go back and get them after. So, we've also got a few from the first few hours after the prologue as well.

Best Swords - Prologue
The prologue has a fair few really good swords that you can get that will carry you into the early game. Interestingly, a fair few swords in this section are markedly better than ones from other quests.
Note: In the prologue, we'll give a few options due to the nature of the hard lock on time here.
Rebel's Falchion
Picked up from the Bandit Camp in the northeast section of the prologue map. Clearing the Rebel Camp will reward the sword, though it's worth noting that on higher difficulties it might be a slightly tricky quest to complete straight off the bat.
You'll need to fight off two guys and a dog, plus the boss, who will all attack you at once. Defeat them, and time will pass, but you will still get the Rebel's Falchion for it.
Polished Long Cleaver - Laslea Glen Treasure
Once you get the Rebel's Falchion above, head into the house and loot the treasure map. This will give you a location, which you will find behind the house on the hill above. Head up there into the cave, defeat the Ravenous Bear and then loot the pile of items.
We messed this quest up on our playthrough and got forced into the Sunday Mass cutscenes and were forced to leave the prologue. So, don't do that.
Note: Of the ones suggested in this guide, this is the best for pure DPS.
Deep Down - Undead Warrior’s Sword
The location on the left is where you start the quest to get the sword.
Another good sword which also fits in with our prologue quest guide. Deep Down is a pretty simple early quest that sends us to the bogs and into a cave/crypt. At the end of the network, you will need to defeat the boss, and loot the Undead Warrior’s sword.
The fight itself is fairly simple, and it acts as a sort of tutorial boss. Block the attacks, and he'll go down fairly easily.
First Legendary Sword - Durandal
Although technically not intended to be acquired in the early game, you'll be able to grab this insanely powerful legendary sword within just a few hours of starting out on your journey.

This is one of those "it might be too good" weapons, so we'll caveat that with a warning. This is a Legendary sword and has some serious stats to back it up.
Note: It will require a higher level to use; weapons seem to scale, so ours required level 15.
The "quest" to get the sword is a little convoluted, so bear with us here.
- Head to Svartrau City (shown above).
- Head to the Tavern (shown above) and speak to the Innkeeper to find out any local gossip.
- This will start a quest to find Skender's Men who have fallen into a chasm, taking a lot of treasure with them.
- This location is way back up north, so use a fast travel point to get there.
- The Cursed Chasm is the quest, and it will require you to head to the destroyed bridge, located to the west of Briars Slough.
- Head into the chasm, fight off the enemies located here and head to the loot.
Pro Tip: Coming at night means you can just ride down the side of the chasm.
The enemies are not too tricky, though the boss Echo is fairly tough if you let it drain you. You'll also get some other good loot here, including the Treasure Map: Silver Cache. This is also worth doing, as it rewards a lot of silver, though the wolves defending it are a little tricky.
As we're here, we might as well do the Finders Keepers quest as well. Follow the map markers to the Shrine, which will then lead us down the road. At the crossroads, head up to the left as the map suggests and towards the cave. Inspect the Graves at the house to move to the next part. Head into the woods now until you find a rock that looks like the one above. Well done, you've found the cave.
Dig up the dirt, which will use up 2 notches of time. A Pack Leader should now spawn, which you'll need to fight. For us, doing the quest moved us from night into day, which appears to have stopped the Pack Leader from spawning.
