Valor Mortis: The Lost Boy Quest Guide

Valor Mortis has a number of quests that require you to go off the beaten track and use your intuition to understand what has happened to the poor, unfortunate souls caught in the crossfire. The Lost Boy, Mirak, is one such case.

In Chapter 5, you'll come across a home with a letter and some flashbacks explaining that a young boy named Marek has gone missing, and also gives some color to this enigmatic figure, The Shrike.

Here is how to track him down, and what's in it for you if you do.

Starting The Lost Boy

When you begin Chapter Five, you'll almost immediately come to a small group of houses, but beware that there are plenty of basic enemies and a Grenadier enemy lurking, so take them out first and then head into the nearest house to the Lantern.

It's here that you'll be able to shoot one of the two weak points to progress to the woods, but it's also where you'll witness a flashback and find a note relating to Marek, a young boy who is missing after joining the rebellion.

To find him, you'll want to work your way along the path left of the corrupted blockage, and you'll eventually come to a cave entrance with a grapple you can use to get inside. Here is where you'll meet the most challenging part of this short quest.

Fighting The Fire Sapeur

Inside the cave, you'll find a unique version of the Risen Sapeur, who is imbued with fire, meaning you'll gain fire buildup by standing too close to this guy. Plus, you'll also have to deal with his unique melee attack, which not only can slash you with an axe, but also spawns a temporary enemy that shoots a fireball at you.

To make this fight a little easier, we would suggest that you go in there fully loaded with bullets and Ferrofluid Flasks. Plus, if you have access to a Cleansing Vial, this is a super item to have in your back pocket to clear any status effects.

Make use of the space and try to engage at close range as little as you can, and you should make it out alive. Beating this mini-boss will reward you with the Amber 'Equivalent Exchange' but you're not done in this cave yet.

Head further into the cave and down at the bottom of a drop; you'll find Marek, who died trying to poison the water supply of the soldiers. You can then take the Cellar Key he dropped and head back to the house. Use the tree log with the weak point to access a shortcut to the house.

Inside the Cellar, you'll find a note that completes the quest, and you'll also find your final reward inside a nearby chest. The 'Wounds That Heal' Amber.
