Phantom Blade Zero: How To Fix The Illusory Pipa

Phantom Blade Zero: How To Fix The Illusory Pipa

Written by Callum Marshall - 4th November 2026

Within the second chapter of this blockbuster action epic, you'll come face to face with Bai Chilian, a boss fight that will grant you the Illusory Pipa if you win. An item that could just allow you to get in contact with The Chord.

However, when you get your hands on the thing, it's in pretty bad shape. You have the remnants of the Pipa, but you'll be missing the Illusory Pipa Strings, the Illusory Pipa Head, and the Illusory Pipa Backplate. These are tough to track down, but we can help you make sense of this long-winded quest and allow you to restore the Illusory Pipa to its past glory.

How To Get The Illusory Pipa

As mentioned, you get the Illusory Pipa and kickstart the quest of the same name when you defeat Bai Chilian. She is the end-of-chapter boss within the Crimson Forest. This means you'll have to solve the Weeping Forest puzzle and deal with her two-phase battle. Provided you can handle that, you'll have the tattered remains of the Pipa and can push on toward the Village of Lu.

Note: If you're looking for a more detailed guide on how to defeat Bai Chilian or a walkthrough of the Crimson Forest leading up to their fight, we have a boss guide that will do the trick.

How To Get The Pipa Head

Next, you'll need to get the Pipa Head, which is easily the most long-winded of the three in terms of legwork for the player. When in the Village Of Lu, you'll need to be on the lookout for Firefly memory flowers. If you find all six of these, you'll then be able to clear the mist near the Temple of Blue Fireflies, and then you can drop into the pit to fight Dusk.

Dusk is a hard boss who clones themselves midway through the fight to really up the ante, but if you defeat them, you'll have the first of three Pipa parts in hand.

Note: Again, this is a rather complex process, and finding those Memory Flowers can be a pain. So, if you need a dedicated guide on how to find the Pipa Head, we have one right here.

How To Get The Pipa Body

To get the Pipa Body, you'll need to first fully explore the region of Pangzhen up to but not including the Mirage Estate, as you will need to get your hands on the Mandate Encampment Key by defeating Wan Jun.

After you do this, you will need to proceed through the Mandate Encampment and will need to fight the Chief Disciple of the Seven-Stars Formation to get your hands on the Training Grounds Key.

After this, proceed through the locked door; this key opens the door to the Training Grounds Depths, where you will face off against the Puppet form of Bi Taotao, Yubi, No.21 Swordfighter Puppet.

Here is a suggested build for this fight and some quick tips to beat Yubi:

Suggested Build

  • Weapon: Scarlet Wraithblade
  • Secondary Weapon: Fiend Saws
  • Phantom Edge: Fire Meteor
  • Accessories: Nameless Thumb Ring, Thunderward, Reflex Device, Remnant Spark Cage
  • Medicines: Healing Gourd, Vessel Restorative

The most key aspects of this build are the Thunderward accessory, as this negates lightning damage throughout the second half of this fight. Plus, the Scarlet Wraithblade is perfect for landing heavy hits while also slowing down this very agile and aggressive boss.

Tips To Beat Yubi No.21 Swordfighter Puppet

  • Going too offensive in this fight is a bad call. You'll want to counter-attack by picking your moments carefully and parrying their red and blue glow prompts to break their guard.
  • When you start seeing two Yubi's (one ghost-like form) it means that the attack is going to land twice in quick succession. Parries are very difficult here so it's best to hold block for chip damage or dodge entirely.
  • During the lightning phase, be mindful of the lightning AOE attacks that occur just after her aggressive spinning attack.
  • Try to stay away from the edge of the arena, as this will cause lightning damage and paralysis build-up.

Defeat this boss, and you'll gain the Baishan Stormswords and the Broken Vessel. Plus, in the building nearby, you'll find the Illusory Pipa Backplate mounted on a table.

How To Get The Pipa Strings

Your last stop on this Illusory Pipa tour is Miegu Lake, which means you will need to explore Pangzhen, and head to the docks to access the Motorboat. After doing this, you will then have to explore the area directly ahead of the Docks. There is an island called the Miegu Songhouse Dock, and around the perimeter of the island are six Memory Flowers.

You will need to find all six of these Flowers, but unlike the Firefly collection, these are all very close by, and quite hard to miss. Just sail around the circumference of the island, and you'll likely find them all without any hassle.

After doing this, you will then want to dock at the Songhouse, as there will now be a boss waiting there for you. Yan Qiansui, The Zither Maiden. Here are the suggested build and tips to take her down:

Suggested Build

  • Weapon: Baishan Stormswords
  • Secondary Weapon: Jagged Steel
  • Phantom Edge: Bastion
  • Accessories: Token Of Pursuit, Deathlock, Arrowward, Battle Wraps
  • Medicines: Healing Gourd, Longevity Tonic

The key aspects of this build are Bastion, which allows you to block attacks when opportunities to parry blue orbs don't present themselves, as well as Token Of Pursuit and Deathlock, which get the fight done and dusted a lot faster.

Tips To Beat Yan Qiansui

  • It becomes obvious pretty quickly, but just a heads-up. She is completely invulnerable to standard attacks until her guard is broken, so don't go in all guns blazing.
  • The only way to break her guard is to volley blue orbs back at her. So, if it's not blue, don't try to parry; just get out of the way.
  • The only exception to the point above is the purple fire projectile that she launches at you. This is parryable, and you should try to do so.
  • Generally speaking, it's better to be at a distance for this fight and react to what comes at you. Being too close to an invulnerable boss is a recipe for disaster.

After you beat this boss, you will be rewarded with the Fanatic's Fragment Attachment, the Fanatic's Obsession, and the star of the show, the Illusory Pipa Strings.

Using The Illusory Pipa

Now that you have all the composite parts, all you need to do is return to Myst's Tavern in Pangzhen and speak to Myst, who will repair the Illusory Pipa for you.

This turns these items into a functional Phantom Edge. In battle, this allows you to launch ranged sonic blade attacks, which can deplete Sha-Chi, deal damage, and even take control of enemies if they've had their guard broken.

However, the most important ability granted to you by the Illusory Pipa is the ability to clear mist around the various regions by playing the instrument, which in turn will allow you to proceed beyond the Weeping Mistgate and continue various quests such as The Pillars Of Kunlun and Whence The Weeping.
