Doom: The Dark Ages has been out for a few days now, so players had time to get into the thick of the action on Argent D’Nur – with some even completing the game already. However, if you’re just starting the newest adventure of the Doom Slayer, you might be wondering how long it takes to get from the beginning of the story to the very end – but don’t worry, we got you covered.
How Long is the Doom: The Dark Ages Campaign?
While the length of the TDA campaign can vary on the difficulty settings, your desire to complete every challenge, get every collectible and piece of gold you can find, or simply your skill of learning and using new mechanics the game throws at you, finishing the main story of the prequel takes around 18-20 hours. There are 22 chapters in Doom: The Dark Ages, and while some are a bit shorter – such as the mission where you pilot your Atlan mech – there are also outliers in the other direction, like the first part of the Siege, which could pass as an open world game. It takes around an hour to complete a chapter on average on Ultra-Violence, and even more if you die a lot on higher difficulties – especially on Ultra-Nightmare, where every death is as real as it can get in a videogame, so if you die, you have to start over.
However, if you want to find every secret area and collect every goodie on the map, as well as do every challenge – that’s not just using a gun you’d have used anyway – you can add a couple of hours to the playtime. For a casual completionist run, it could take around 22-24 hours to play through the story of Doom: The Dark Ages.
Still, it’s not that big of an ask to get most of the collectibles. While some are hidden well, if you use your minimap, you can find them easily. A lot of collectibles are also tied to, or are in areas where you can find upgrade materials like Gold, Rubies and Wraithstones in secret or challenging areas, which are necessary for you to upgrade your Slayer’s Guns, Shield and Melee Weapons. While platforming is not as much of a thing in TDA as it was in Doom: Eternal, some secret areas can be a fun climb as well!
