Blizzard has finally revealed the official release date for Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek, which arrives in less than two weeks: August 11th in North America and August 12th in Europe.
Curse of Ula’tek introduces a wealth of new content to the Midnight expansion, including The Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, Lairs for World Bosses, three new Delves, and, of course, The Coiled Isle zone where a lot of this new content lives.
The Coiled Isle Zone
The Coiled Isle serves as the main hub for Patch 12.1. Here, you'll progress through the campaign, experience new story content, take part in public events such as Vaults of Atal'Utek, and unlock the zone-specific talent tree, the Altar of Corrosion. The island is also home to much of the patch's new endgame content, including the entrances to The Venomous Abyss raid, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, and the three new Delves.
The Venomous Abyss Raid
Located on The Coiled Isle, The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid featuring Nek’zali the Soulcoiler, Entombed Sentinels, The Lost Explorers, Vashnik the Malignant, Sszorak, The Twin Fangs, The Coiled Altar, and the final boss, Ula’Tek.
Although Patch 12.1 launches on August 11-12, The Venomous Abyss will not open until August 18th in North America and August 19th in Europe. Unlike the previous raid patch, there will be no "Heroic Week" before Mythic difficulty becomes available. Instead, all four raid difficulties will launch simultaneously. However, only the first LFR wing will be available at launch, with the remaining three wings unlocking over the following three weeks.
The new raid also marks the return of the Race to World First, as the world's top guilds compete to become the first to defeat Ula’Tek on Mythic difficulty. Method will once again be hosting our own Race to World First event, and we'll have more exciting details to share soon.
Altar of Fangs Dungeon
Altar of Fangs is a brand-new dungeon arriving with Patch 12.1. It features three bosses: Rav'i, The Writhing Coil, and Zul'Jan.
The dungeon will also join the Season 2 Mythic+ rotation, which begins on August 18-19, the same week that The Venomous Abyss raid opens, marking the official start of Midnight Season 2.
World Bosses Move into Lairs
Patch 12.1 introduces Lairs, replacing traditional open-world World Bosses with instanced encounters that scale for groups of 15-25 players. Lairs are available on Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties.
Instead of finding World Bosses in the open world, players will now enter dedicated instances located on The Coiled Isle, similar to how raids are accessed.
Three New Delves
Curse of Ula’tek also introduces three new Delves: The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and Venomfall Deeps, all located on The Coiled Isle.
Venomfall Deeps is the Season 2 Nemesis Delve. Inside this Delve you will find a single boss, Azta'rec, this season's Delve Nemesis. It's a fun but punishing encounter with a memory game component and some great rewards if you’re up for the challenge.
