The Grudge Pit Delve is one of the two Midnight delves in Harandar, and is a fighting arena for the fungarian. In this guide we will go over the Delve mechanic, Trash mobs and Boss mechanics, as well as all the story variations and Sturdy Chest Locations for the Grudge Pit.

There are 3 versions of The Grudge Pit delve:

  1. Lightbloom Invasion
  2. Arena Champion
  3. Dastardly Rootstalks

The Grudge Pit Delve Overview

This section covers things relevant to all versions of The Grudge Pit.

Delve Mobs

The Grudge Pit has a mix of Fungarian and Lightbloom enemies, which are similar to all other Lightbloom delves. These are the ones that we feel are worth highlighting.

Radiant Chloromancer are casters, who only cast a single interruptible ability called Blooming Shield, which puts a large absorb shield on them. We recommend interrupting this cast as often as you can, but prioritize interrupts on damaging abilities from other mobs first.

Thornblade are melee mobs with quite low damage. They have a single target ability called Bramble Blade, which applies a stacking damage over time disease. We recommend killing these as fast as possible, to prevent getting too many stacks, unless you easily dispel diseases.

Stumpspreader are large elite tree monsters they have one ability Blooming Bile, which is a large frontal cone you can side step.

Delve Boss

Each story variant of The Grudge Pit has it’s own delve boss.

Lightbloom Invasion - Story Variant

In the Lightbloom Invasion version of The Grudge Pit you must rescue the Fungarians, whose arena has been invaded by Lightbloom enemies.

The first step of Lightbloom Invasion is to free six entangled fighters and defeat 8 Lightbloom attackers. To free the fighters you simply click on them. We recommend clearing one side at the time as a few of the mobs patrol and you might accidentally end up with more enemies than you expect.

The second step is to defend two barricades that spawn, by defeating the lightbloom enemies who attack them.

After you have done this, three Unstoppable Thornmaws will spawn and run around the room. They are untargetable, deal small amounts of damage, and knockback. You must defeat them with barrels which have spawned nearby. Defeat enemies near the barrels, and then click on them. For each barrel clicked one of the Thornmaws will disappear.

Once that is finished the Lightbloom Invasion boss, called Brightthorn, will spawn. This is a fairly easy boss.

  • Solar Charge is a frontal charge which leaves behind puddles that deal damage over time if you remain in them.
  • Binding Burst is a short cast, after which Brightthorn will disorient anyone who is still looking at him.
  • Thorn Burst is an interruptable single target burst damage, which deals quite heavy damage.

To defeat Brightthorn, we recommend tanking him near the edge of the arena, and try to get him to charge into the walls. This minimizes his movement and saves space from the puddles left behind by Solar Charge. Interrupt Thorn Burst whenever you can.

Arena Champion - Story Variant

In the Arena Champion version of The Grudge Pit you will be fighting in the Fungarian arena against its champion. The mobs are different in this version, and we have outlined the mobs we think are important.

Fungal Gutter is a melee mob with a frontal cone ability, which is fairly wide and deals significant damage. They also cast Battle Cry which will cause all nearby friendly targets to gain 25% haste. The cast is interruptible and the buff is purgeable, and we recommend always interrupting Battle Cry when in large packs.

Gnarled Reviver and Fungal Rotcaster are casters who deal heavy single target damage with Rotten Bolt, which can be interrupted. We recommend interrupting Rotten Bolt only when there are no mobs who Battle Cry.

Fungal Rotspreader is a caster who, like the mobs above, casts Rotten Bolt. They will also channel an uninterruptible cast that spawns mushrooms on the ground, which deal heavy ticking damage if you move near them.

Fungal Speartender is an elite melee mob, who deals significant melee damage and has a frontal, Spear Vine, which deals a large amount of damage in a straight line. This is shown by brown swirls on the ground, which can be sidestepped. The Speartender also casts Battle Cry, identical to the Fungal Gutters, and we recommend interrupting this, as the buff will cause significant amounts of additional damage and make the spear cast faster.

The first step of the Arena Champion version of the Grudge Pit is to defeat enemies to fill a bar. To fight enemies you have to click on mobs standing around the arena. Clicking on the larger single ones, will make them run away (but they count towards the bar) and clicking the groups of 3 smaller mobs will make them attack you.

The second step is to defeat Bogdamp and Moldrus. Bogdamp is a caster who should be interrupted whenever you can, as his casts can quickly kill you. Moldrus is a melee mob similar to the Fungal Speartender.

Once you defeat both of these, mold samples will spawn in the room, similar to the spores in Fungal Folly in The War Within. Stepping into them will cause them to slowly explode. If you stay within the circle you will take a large amount of damage and get knockbacked. Unlike the spores in Fungal Folly the explosions do not damage enemies.

The goal of this stage is to collect mold samples from Moldering Fighters who have appeared around the arena, some defeated and some alive. You can click on the already defeated ones or kill some and click on them to collect your mold samples. Once done the boss Gyrospore will spawn.

Gyrospore is the boss in the Arena Champion variant of the Grudge Pit and is fairly easy to defeat.

  • Fungal Charge is a cast where the boss will charge a targeted player. It can be sidestepped during the cast.
  • Fungistorm is a short cast after which the boss starts a channel, where he whirlwinds and chases a player, dealing heavy damage. Once he is done he will become dizzy for a small amount of time, increasing his damage taken by 25%.

The best way to deal with Gyrospore is to keep him near the edge of the arena and kite around as he charges, to save space. Try to save your DPS cooldowns for the moment after Fungistorm where he takes increased damage.

Dastardly Rootstalks

In Dastardly Rootstalks you will be posing as the heel for the arena.

To start the delve you will first need to put on a mask, and then defeat six Fan Favourites which are Fungarian. They have a frontal cone ability which should be side stepped, but are quite easy to take down. You also need to punt eight friendly smaller fungarians by clicking on them.

The next stage will give you an Angry Fans bar to fill up by taunting the audience. To taunt you use your extra action button while standing in one of the four spotlights that move around the room. A tip is to have a keybind for the extra action button. There will also be angry fans spawning in the arena which you can kill to fill the bar.

The next stage will be to dig up eight new fungarian competitors, by clicking on dirt piles around the center ring. You will generally need to defeat the competitors one by one, unless you use CC, as the opening dirt piles is a cast which gets interrupted when you are attacked.

The final stage is to defeat Boletus, which you do by just clicking on him. This summons the final boss.

Mycomight is the boss in the Dastardly Rootstalks variant of the Grudge Pit. It is a particularly tough encounter and extremely unforgiving.

  • Rancid Rain makes green circles spawn around all players. After a short duration they drop a puddle on the floor, which deals heavy damage over time if you stand in it.
  • The Fungal’s Fist is a frontal slam, where Mycomight spawns a circle with 5 projectiles around it. Being hit by the circle or any of the projectiles will do heavy damage and stun you for 3 seconds.
  • Fling chair is a short cast where Mycomight throws a chair at you. Getting hit causes a small knockback and disorientates the player for a few seconds.

Dealing with Mycomight can be difficult on higher difficulties. We recommend keeping him near the center of the arena and moving towards the edge whenever you are targeted by Rancid Rain to keep the center clear. This gives you the most space to maneuver, when moving from his other two abilities. Overexaggerate movement when avoiding The Fungal’s Fist ability as the projectiles hit boxes are much bigger than they look.

Getting hit by either the Fling Chair or The Fungal’s Fist usually results in a death, so make sure you watch your feet.
