With Horrific Visions releasing on May 20th / 21st, you probably want to progress as quickly as possible, and start earning currency towards major unlocks, and powerful enchants. In this guide we have outlined the best way to start off as soon as Horrific Visions are available.
Week 1
Gaining Your First Mask
In the first week of visions your first main goal is to try and complete all objectives within a single Horrific Vision. This will give you your first mask: Faceless Mask of the Long Night. Although this is one of the hardest Faceless Masks to use, it is the only one you can unlock at the start.
Note: Activating a mask makes the vision harder, but makes you earn more Displaced Corrupted Mementos. You can activate up to 8 masks at the same time, with all of their negative effects being active at the same throughout the Horrific Vision.
Unlocking Additional Masks
Once you have unlocked the Long Night mask, you will want to complete a Horrific Vision with the mask activated. Depending on which version of Horrific Visions is active, Orgimmar or Stormwind, you should prioritize a specific area of the map.
- In Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar you should complete the Valley of Wisdom area and then defeat Thrall, which will unlock the Faceless Mask of the Burned Bridge. This is one of the easiest masks to handle, and that’s why you want to obtain it as soon as possible.
- In Horrific Vision of Stormwind you should prioritize clearing the Mage District. Completing this area with a mask active will unlock the Faceless Mask of Dark Imagination. Similar to the Burned Bridge, it’s one of the easiest masks to deal with.
Always make sure to kill Gamon or Hogger depending on which version of visions is active, as they drop half a mask. If you need more guidance on where to find them then check out our How to Unlock Faceless Masks guide.
Once you have an easier mask unlocked you want to activate that mask and do visions. Aim to complete as many areas as possible, prioritising whichever areas you didn’t complete yet. You should aim to get all the masks available in the currently active vision on the first week.
Once you obtain other easier masks, you can try to have two or more masks active at the same time, however, this will be really hard the first week. If you want to try several masks this is the order we suggest activating the masks based on the following ranking.
Horrific Vision Masks ranked from easiest to hardest:
- Burned Bridge
- Dark Imagination
- Nemesis
- Vengeance
- Daredevil
- Long Night
- Pained
- Multitudes.
The final objective regarding masks in the first week is to complete a full Horrific Vision with 3 masks, which unlocks the Multitudes mask. However, with the cap on how far you can progress through the Hourglass of Horrific Visions, this will be very difficult.
Unlocking Helmet Enchants
At the same time as you obtain masks, we recommend progressing towards unlocking the helmet enchants. This is done by completing the quest Borrowing Corruption while you are in the visions. The quest is to collect 8 Black Blood Residue, which you obtain from clearing areas. Completing this quest unlocks the lesser variants of the helmet enchants.
The Borrowing Corruption quest is picked up from Augmeru, who is located in Dornogal near the Horrific Vision hub and upgrade Hourglass of Horrific Visions.

Once you have completed the Borrowing Corruption quest, Augmeru will have the follow up quest Enhancing Corruption. To do this quest complete the more difficult Lost Areas, as they reward you Black Blood Coagulate. You need to collect 8 coagulate to complete the quest and unlock the greater variant of the corruption helmet enchants.
Week 2
For the second week of visions we recommend prioritizing unlocking the 2nd half of the Faceless Mask of the Nemesis. Then, unlock the final masks so you have access to all 8 faceless masks.
We then suggest you start applying as many masks as you find comfortable in the same order as mentioned in the section above. Whilst doing this, finish filling out the Hourglass of Horrific Visions until you have completed what is available for this week.
Week 3 and onwards
In week 3 and onwards, the whole of the Hourglass of Horrific Visions will be available to be filled out. Continue progressing towards 8 mask runs, if you are not there yet, to earn the maximum amount of Displaced Corrupted Mementos as possible.
Summary
Week 1: Complete a vision with all areas, then use that mask to unlock more masks and unlock the corruption helmet enchants.
Week 2: Unlock the remaining masks from the other Horrific Vision, activate as many masks as you can to earn as many Displaced Corrupted Mementos as possible.
Week 3: Continue working towards 8 mask runs to earn the maximum amount of Displaced Corrupted Mementos.
