Talent Builds

This section covers recommended Devourer Demon Hunter talent builds for raids and Mythic+.

For the most part, the single target and Mythic+ builds perform similarly, with minor differences in playstyle and damage profiles. The differences are covered in more detail in the Playstyle section of the guide.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZMzMzYmFzYsolNmZmZ2abmZGADDABmZGMmB

This is the highest simming single target build for Devourer.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZMzMDzsYGjNtsBgAAMjZmZZmZa2mZbmZwYGA

This build is very similar to the Annihilator single target build, and is very close in damage.

I recommend testing out both Annihilator and Void-Scarred to see which you prefer the most.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZmZmZGzsYGjFtsxMzMzWbzMzAYYAIwMGMmB

Void-Scarred and Annihilator perform quite evenly in M+, with Annihilator being a bit ahead.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMMzMjZmZmZmtZGjNttBgAGgZMzMLzMTz2MbzMMjZA

This build doesn’t put points in Collapsing Star and Apex Talents, and focuses solely on Voidsurge and Cull / Burning Blades damage.

Soul Glutton is chosen over Emptiness for this build, and can be more suited for certain encounters if the Void Metamorphosis timings line up better.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZmZmZYmFzYsplNAEAgZMzMLzMTz2MbzYwYGA

This is essentially the single target build, but removing Devourer’s Bite for Eradicate. I recommend this build for any cleave encounter.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZmZmZGzsYGjFtsxMzMzWbzMzAYYAIwMGMmB

As with the Void-Scarred Cleave build, this build also only replaces Devourer's Bite with Eradicate. I recommend this build for any cleave encounter.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZmZmZGzsYGjNtsBgAAMMzMLzMTz2MbzYwYGA

Void-Scarred and Annihilator perform quite evenly in M+, with Annihilator being a bit ahead. Void-Scarred still performs really well, and as its damage isn’t as tied to Void Metamorphosis it might feel more comfortable in the early season.

CgcBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMmZmZmZmxwMAAAAAAAegxsNYGAAAAAAAAmxMMmZmZmZmZGzsZGjFtsxMzMzWLzMzAYYAIwMGMmB

This is mostly the same build as the Mythic+ builds, but it uses Soul Glutton over Emptiness, allowing more uses of Void Metamorphosis.

Class Talents

New talents, Furious, Remorseless and Final Breath are all damage increases, so they are always taken.

Soul Splitter increases souls generation, which directly increases Devourer’s damage output.

Guile increases the maximum range of Voidblade, Disrupt and Consume Magic by 20 yards. This gives Voidblade 35 yards range, making it useful as a gap-closer if playing a talent build that doesn’t use Voidblade rotationally.

Demon Muzzle provides a magic damage reduction after interrupting an ability with Disrupt. This talent is a powerful defensive tool in Mythic+.

Burn It Out and Soul Cleanse give Demon Hunters the option to remove Curse or Disease effects from themselves with Soul Immolation (Devourer) and Immolation Aura (Havoc/Vengeance).

Demon Hunter has received three new capstone talents!

Demonic Resilience grants a second Blur charge. Out of the three capstone talents, this one stands out as the obvious choice.

Wings Of Wrath increases glide speed by 10%, which isn’t very useful in most situations.

Between Long Night and Pitch Black, the obvious choice is Pitch Black, reducing Darkness cooldown from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. While this can be a useful talent, especially in raids, it isn’t a must-have in all situations.

Spec Talents

Void Ray is your main Fury spender, and a great soul generator. It’s usable at 100 Fury outside Void Metamorphosis, and has no cooldown. It doesn’t have a Fury cost inside Void Metamorphosis, but receives a short cooldown. When channeling Void Ray inside Void Metamorphosis, Fury drain is reduced.

Soul Immolation generates Fury and souls, however it only deals damage to yourself.

Tempered Soul and Spontaneous Immolation share a choice node. In most situations Spontaneous Immolation is the stronger option, making Soul Immolation a random passive proc instead of having to manually cast it, essentially saving a global. Tempered Soul can be useful in situations where you want to remove Disease or Curse effects from yourself.

Void Metamorphosis is Devourer’s main cooldown ability, and becomes available after collecting 50 souls. It empowers Reap to become Cull, and Consume to become Devour. Void Metamorphosis passively drains Fury, ending when it reaches 0.

Collapsing Star is one of the core talents in the Devourer tree, it’s only castable inside Void Metamorphosis, costing 30 souls. It has a long cast time, but Fury drain is reduced drastically during the cast. It deals massive damage and generates souls.

Feast Of Souls grants a stacking 1% damage increase for 10 seconds per soul collected, stacking up to 20 times.

Soul Glutton reduces the souls cost of Void Metamorphosis from 50 down to 35, at the cost of the Fury draining 25% faster inside it. As a result, your Void Metamorphosis windows are shorter, but effectively reducing the cooldown by 30%.

Emptiness keeps the souls cost for Void Metamorphosis at 50, but grants a ramping Haste bonus inside it. Haste, along with Mastery are Devourer’s preferred secondary stats, making Emptiness a powerful talent choice.

Eradicate turns Reap into an AoE frontal, and stands for a massive portion of Devourer’s multi target damage output.

The Hunt is the same ability that we’ve become used to since Shadowlands. The talent offers good value in Void-Scarred builds, since it provides more Demonsurge procs.

Hungering Slash allows Devourer to play what’s often referred to as a hybrid build, due to it combining both ranged casting, and melee-range ability combinations. After casting The Hunt or Voidblade, they become Hungering Slash for a short amount of time, slashing nearby enemies, generating Fury and shattering up to 2 Soul Fragments from nearby enemies. It also grants a temporary charge of Vengeful Retreat, and increases its damage significantly.

Rolling Torment grants Fury and a damage increase, based on how many unused souls are stored when leaving Void Metamorphosis. With this talent, not being able to get a final cast of Collapsing Star off doesn’t feel as bad, due to getting a damage boost and access to Void Ray quicker. Keep in mind, Rolling Torment only counts the souls if Collapsing Star is also talented, making it useless in builds that don’t play Collapsing Star.

Devourer's Bite makes Voidblade and The Hunt increase your damage to affected targets by 12% for each stack. The talent is very strong, especially for Void-Scarred, where the cooldowns of Voidblade and The Hunt are reset upon entering Void Metamorphosis, allowing multiple applications of the debuff.

Apex Talents

Devourer’s Apex Talents is called Midnight. It boosts the specs damage heavily, providing a flat Cosmic damage increase, as well as granting additional bonuses to Collapsing Star.

The first rank makes Collapsing Star always critically strike, while the second rank increases its critical strike damage.

The third rank gives instant access to Collapsing Star, and generates 5 souls upon entering Void Metamorphosis.

Hero Talents

Currently, both hero trees are close in performance, but their damage profiles and playstyle vary slightly.

Void-Scarred

Void-Scarred is more or less the same as Fel-Scarred for Havoc. In addition to empowering Reap and Consume, Void Metamorphosis now empowers Voidblade (Pierce The Veil), Hungering Slash (Reaper's Toll) and The Hunt (Predator's Wake).

The first cast of each empowered ability induces a Voidsurge (does not apply to Cull and Devour), causing an explosion of Void energy around the Demon Hunter, dealing large amounts of Cosmic damage.

Void-Scarred grants damage bonuses outside Void Metamorphosis, and as such, the tree deals more damage while not in cooldowns. The spec focuses on ramping up Burning Blades with Reap / Cull, and lining up big damage events, such as Collapsing Star, in Student Of Suffering windows.

Annihilator

Annihilator is the new Hero Talent introduced in Midnight.

The tree’s main priority is to trigger Voidfall whenever it’s ready.

When talented into Meteoric Fall, reaching 3 stacks of Voidfall causes the next Reap cast to consume all stacks to call down 3 Void Meteors. Consume has a 35% chance to grant a stack of Voidfall, and fully channeling Void Ray guarantees a stack.

Mass Acceleration resets the cooldown of Reap and grants 3 stacks of Voidfall, allowing Void Meteors to be called down instantly when entering Void Metamorphosis.

Annihilator has a flatter profile than Void-Scarred, but ramps heavily inside Void Metamorphosis, focusing on triggering Void Meteors and casting Collapsing Star as often as possible.
