Openers

Devourer doesn’t have a set opener due to not being able to cast Void Metamorphosis instantly. However, I’ve provided examples of how an opener can look like in the beginning of an encounter.

Annihilator:

  1. Cast Consume until 100 Fury or 3 stacks of Voidfall
  2. Reap at 3 stacks of Voidfall
  3. Void Ray
  4. Reap at 3 stacks of Voidfall, or if it gives enough souls for Void Metamorphosis
  5. Void Metamorphosis
  6. Void Ray
  7. Reap
  8. Collapsing Star

Void-Scarred:

  1. The Hunt
  2. Hungering Slash
  3. Vengeful Retreat
  4. Voidblade
  5. Hungering Slash
  6. Vengeful Retreat
  7. Consume until you reach 100 Fury
  8. Void Ray
  9. Reap if it gives enough souls for Void Metamorphosis
  10. Void Metamorphosis
  11. Void Ray
  12. Predator's Wake
  13. Reaper's Toll
  14. Vengeful Retreat
  15. Pierce The Veil
  16. Reaper's Toll
  17. Vengeful Retreat

Core Gameplay

Soul Fragments are a core part of Devourer’s gameplay loop, they generate Fury, increase damage done, and grant access to Void Metamorphosis.

Consume generates Fury and Soul Fragments, and can be cast while moving.

The general gameplay loop outside Void Metamorphosis revolves around generating Fury and souls with Consume, and then spend Fury on Void Ray. Hungering Slash is another tool for generating resources, but currently only gets picked for Void-Scarred builds.

Inside Void Metamorphosis the goal is to keep generating Fury, while getting off as many Collapsing Star, and empowered ability casts off as possible. Void Ray should be pressed on cooldown, if possible.

Reap / Cull

Due to current tuning, Devourer rarely ever wants to cast Reap and the empowered version Cull. However, if talented into Eradicate, you will always cast Eradicate in multi target situations when available.

Annihilator

Press Reap or Cull with 3 stacks of Voidfall, to call down Void Meteors.

Press Reap if it gives enough souls to cast Void Metamorphosis next.

Void-Scarred

Press Reap if it gives enough souls to cast Void Metamorphosis next.

Defensives

Devourer has solid survivability with two Blur charges, passive self-healing with Soul Rending and consuming souls, and passive magic damage reduction in Demonic Wards.

Demon Hunters have access to Darkness, which historically isn’t the best raid defensive cooldown due to the RNG nature of it. However, with Midnight introducing more rot damage encounters than what we’ve seen in recent times, Darkness becomes slightly stronger, as the likelihood of it proccing is higher when there’s more damage events happening.
